I felt you in my legs
Before I ever met you
And when I lay beside you
For the first time I told you

I feel you in my heart and I don't even know you
And now we're saying bye, bye, bye
And now we're saying bye, bye, bye
I was nineteen, calling me

I felt you in my life before I ever thought to
I need to lay down beside you and tell you
I feel you in my heart and I don't even know you
And now we're saying bye, bye, bye
And now were saying bye, bye, bye

I was nineteen
Calling me
I was nineteen
Calling me

Stayed inside I was so upset
Flew back home to where we met
Cooked up a plan for success
I was all alone you were all I had
You were all I
I was yours right?

I was nineteen
Calling me
I was nineteen
Calling me

My Interpretation:I feel like along with the long-lasting relationship, there's a moment of sexual realization. There's hints of a confused person thinking back on the girl/boy and the moment that led him/her at age nineteen (an age many people are finishing their first year of college) to explore/discover/accept this queer sexuality that they "felt in their legs and heart" "calling" for them long before they met/knew/named it. Maybe it wasn't meant to have that element but the emphasis on uniqueness and pained inevitability makes it feel like something beyond just a deep romantic relationship.

My Interpretation:I've listened to this song numerous of times and I think it a guy talking to a girl. This way made the most sense to me.

He falls in love with a girl who's older but she doesn't seem to reciprocate the feelings at all. In my mind, at the end of the scenario, it turns out that she does feel the same way. But because she didn't want to end up hurting him, she left so that nothing bad would happen to him. I always imagined the guy fell in love with a prostitue who happenened to be his father's latest mistress. So it's like that kind of story. Crazy, but it makes sense to me. And his mother found out and left, leaving him heartbroken even though they weren't really close but she never critisized him or anything.

Ok, so there are my thoughts.

General Comment:To me, this song is about looking back on your first great love. They will always have a place in your heart... but you were young.. and you have since moved on and away. ("flew home back to where we met") Part of the song is reliving how you left and moved on... said goodbye to something that was once so important to you on your path to growing up. In many ways, you're still insecure about what you had back then, wondering if it had the same importance in their life as yours. But you've grown up. You don't even know the person anymore ("I feel you in my heart, and I don't even know you") You know that you've changed so much, and they have too. Part of you wants to reconnect, but the other (larger?) part of you knows that who you were back then was so different than you are now. You've changed so much from the scared girl who clung to someone because she felt so alone... I know I have. This song is absolutely beautiful and it means so much to me. To me, it is about looking back on the journey to where you are now... and wondering about someone who was once so important in your life. Also, wondering if it was ever real, or if you were too young and too screwed up when you still lived in your hometown to have anything real.

General Comment:i think its about when she came to terms with her being a lesbian or when she first realised she was gay or maybe even her first gay relationship which. One of the three must have happened when she was 19 obviously

"I felt you in my legs before i ever met you"
her sexual desires were aimed toawrd women even before she met her lover

"I feel you in my heart and i dont even know you"
all she knew is that she was gay. She didnt know who she would fall in love with yet, she just knew it would be a woman

"Cooked up a plan so good except I was all alone, you were all I had"
she gave up a good part of her life to be with this girl being that its not socially exceptable

    "Now we're saying bye"
Her first relationship with a girl is over

Song Meaning:Hey there. I'm a big fan of Tegan and Sara, and have been for a long time. However, I have a different interpretation of this song that I haven't seen on here before, and decided to post my idea.
I think it is about a child.
"I felt you in my legs before I ever met you
And when I laid beside you for the first time I told you
"I feel you in my heart and I don't even know you"
    And now we're saying bye"
Pregnancy, laying with her baby, knowing the child was there, and feeling complete, then dead. "And now we're saying bye." The kid died.
I can see why it could be considered a relationship, but a child sounds more accurate to fit the song.
My friends and I came up with this, seeing as, as many have said before, Tegan and Sara are both lesbian, and it wouldn't be a man.
    Thanks for reading.

    General Comment:"I was nineteen, calling"
    &
    "i was nineteen, call me"

both lines emphasize that she was young [19] and naive chasing after and calling her. Futhermore, she shows how attatched she is by perhaps leaving voicemails saying "call me".

Song Meaning:I feel like this song is so meaningful, and the emotions touch my heart. This sounds like she fell in love with someone unexpectedly, she leaves for a while and comes back, but the one she loved doesn't feel the same, so she comes up with a plan to get this girl back in her life, but sadly she's left alone. The love she had is no longer there, and they both said they'd always love each other, but that's only puppy love and is lost.
