She left her books, her car, her clothes, and a note
But all she wrote was, "Tonight I'm leaving on a train."
She says she's headed west
To make it right for one more night
And, well, I don't blame her if she is
But he thinks it's just one more sunset
And after all, it's her fault
If she hasn't caught on yet
So why'd you have to go?
Is there something I could say
To make you turn around?
'Cause nights like these
I wish I'd said don't go
Is there anybody there?
Can anybody help to get me out of here?
'Cause you're walking down a road that I can't go
She says she's headed west
To make it right for one more night
And, well, I don't blame her if she is
But he thinks it's just one more sunset
And after all, it's her fault
If she hasn't caught on yet
So why'd you have to go?
Is there something I could say
To make you turn around?
'Cause nights like these
I wish I'd said don't go
Is there anybody there?
Can anybody help to get me out of here?
'Cause you're walking down a road that I can't go
Try as I might
I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along
Oh my God, I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along
And she sings, "You'll be my tourniquet,"
As the record on my stereo plays
Her favorite song for two whole days
And the track stretched out for miles and miles
And what she'd give for one more smile
And how she hoped he missed her
'Cause, God, she missed how he would kiss her
So why'd you have to go?
Is there something I could say
To make you turn around?
'Cause nights like these
I wish I'd said don't go
Is there anybody there?
Can anybody help to get me out of here?
'Cause you're walking down a road that I can't go
So why'd you have to go?
Is there something I could say
To make you turn around?

"...she never should have kissed you..." is all I can really understand.
And it would make the song make more sense.
AH that makes sense too. i was seeing it as the guy she is leaving had promised to stop all the pain and bleeding in her life, so he was her tourniquet.
But that makes sense too, because the guy she left him for seems like a great idea at the time & its all she wants; but they both know its just a temporary fix, and it won't last.
What "And she sings, "You'll be my tourniquet,"" means is that the guy will be a temporary relief to her, but not what she really needs in the long-run.
Now I can't hold on I wish I never met you now she's gone I never should've kissed you now she's gone I'm thinking that I miss you
Any thoughts on how it changes the song?
But all she wrote was, "Tonight I'm leaving on a train."
She says she's headed west
To make it right for one more night
And, well, I don't blame her if she is"
Clearly, about the guy reading the note.
"But he thinks it's just one more sunset
And after all, it's her fault
If she hasn't caught on yet"
This could be interpreted in two ways. He's talking about himself, and how he believes once she is there she will be right back. Or it could mean the girl is going back to an ex-boyfriend, and the guy will have fun with her for a while, and then will throw her away once again.
"Try as I might
I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along
Oh my God, I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along"
The most important part in this verse is the mention of the drunken kiss. Which can make the next verse be interpreted into two ways.
"And she sings, "You'll be my tourniquet,"
As the record on my stereo plays
Her favorite song for two whole days
And the track stretched out for miles and miles
And what she'd give for one more smile
And how she hoped he missed her
'Cause, God, she missed how he would kiss her"
One interpretation of this verse is, at the same exact time, both of them are missing each other at the same time. He's listening to her favorite song thinking about her, and she is thinking about the "drunken kiss" they had with each other. Or it could just be the guy is missing the girl, and the girl is thinking about the guy she is going back to in the west.
All of this is up to the listener, I personally feel from the lines of the chorus is that the song is about the girl running back to some scumbag guy, and he will have a one night stand with her and that will be that. Through her mistake though, the guy back home is also through with her. He may have been by her side, secretly in love with her, and gave her the best advice he could but ultimately failed. So he is moving on. Hence the line "You're walking down a road that I can't go".
i'd do whole car trips just listening to this song over and over.
love it <3
"She left her books, her car, her clothes, and a note
But all she wrote was, "Tonight I'm leaving on a train."
She says she's headed west To make it right for one more night
And, well, I don't blame her if she is"
- he understands that she has to leave/go back. maybe she ran away from home or left on bad terms, so she feels the need to 'make things right, for one more night'. perhaps when she left, she had a boyfriend and didn't keep in contact with him, but she's maybe going back to be with him again?
But he thinks it's just one more sunset And after all, it's her fault If she hasn't caught on yet
- he thinks its no big deal, its just another day, and she's just another girl. and its her fault anyway, if she can't see that he's really in love with her.
So why'd you have to go? Is there something I could say To make you turn around? 'Cause nights like these I wish I'd said "don't go"
- he wonders if she would've stayed if he had set his pride aside, admitted that he loved her, and asked her to stay for him
Is there anybody there?
Can anybody help to get me out of here?
'Cause you're walking down a road that I can't go
- maybe he's either asking if anyone can help him get over her, or more literally if someone can help him get out of that area. perhaps he wants to leave because she did, and everything there is just a constant reminder of her.
Try as I might, I just can't handle this. I lost myself inside a drunken kiss. And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home. Save a sad song for the sing-along
- self explanatory. they were both drunk, he just wanted to walk her home so he knew she'd be okay, and they ended up kissing.
