I dream of you draped in wires and leaning on the brakes
As I lead you with restless liars and dealers on the take
And I can read you like a gumshoe; watch this meeting hall sweat and shake

I'll take you on
I'll take you on
I'll take you on
I'll take you all on

I'll take you on
Oh, I'll take you on
I'll take you on
I'll take you on

I haven't struck you with desire, fault line, no crutch, no stall
And I can bind you with no ties or leash and watch you fall

See, I got this soul
It's all fired up
This soul, I got this soul
It's all fired up
This soul - it's all fired up
It's all fired up
It's all fired up
It's all fired up

I teach you of Death's desires reflected in lakes
As I lead you in a fearful file to a precipice of fate
And I welcome you, I welcome your sweethearts that bleed and break

I'll take you on
I'll take you on
I'll take you on
I'll take you all on
I'll take you on when your, your will is gone
I'll take you on
I'll take you on

I haven't struck you with desire, fault line, no crutch, no stall
And I can bind you with no ties or lease time and watch you fall

See, I've got this soul
It's all fired up
This soul
I've got this soul
It's all fired up
This soul
It's all fired up
It's all fired up
It's all fired up
It's all fired up
You're all mine

You're all mine
You're all mine
You're all mine
You're all mine
You're all mine

Song Meaning:I definitely think this is from the perspective of Satan, which I think is being used to explore the dark side of human nature in regards to destructive desire.

I dream of you draped in wires and leaning on the brakes
    - This is about someone heading fast towards destruction; Satan dreams of people in this situation because according to the Bible he is bitter about his own future destruction & wants to take as many down with him as he can.

As I lead you with restless liars and dealers on the take
    - Being led with other sinners to permanent death

-And I can read you like a gumshoe; watch this meeting hall sweat and shake
He reads people by studying their outward behaviors because he cannot read their minds (Biblical reference again - only God can read minds), and he sees people even in a church (meeting hall) "sweating & shaking" over their own sinful nature, meaning they are able to be corrupted also

I haven't struck you with desire, fault line, no crutch, no stall
    - The Bible says man is drawn out by his own desires, his own sin, so Satan doesn't have to strike them with that..... just play on the sinful nature that exists

And I can bind you with no ties or leash and watch you fall
    - He doesn't have to trap anyone or force them into anything, but simply watch them fall by tempting desire they willingly follow

    See, I got this soul
    It's all fired up
    - He's fired up with anger to destroy people while he still has life (a soul)

I teach you of Death's desires reflected in lakes
    - The Lake of Fire in the Bible is the 2nd death, or permanent destruction from which there is no hope of future life. This is where Satan is said to be permanently destroyed eventually, and anyone who is judged as a goat will be destroyed with him.

As I lead you in a fearful file to a precipice of fate
    - In the Bible, when Jesus exorcised demons from a person they went into nearby sheep which them drove themselves off a cliff to death. I think this is an idea of sheep-like people (generally good people) being "possessed" by Satan and then judged by Christ, thus leading to their destruction. Again, it's about Satan corrupting "good" people.

I'll take you on when your, your will is gone
    - The describes Satan as waiting for opportune times to tempt people, namely when they are "weak"

Now that the literal interpretation is clear, with its many Biblical allusions, I believe this is also a metaphor for human nature & perhaps romantic & sexual love. I think he is comparing himself to Satan in the way that he may seduce a woman, draw out her own desires, and the destruction is through romantic/sexual love (gone wrong of course). And he does it because he's filled with his own passion & knows it will destroy him also, so he has no mercy or pity in his seductions.

General Comment:This is about the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
He made a huge impact on the World.
His death has effected today's society.
Regardless if we wish to not accept this or not.
He taught us of death's desire (To live in after life).
Nobody wants to just die and not live in an afterlife.
He took us all on, after his crucifixion.
His mysterious "resurrection" binded us down to this story.
It's well alive today like a virus.
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Forever behind our minds. He fired up our souls.

General Comment:Paul is obsessed with criminology and the minds of the people behind crimes. With that being said, this song has the ability to be viewed from the point of view of a rapist. He takes a young victim (probably female) and the song could be a narrative of what's happening:

"I dream of you draped in wires
    And leaning on the brakes"
The victim's in the rapist's car.

