[Noah:] Mine I want.

I caught you when your line got disconnected trouble.
Respect the hive, it seems like days since you ejected.
Your mom and I will help you dance through your bad weather.
Young love is fine, just please respect the candles as they line.

Now Son!
[Noah:] I won't waste time, I won't waste mine

I know there will be times, you wonder why it can't stay simple
Your mom and I.
To pet your head and dress your lettuce.
Don't work all night and split your hair and sleep on numbers.
Young love is bright.
Just please respect the candles in a line.

Now Son!

General Comment:The distortion of the main vocals really adds to this song, seeing as it's supposed to be from a dad's perspective. It's supposed to sound like a "dad's" voice, exaggerated obviously, but I definitely think it was intentional.

I love how the slowness of the vocals helps break down the repetitive beat in the background as well. makes for an actually relaxing song, which is kind of contrary to what you expect at the beginning

General Comment:Sounds like a father telling a young son some advice and words of support?

"I caught you . . . diconnected trouble" = I've helped you through hard times
"Respect the hive" = respect your family (family is everything)
"seems like days since you ejected" = seems like forever since you were born
"Your mom and I . . . bad weather" = your mom and I will always be here for you
"Young love is fine" = live up your childhood and do what's fun
"Please respect the candles as they line" = but don't lose sight of who you are

"I know there will be time . . . dress your lettuce" = life will get hard and you'll want to go back to the simpler times,
"Don't work all night . . . and sleep on numbers" = but don't get too stressed out. Slow down sometimes. If you're tired and you have some work you feel you should do, maybe you should just get some rest and calm down and get back to it the next day. Just don't let your life be run over by work
"Young love is bright" = doing what you want will make you happiest
"Please respect the candles as they line" = but, again, don't lose sight of who you are and what you want to do.

"Now son!" = now go forth into the world and remember my words

    Just my piece-by-piece interpretation.

General Comment:Definitely about a son leaving his parents house and trying things on his own. The only lyric I can't get is "please respect the candles in a line" -anybody know what this means?

General Comment:the EXACT lyrics, from the animal collective lyric book itself:

I caught you when your line got disconnected trouble. Respect the hive, it seems like days since you ejected. Your mom and I will dance you through your bad weather. Young love is fine, just please respect the candles as they line.

    Now son!

I know there will be times when you wish things could be so simple. Your mom and i. To pet your head and dress your lettuce. Dont work all night and split your hair and sleep on numbers. young love is bright. just please respect the candles in a line.

    Now son!

General Comment:I think this song is of cource, coming from a father. It's a message to their kid, who's most likely in adolesence or is a young adult. There is a miscommunication between the two, the kid wanting to break away from his/her overbearing parents.
"I caught you in you eye
    That disconnected trouble"
Maybe talking about how the kid feels like his/her parents can't relate to them, but the dad can see eye to eye?
    "Respect the hive
It seems like days since you rejected
    Your mom and I"
Respect your home, the kid cas completely turned away from his/her parents.
"We'll hope you dance to your bad weather
    Young love is fine
    Just please respect
    The candles as they lie"
We hope you learn from your mistakes. The 'young love is fine' is probably why the kid has turned away from the parents in the first place, the parents warning about young love, repect the boundries they've set for him/her. I suppose candles is some strange comparison to the rules, boundries. This is the grounds and you shouldn't cross them.
    "I know that we'll decide
You wonder why it can't stay simple
    Your mom and I
    To pet your head
    And dress your letters"
The parents and the kid are still trying to work out their relationship, and the kid is wondering why things are so much more difficult now, like sgr7447 said, is wondering why it isn't as easy as it was as a kid.
    "Don't worry about why
    And split your head
    And sleep unmolded"
Don't over think what's going on, this is the way things should be, don't be swayed by things.
    Young love is blind
Just please respect the candles in a line
Again the same. I think that maybe when they say, 'young love is blind' it might not mean a significant other, but could very well be the passion a young adult has, the philosphy and emotion of it all. Maybe it's a very strict, by the rules family, and the child is trying to branch out and be a free spirit, and this is a father's word of warning to that.

General Comment:"Just please respect the candles in a line"

It might mean, along with the young love line, to not step ahead of your age; to not skip birthdays (hence the candles) and try to act older than you are by supposedly falling in love.
