If I don't recover
Sell this house and find
Something lost outside your window
Not forever
But on the night I die
I swear I'll sleep outside your window

I feel the knife going in
I'm feeling anxious
Not enough to kill me
I thought it'd happen fast
But I'm feeling it now
And I feel anxious
Sleeping inches from me
I let it pass

Emy should I stop?
Do you think I'll make
It to the morning if it's written
Stitch it up
The kind of song I know
Causes mother, sister, lover worry

I feel the knife going in
I'm feeling anxious
Not enough to kill me
I thought it'd happen fast
But I'm feeling it now
And I feel anxious
Sleeping inches from me
I let it pass

Song Meaning:The song is about a dream she had. End of story.

General Comment:seems like a conversation between her and emy. maybe describing the dream that she had caused by high anxiety over her grandmother not recovering and passing way. she probably felt that death was so much more real, anytime, any place, maybe in her sleep. but that is just based on what ppl have been saying of this being about a dream and/or her grandmother passing away.

General Comment:really??? No mentions or allusions to drug use as a groundwork for the lyrics to the song???? Knife Going in/not enough to kill me??.... the kind of song that cause mother, sister, you're the worry?? idk. I thought it was clear as day but apparently i'm way off the beaten path.

General Comment:I think everyones digging to deep to find the meaning. knife going in is already a cutting thing.
I used to cut (but i dont anymore) and the not enough to kill me is what ran through my head various times. then "but im feeling it now" is when you went to far.
and of course this kind of song would worry her loved ones.

    General Comment:haha im so dense
for months i though it went:

'not enough to kill, I thought it I confess'
as in, her first reaction was that the injury wouldn't threaten her life; its not as bad as it looks

    how wrong was I haha

Song Meaning:This song is beautiful! Sara did say this song was inspired by a dream she had where Tegan was stabbed and Sara crawled into bed with her grandmother! However Sara has always been very clear on the fact that she doesn't want it to be seen as any reference to self-harm because she said that is not what it's about. A lot of people have acurately broken down the meaning of it already so I won't do it again, but definately not self-harm, definately about the pain of losing someone and dealing with that pain.

What I love most about this song is her direct reference to Emy, such an important person to her in real life even now that they aren't together. It goes a long way to proving how personal both her own songs and Tegan's are, how real and genuine their music is. Brilliant!

General Comment:I was watching the video chapter for this song, and Sara said that it was about a dream she had, the kind of dream where you're dying, but you don't die.
So she said she just wrote it about her dream.

    But, i love this song.[:

General Comment:Oh boy, how disappointed was I to find the lyric "I thought it'd happen fast" _isn't_ "I farted - I confess" as I had always hoped.
