Lyrics for Pig as interpreted by Raptor98

Pig Lyrics
when I was a baby i was so happy
i played with my friends in the mud
wilbur and jack and notice and beaty
we were a gang and you gotta believe me
momma would scold us if we got too rough
she didnt care she was proud of us
i ran around and talked to the animals
tellin them stories of savage cannibals
then i got older and noticed a girl
first i was sure i didnt exist to her
i sulked around but i didnt know why
then she put her cheek on my shoulder and i
was lookin at her and she was lookin at me
we started to smile it was our destiny
tina was her name she was my cutie pie
forgot about the things that i used to like
i spent all my time followin her around
my friends all made the whiplash sound
they understood they was happy for me and
everyone clapped when i asked her to marry me

and she said yes and we felt so fine
we lost track of the passin of time
before i knew it we had our own babies
gina and shade and kiwi and ged

but now, i've got to die
i've lived a good life i've got no complaints
i'd like to thank farmer keep
for bringin me scraps so for that i could eat
he always had a smile on his face
he didn't want to think of this day
it's finally here...
it's finally here...
oh oh oh

they called me pig
they called me pig

when i was a baby i was so happy
i played with my friends in the mud

...well, it's fairly obvious what this this song is about.
a pig from the time it's a piglet, until it grows up and gets slaughtered.

simple, yet goosebump inducing, i swear.

Amazing song. Yes it's about the life of a pig. Sums up life (for any creature) very simply. The song is very sweet yet sad. Very Pinkerton-esque. Love it!

On the version that's on the Red Album, they added a really cool touch by putting a lone snare drum hit to symbolize the gunshot that kills the pig after the last "i played with my friends in the mud" line, right as it goes quiet for a moment

A very Vegan song- The song is just the life of a pig and how the farmer hated killing, but thats how he made a living- A sad song in the life of a pig. I love what they did to it on the album, but otherwise a great song!

I like this song. Anyone think that maybe the song could be about Rivers? Him finally getting married and having "lived a good life"? Also after the 2 minute mark on the song his singing kinda reminds me of Freddie Mercury. Anyone else think that?

well, i could see why it would remind you of freddy: the third stanza/verse kinda has a bohemian rhapsody vibe

Maybe this is overdramatic but I swear to God this song gives me the chills.

It's weird how it seems to be a song that PETA would write but at the same time it relates a lot to humans too.

Essentially it's a story about A LIFE from beginning to end.

I'm interested in how of all the animals, they chose a pig.

Is it b/c people say that some people are pigs? Is it b/c pigs are usually looked at negatively and this portrays them positively?

I don't know.

But I do know is that song definitely gives me the chills.

You are all wrong. This song is both the tale of a pig and a relationship with a woman. They both end in a slaughter. The composer is not really a pig. He is a young man who finds a woman he is so taken by he becomes whipped. "I forgot about the things I used to like...I spent all my time following her around..My friends all made the whiplash sound." Get it? The slaughter?

i wouldn't say the above were all wrong... though ms22notes take on the song is interesting,

someone needs to mention the farmer is God... "i'd like to thank farmer pete" but the whole thing with the farmer having a smile on his face may contradict what im thinking, depends how religious you are i gues

I know about the chills, even when it starts and it's all happy, i still get chills.

starts when
"she didn't care, she was proud of us"

this is awesome. one of the best songs of weezer, ever.

Agreeing with RTBRAND1, this song is about all life, not just the life of a pig.

We all know death will come eventually, so we should cherish life while we have it.

In the song the "Pig" says, "I've lived a good life I've got no complaints." No one is immortal. River tries to demonstrate to the listener that death should not be feared, as it comes to everyone.

River uses Farmer Pete to both represent God and The Grim Reaper, providing food and shelter while also ending the pig's life at the end of the song.

An amazing song. Easily the deepest song of Weezer's that I've heard.

No good literature--poetry and songwriting included-- would be without metaphorical meanings. This song is probably not just about a pig. More likely, as others have mentioned, its an allegory about the life of man. We're young and play, grow up, find someone to love, and eventually die. The lyrics also explain that that life is really all there is, but that is enough to draw happiness from. That is what life is all about--finding happiness before death.

Yeah that Queen reference is pretty blatant. This is the 2nd time i can remember of weezer taking classic rock melodies (this one from Queen and Beverly Hills taken from Steve Miller Band).

This song makes my eyes soggy almost every time. "I was lookin at her and she was lookin at me. We started to smile it was our destiny" SO beautiful when he say's "and everyone clapped when i asked her to marry me". There's no fancy poetics there. It's his simple and straight-forward style that makes this song so folksy. I totally share Rivers' feelings here. But more than just my ability to identify with this song, it is just a wonderfully crafted song. So is The Angel and The One.

Actually I dont know if you guys have noticed the similarities to the book and movie "Charlottes Web" The pigs name is Wilbur but everyone calls him pig. The little girl puts her cheek on him and they both look at eachother. After that he follows her around everywhere. He also loves to play in the mud like most pigs but then there are things that make it so its not exactly the same as the story too...like: the fact that he isnt wilbur, and he had babies with the girl he fell in love with. So yeah I was just like...holy hell this is a lot like Charlotte's Web haha.

well I have kinda wiggled my way around this site for some time now, but I finally decided to make an account and contribute to all of the fun stuff going on!

So I don't know if anyone else noticed this but:

after the "pig" talks about his friends, he says

"i ran around and talked to the animals
tellin them stories of savage cannibals "

he must've been talking about how the farmer kills the animals for food.

and right after that line he says he met a girl and "forgot about the things that i used to like"

so it's almost like he knew that something was happening with the farmer killing all the animals, but then he got distracted. and he started to mate with another pig and they had piglets and then he got distracted from the issue that he always talked about.

I always thought this song was much deeper than just a pig on a farm, but I can't think of why this would be in there if it were about other things...

Its a great song, and it really makes me think when I listen to it. On the surface its a song about a pig who grows up, has piglets, and eventually gets killed for food. But it means much more than that in my mind. The whole thing is like an extended metaphor for life. The beginning is someones a happy childhood, when you go off playing games with friends and live carefree. Then he finds a girl, and he loves this girl,
"we started to smile it was our destiny "
and marries this girl, and does all he can for her. Then he has some kids of his own, wondering how time flew by so quickly ,
"we lost track of the passin of time
before i knew it we had our own babies "
and then comes to realize that his time is near. The man has lived a good long life, full of happiness, so he doesn't worry about death, and welcomes it while thanking God (the farmer) "for bringin me scraps so for that i could eat " or giving him this life full of happiness.

Even though I'm not too religious, that is what I get from the song, that we shouldn't fear death, but enjoy the life we have without fear of the end. After all, everyone has to die at some point.
For some reason as I type this I am reminded of the poem "Thanatopsis" by William Cullen Bryant.

well i would have to say it is just about a pig. I don't think that all songs need to relate to people or be symbolic. This one is just about a pig. They might be giants have a song about the sun and one about mammals. Weezer has this song about a pig. It is a good song and weezer kicks super ass awesome fun family good!
