I think this song is a cry for help from the people the matter the most to the person singing the song. Like they are asking for suport from their famlie and friends.

I think this song is about lying to family members and friends.

When she went back asking for their forgiveness, they might have blamed every lie and thing that happened; on her.

So she acted like a child saying, "so what? i lied to me too." ...So basically she's being selfish and saying, oh it's no big deal I didn't just lie to you, I lied to myself also; that's what we should be worrying about.

I'm not sure. That's just what I think it means... :)

the songs about being in pain from a recent horrible break up.....and initially being in denial that your'e totally fine and that you don't need the support of your family and friends to get over it

you act all brave....and you rehearse how your'e going to act in front of the ones closest to you
....so they won't know that your really hurting........

but in the end you'll admit that you that you can't get over the heartbreak alone and that you really need their supppot of everyone you love.

i also think a little bit of the song is about how you can almost get over someone (without the support of anyone else) and then the next thing you know your back in pain ( step 1)

I agree with sunsetblvd that it's about the pain that arises from a break up. She probably tried to get through it herself, and then after "lying" about being okay, she finally goes to her family and friends for support.

this doesn't neccesarily have to be about a break-up (but it's a T&S song so it probably is. lol)...it can just be talking about getting hurt in some way or another and then pretending to be ok and lying about how you really feel, realizing afterwards that you can't get through it alone and so you ask your family for help.

i read somewhere that tegan said it was in reference to the fear that her family members knew what she was going through even though she lied to them and said that everything was ok. i also think she touched on the subject that she was ok with sharing her feelings in a song to tons of people but the thought of her family members and people she cared about hearing her feelings that she hid from them scared her more than releasing it to all the fans.

this song describes me exactly right now. i love how t and s songs are so raw and so to the point. it is a cry for help. someone feeling abandoned and needing their loved ones to be there for them

-i think means like hold on to life dont give up for your loved ones. i can relate so much. i might've lost my bff and am starting to realize who my rel friends are so...i dono im holding on to life for those real ones.

This song is about someone who has been going through a whole menagerie of emotions, trying to grieve something, whether it be a death or a break-up or just growing up, and in the process, they're pushing away everyone they love while also reaching out for their help.
And now she's trying to say she's sorry for being so contradictory while still trying to defend herself.

To me it deals with depression and suppressing emotions to appease other people. Pretending like everything is fine, constantly editing your words and actions to make it seem like youre okay but in reality all you want to do is break down and let everyone know how crappy everything is.
Its about getting through life one day at a time.

I think it could also tie into coming out and having to deal with everything that comes with that. "so what i lied? i lied to me to" meaning "yea okay i didnt tell you but i was also denying it to myself too"

According to Tegan in an interview, this song is basically a plea for the telephone. She had a phone plan that allowed her to make calls past 9 PM, so the "dark" in the song is referring to the time where she can make her calls.

Well, I don't know about you guys, but for some reason this rings "coming out" in my mind. Tegan and Sara are both gay, as the majority of us probably know- and Sara was fine with it waay before Tegan would let the "I'm straight" thing go. I think "hide out from the ones you know will love you" kinda means that although your family will love you regardless of that one factor, you still hide it because of all the unsure thoughts. And it especially impounded the meaning when she said "So what (come on) I lied to me too" in a sense you lie to yourself. When something happens to me that deals with my sexuality (bi) that makes me really upset, just laying in the floor and listening to that song or driving around and listening to it really helps.

lol.. when I seen them live Tegan said "dark come soon" was in reference to a certain time where she had no minutes and was only using her cell phone at night.. around 9 or something which was "dark come soon".. and then she said that probably ruined the song for everyone, cause it sounds more serious than it is.
