Lyrics for Bleeding the Orchid as interpreted by arpeggio

Bleeding the Orchid Lyrics
If life is my witness
Love is my song
If nothing means no one
Then blank, I belong
If fear conquers easy
I can lead on
Milk from the flower
Blood from the dawn
So here we are
Upon your stage
The laughs we shared
The dreams we saved

Bleeding the orchid
We're bleeding the orchid
Bleeding the orchid

Blessed my weakness
Blessed my wrongs
As hate forms the sequence
Of one by one
As freedoms die easy
With suffrage the want
There's clouds in my shower
Ghosts in my arms
Youth is where you are
Faith some sinner's child

We're bleeding the orchid
We're bleeding the orchid
Bleeding the orchid

Gilded art this silent march past triumph, thru alarm
So thus charmed
Does this will stand for much?
But hearts untouched, by hearts unloved

Bleeding the orchid
Bleeding the orchid
Here we are
Upon your stage
The love we share
The dreams we'll save
They're bleeding the orchid

I think its about the place of the band in the hearts of the fans. And the same attitude they have now, to the attitude they had 10 years ago.

"So here we are, upon your stage,
The lies we shared,
The dreams we saved."

As if to say, wev done it before

"Here we are,
Upon your stage
The love we share,
The dreams we’ll save."

As if to say, we are going to do it again. Im not realy sure, thats what i get out of it so far, its to early to say for sure though.

I agree with dougy, but I also think part of it is an inverse of that too, as in the fans in the band's heart:

"Do you miss where you were?
They shall seal your shout."
-As in, Billy missed being in his band, and the cheers and love from his fans "sealed his shout" to get the band back together.

"Guilty of this silent march,
There's triumph through love
So they’ll shout,
And all this will go on."
-The silent march could refer to his solo album, and the triumph through love could mean the triumphant return to rock as the Smashing Pumpkins. "So they'll shout/And all this will go on" once again refers to the cheers from the fans, and the Pumpkins will once again go on.

"We’ll have some trust,
We’ll have some youth."
-The trust is from their diehard fans who have been waiting for the reunited band to be back. The youth -- perhaps Ginger and Jeff, the new, young members of the band?

That's what I think of it so far.

its possible it can be a song to d'arcy and james
hes basically saying he missed what they used to be and he had the memories
he ends up sharing the dream/memories/love with new members and continuing with what was dear to him

this could be a political song calling for peace and love instead. or it could be about apathy and love overcoming that particular feeling. i'm not sure

So I googled what an orchid symbolizes and arrived at the following:

Orchid: A symbol of perfection. The spots on an orchid sometimes represent the blood of Christ.

I agree with supernuke. I think this is a political song against the war and the death of so many young people.."we'll have some trust, we'll have some youth"

Instead of:
Life is my weakness,
Love is my soul,
If nothing means no one,
Can play all alone.

I hear:
If life is my witness
Love is my soul,
If nothing means no one,
And blank Avalon

Instead of:
If fear comes easy,
I can lay down,
Milk from a flower,
Blood from a stone.

I hear:
If fear conquers easy,
I can lead on,
Milk from the flower,
Blood from a stone.

Instead of:
So here we are, upon your stage,
The lies we shared,
The dreams we saved.

I hear:
So here we are, upon your stage,
The laughs we shared,
The dreams we saved.

Instead of:
Blessed my weakness,
Blessed my wrongs,
As hate forms a sequence,
Of one by one.

I hear:
Listen audience,
Blessed my rose,
As hate forms a sequence,
Of one by one.

Instead of:
As freedom’s not easy,
There’s so much to want,
There’s clouds in my shower,
Ghosts in my home.

I hear:
As freedom’s die easy,
There’s so much to want,
There’s clouds in my shower,
Ghosts in my home.

Whoops............I mixed one up. It should have read:

Instead of:
Listen audience,
Blessed my rose,
As hate forms a sequence,
Of one by one.

I hear:
Blessed my weakness,
Blessed my wrongs,
As hate forms a sequence,
Of one by one.

im not sure but i think that the girl holding the wound on her chest has to do with the song (she might represent the orchid... which is bleeding)

MY FIRST POST EVER! Be easy on me.

I think that the beginning of the song is about BC and how he knows he's made mistakes and deserves no audience to his opinions, but that it's here if you want to hear it..

Then I think it gets political, about how America became the best country b/c it was formed as a country based on total freedoms and came out of suffering, but how one by one they're being taken away as suffering is gone and forgotten...

I'm starting to think that they should have named this album "Machina III/Zeitgeist." It has so many of the same themes of the machinas, which revolved around how BC perceived the way his fans and the media thought about him. Even though a lot of this whole album is supposed to be about the current political climate, I think theres just as much of that theme as there is the theme that threaded the machina albums (Machina I in particular).

Billy said in a recent interview that this song is meant to sound like alice in chains whom he greatly admired and its about the exploitation of grunge rock.

There are types of orchids that will take years to flower and cost thousands of dollars. I think it is Billy expressing how his fans only want him to play and write songs like he did in the 90s. His earlier music represents the orchid and Billy is bleeding and milking it ("Milk from the flower, blood from the dawn") for the fans but that music will never come back and he wants everyone to accept that and embrace his new music. It is a perfect theme for an album released after 7 years of inactivity.
