Jessie says she's been here for a thousand days
A thousand days to her
That just don't mean a thing
'Cause the city makes a perfect place to sleep

And daddy's coming home
He said he brought her things
Like jewels from every coast
And songs for them to sing
But singing never got her very far
And this old coast is full
Of pin-up paper rockstars

She said she'll run
Until her feet don't touch the ground
And as the waves carry me out
Well, keep listening
She'll never make a sound
So keep it coming and the details quiet
She's like a ghost that keeps you up all night
And she'll be a secret you can keep
Keep me

Cuts on paper hearts
They can be awful deep
Rips from wear and tear
On different city streets
They don't all need a home
But just a place to sleep

So I will run
Until my feet don't touch the ground
And as the waves carry me out
Well, keep listening
She'll never make a sound
So keep it coming and the details quiet
She's like a ghost that keeps you up all night
And she'll be a secret you can keep
Keep me
Keep me

And still she finds
That every time she runs
She leaves behind
Another piece of her
On every city street

So I will run
Until my feet don't touch the ground
As the waves carry me out
Keep listening

So I will run
Until my feet don't touch the ground
And as the waves carry me out
Well, keep listening
She'll never make a sound
So keep it coming and the details quiet
She's like a ghost that keeps you up all night
And she'll be a secret you can keep
Keep me
Keep me

So keep it coming and the details quiet
She's like a ghost that keeps you up all night
And she'll be a secret you can keep
Keep me
Keep me

General Comment:I think this song is about a girl who had a seemingly perfect life, but in all reality it was pretty messed up. She was spoiled by her parents, but they weren't ever there. They were just trying to buy her love and now that she's trying to get away from her old life she just can't. Every time she runs she loses a part of herself, but not what she wants to lose. Her old life just keeps haunting her.

    "She said she'll run
Until her feet don't touch the ground
And as the waves carry me out
    Well, keep listening
    She'll never make a sound"

I think this lyric is about her just trying her hardest to get away until she dies and if someone tries to stop her she'll just ignore it and go on. She wants everything to just go away and be able to restart. Basically just her wanting to get away from everything and everybody. She just wants everything to go away. Originally when I heard this song it reminded me of someone taking their life.

Song Meaning:Jessi grew up in this town, her dad was never home but when he did come home he would bring her things to make up for not being there. He always wanted her to be a singer but she didn't want to be a singer because the coast was full of singers, and she wanted to be unique. She gets sick of it and moves out on her own, but soon falls into poverty and doesn't want to go to her dad for help so she is forced to sell herself into prostitution and travel from place to place. Jessi hates her job, she feels like she's leaving a piece of herself behind everywhere she goes. The end :D

General Comment:I personally think that this song is about a girl who grew up with her father not really around a lot at first so she realizes that he really is just trying to buy her love back. Then maybe she gets upset and has to leave. But this time she's met someone special, but because of her father maybe she's scared and runs although all she really wants is someone to want her and be there for her and finding that scares her. Then the boy feels he should run as well.

This is probably not what it was meant to be lol, but to me it personally makes a ton of sense because I've been in that situation and that's how I felt. So I ran.

General Comment:I love this song a lot.

I think it's a girl who wants to just escape. Escape from everything. She wants to run away from everything she knows because she's sick of it. She's spolied and she gets everything.

    I think when it says
"And as the waves carry me out
    Keep listening
    She'll never make a sound"
It's like, she'll get so far away and never have any regrets.

    I really love this song.