"As I lead you with restless liars
    And dealers on the take"
The rapist is buying drugs from 'dealers' and 'liars'.

"And I can read you like a gumshoe
Watch this meeting hall sweat and shake"
The rapist can read the victim's actions and feelings, like a 'gumshoe' would.

    "I'll take you on
    I'll take you on
    I'll take you on
    I'll take you all on
    I'll take you on
    Oh, I'll take you on
    I'll take you on
    I'll take you on"
The rapist will rape the victim, and take the people coming after him (cops, investigators, etc.) on.

"I am astride you with desire
The fault line, no crutch, no stall
And I can bind you with no ties
    Release, and watch you fall"
What the rapist is feeling, or thinking, while violating the victim.

    "See I got this soul
    It's all fired up
This soul, I got this soul
    It's all fired up
This soul, it's all fired up
    It's all fired up
    It's all fired up
    It's all fired up"
The rapist's soul is fired up. This could have two meanings; the rapist is turned on, or the rapist is high.

"I teach you of death's desires
    Reflected in lakes
As I lead you in a fearful file to a precipice of fate"
The rapist is about to kill the victim, probably by throwing her (or him.) into a lake, or another body of water.

    "And I welcome you
    I welcome your sweet hearts
    That bleed and break"
I'm clueless about this one; it could either be the rapist is remembering the events, or he's welcoming the people (cops, investigators, etc.).

    "I'll take you on
    I'll take you on
    I'll take you on
    I'll take you all on
    I'll take you on
When your, your will is gone
    I'll take you on
    I'll take you on"
    Same as I described before.

"I am astride you with desire
The fault line, no crutch, no stall
I can bind you with no ties
Release time and watch you fall"
    Same as I described before.

    "See, I got this soul
    It's all fired up
This soul, I got this soul,
It's all fired up, this soul
    It's all fired up
    It's all fired up
    It's all fired up
    It's all fired up
    You're all mine
    You're all mine
    You're all mine
    You're all mine
    You're all mine
    You're all mine"
Same as I described before, and the "You're all mine" could mean that the victim belongs to the rapist, having taken the victim's life.

My Interpretation:another one of interpols views on satan or as i understand it, singing from the shoes of satan: let me explain...

I dream of you draped in wires And leaning on the brake
    he's picturing your death
As Ihe leads you with all the restless liars And dealers on the take down to hell
while Watching this meeting hall (church) sweat and shake

he'll take you on, he'll take us all on

I am astride you with desire The fault line, no crutch, no stall And I can bind you with no ties
    Release, and watch you fall
He is besides us though out our temptations and sins, he binds us to desire without physical ties, releases us to our own doings and watches us fall.

because he's got this soul that's all fired up

I teach you of death's desires Reflected in lakes As I lead you in a fearful file to a precipice of fate
he teaches us the deadly sins that reflect in the lakes of hell and leads us down a road to break down and dissipate our faith.

And I welcome you I welcome your sweet hearts That bleed and break
    he invites everyone of us.

You're all mine - he's elated to have our souls. mine and yours.

now i'm not a religious man but i grew up catholic/christian and this song is clearing a war chant for the devil. dark, beautiful and corrupt. i love it. M

General Comment:I get a completely different idea from the naive female figure within the song. Btw I'd like to mention that this song is very distinguished from all of interpol's songs. Instead of their long melodious parts they have short and sharp fragments. It's spectacular.

Ok, so here's my interpretation: Instead of a naive person I believe it's a prostitute. "dealers on the take" reminds me of drug dealers betting on these prostitutes. "You're all mine" since when was a prostitute anyone else's but yours when you've paid a fee.

I keep thinking of a masochistic kinky scenario where he's paid this prostitute to dress up "draped in wires" but he can't bind her up with ties or a leash, 'cause I gather that prostitutes have conditions when it comes to their job, maybe this one doesn't want to be tied up or on a leash.

So when he has her where he want her. He gets "all fired up". "i am astride with with desire" his desire is this masochistic dream.

    Iunno about some the rest.