And she sings, "You'll be my tourniquet,"
As the record on my stereo plays
Her favorite song for two whole days
And the track stretched out for miles and miles
- my favorite part, its perfect. pretty self explanatory. a tourniquet is a wrap used to stop someone from bleeding out. its considered a last resort, because its kind of dangerous to cut off the blood flow to a limb. the limb tissue could 'die' and have to be amputated if the person helping doesn't loosen the tourniquet every now and then so that the tissue can get oxygen from blood being circulated.
And what she'd give for one more smile
And how she hoped he missed her
'Cause, God, she missed how he would kiss her
- also self explanatory, i think.
i love this song so much :)
She left her books, her car, her clothes, and a note
But all she wrote was, "Tonight I'm leaving on a train."
She says she's headed west
To make it right for one more night
And, well, I don't blame her if she is
I think of that as they are still togehter, maybe not (not quite sure), but one day she just up and dissapears, leaving nothing to say where she went but a note. She's headed west to fix things, NOT WITH SOMEONE, but just with her life in general. Maybe she was happier out there, or experienced something out there that she wanted to go back and remember.
But he thinks it's just one more sunset
And after all, it's her fault
If she hasn't caught on yet
I feel like when he's singing, when he says both "He" and "I" and "my", they are the same person. I feel like this is saying that when she left, he didn't think it was a big deal, just a stage or just "one more sunset."
So why'd you have to go?
Is there something I could say
To make you turn around?
'Cause nights like these
I wish I'd said don't go
Is there anybody there?
Can anybody help to get me out of here?
'Cause you're walking down a road that I can't go
Pretty much just saying "why did youleave?" because he wants to be with her but she needs to go on/move on. "Walking down a road that i cant go" like she left for the westside, he cant go with her.
Try as I might
I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along
Oh my God, I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along
I'm not quite sure how the drunken kiss thing would fit, maybe thats how they met (as someone up above said)) but i feel like the walk u home save the sad song part is saying like he just wanted things to be simple, not a sadm break up story.
And she sings, "You'll be my tourniquet,"
As the record on my stereo plays
Her favorite song for two whole days
And the track stretched out for miles and miles
And what she'd give for one more smile
And how she hoped he missed her
'Cause, God, she missed how he would kiss her
Note: the lyrics are actually "As the record on the stereo plays, her facorite song for two whole days" This is definetly my favorite part of the song. I feel as though its saying that she still loves him, she just needs to be away from him, take some time to find herself. whereever she is, how ever far awway from him, she still misses him and misses being together. she listens to her song to remember of him, and misses how he would kiss her
for me pretty much all of mayday parade;s songs seem very relateable to real life, but this one protrays a break up extremely well
Sad :(
But all she wrote was, "Tonight I'm leaving on a train."
She says she's headed west
To make it right for one more night
And, well, I don't blame her if she is
But he thinks it's just one more sunset
And after all, it's her fault
If she hasn't caught on yet"
I think this means that she, obviously, left him and went to go see another guy that she is still in love with. The guy and her ended on a bad note and she wants to get him back. And the person telling the story is saying that he doesn't blame her that she wants to make it right, BUT the person telling the story knows the the guy she's in love with is using her for sex. And that it's obvious that the guy is using her, but she's so "in love" that she isn't noticing it.
"So why'd you have to go?
Is there something I could say
To make you turn around?
'Cause nights like these
I wish I'd said don't go
Is there anybody there?
Can anybody help to get me out of here?
'Cause you're walking down a road that I can't go"
He's basically saying, "Why did you have to go? You could've stayed; I would've treated you better than he treats you. I'm lonely without you." But then he says "I need to get out of here, I can't be here if you come back. You'll treat me like second best when he's number one."
"Try as I might
I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along
Oh my God, I just can't handle this
I lost myself inside a drunken kiss
And I, all that I wanted was to walk you home
Save a sad song for the sing-along"
"I lost myself inside a drunken kiss" is saying that she was drunk trying to get over her ex when she met him and she kissed him and he got caught up in it to where they formed a relationship.
"All that I wanted was to walk you home" is saying that if he had just walked her home instead of asking her out, he would have never had gotten hurt.
And she sings, "You'll be my tourniquet,"
As the record on my stereo plays
Her favorite song for two whole days
And the track stretched out for miles and miles
And what she'd give for one more smile
And how she hoped he missed her
'Cause, God, she missed how he would kiss her
"You'll be my tourniquet" is saying that when she comes home, he'll be there to clean her up and heal her.
"As the record on my stereo plays her favorite song for two whole days" is saying that he missed her, but he wouldn't be there when she came home.
"And the track stretched out for miles and miles" meaning the train track went on forever.
"And what she'd give for one more smile. And how she hoped he missed her, cause, God, she missed how he would kiss her" is, obviously, saying that she hoped the boy she fell in love with would smile when her saw her and he would kiss her cause he missed her.
Wow, that was incredibly long.
