(All your friends are gone)

It climbs in slowly behind
If you trust your neighbors
They'd never suspect what you're like
Welcome them into your life
No one has to know
Playback, delete, and rewind

It's getting closer than you thought it'd get
Just get inside
It's moving faster than you'd ever planned
You'll be relieved when

When you open up
You let yourself seem vulnerable
And the morning sun
Will make our bodies comfortable
In taking off your clothes
Everything hidden is suddenly exposed

Nobody wants to hear another
Story about how you couldn't write right
It climbs in slowly behind
No one has to know
Playback, delete, and rewind

Each one is louder than the one before
And the people you care for
At ten times the expense
of all that you spent
You'll be relieved when

When you open up
You let yourself seem vulnerable
And the morning sun
Will make our bodies comfortable
In taking off your clothes
Everything hidden is suddenly exposed

You'll keep it on the inside
'Cause that's the safest place
'Cause that's the safest place to hide

All of your friends are gone
And you were barely holding on
We were wrong and they fooled us once again
We are the loneliest of men, we're the loneliest

And all your friends are gone
Nobody hears you
And all your friends were wrong
Nobody cares
And all your friends are gone
Nobody is here with you
And all your friends were wrong

General Comment:during the summer of 2008, when i was alone i would play this into the morning. watching that sun rise, and listening to this. it was beautiful. blissful.
now its 4 years later, and im about to finish high school.
now this is the most agonizing song i can listen too. its amazing. and so sad.

My Interpretation:I feel like you guys are looking too deep into the meaning.

"It climbs in slowly behind" is just lingering thoughts of doubt in a relationship
"you trust your neighbor they'd never suspect what your like, welcome them into your life" meeting that one friend, that is soon to become a very important person in your life.
"no one has to know, play back delete and rewind" whatever your doubts are, you don't have to tell anyone, just think about it to yourself and forget about it.

basically the beginning half of the song, it's about someone very important in your life. And they slowly drift apart from you somehow. And you want to keep your feelings on the inside and not tell anyone.

Then at the climax where he sings "All of your friends are gone" (amazing build up in this song), Is the part where it's supposed to hit you like bricks with the truth. You hide all your feelings, when you just have to admit everything.

It's all about loneliness and losing the people you loved. By the end of the song, you can't interpret the meaning. What the lyrics are, are exactly what the song means. all of your friends are gone.

General Comment:I think this song is just about the pure difficulties of opening up to your friends and the possibility of rejection.

"we were wrong and they fooled us once again" is my favorite line. I think its about when you find out you were wrong about someone you trusted and how bad you feel for trusting them.

Last year I meet a this guy that I thought was pretty cool. So I started to become friends with him. Then when I began to open up more he started making fun of me and my interests. I found out that he wasn't who he seemed like and was actually a jerk. I felt like such an idiot for trusting him. We hate each other now.

Thats just the way I relate to the song and how I interpret it. No opinion is really wrong. Just go with the one that makes the most sense to you.

My Interpretation:The way I've always taken the meaning of this song is that it's about trying to hide who you are. Putting up a wall so nobody finds out who you are, trying as hard as you shield yourself from pain or disappointment. I believe He's talking about himself in this song.

To me it seems like He's expressing his frustrations with the people He hold so close, but always disappoint him when He needs them. So He hides himself away so He doesn't have to be 100% emotionally invested. It's easier to assume nobody will be there for you than to have people you depend on for emotional support to never show up.

General Comment:.....this isn't even a hard song to interpret. In fact, it's pretty self explanatory. They're just talking about someone, who loses there friends.. that's it. No killing, no religion, nothing. I don't understand why everyone always has to bring that into stuff. that kills me

General Comment:I think this song is about addiction, and how 'friends' can pressure you into doing drugs.
People who are vulnerable/ easily susceptible to drugs.

"It's moving faster than you'd ever planned." How quickly the addiction takes over your life.

"Wrong and fooled again." You think your "friends" care about you, but they don't.

In the end you have no one or you get fucked over. "We are the loneliest of men."
    'We are' Meaning; drug addicts.

Also, I think Anthony is expressing how little he trusts anyone and how he tends to keep things to himself. This is just my interpretation :)

My Interpretation:It climbs in slowly behind-
    If you trust your neighbors
(The memories of the people who left him before are coming back)
theyd never suspect what youre like
(His nieghbors may see him as a happy guy with everyone by his side but hes alone)
    Welcome them into your life
    No one has to know
    Playback, delete and rewind
(Hes starting to get attached to the neighbors and he doesnt want them to know everyone left him. deleting all of the past maybe start new)
Its getting closer than you thought itd get Just get inside
Its moving faster than youd ever planned Youll be relieved
when you open up And let yourself seem vulnerable
And the morning sun will make our bodies comfortable
in taking off your clothes everything hidden is suddenly exposed.
(This is about making the new friends after what happened before. he didnt think him and the person would get so close so fast. and its going good for now i guess you could say)

Nobody wants to hear another story about how you couldnt write right
Each one is louder than the one before
(Each feeling with this new person is stronger than the one hes had before. With the people who left him behind)
And the people you care for
    At ten times the expense
    Of all that you spent
    Youll be relieved
All of your friends are gone
And you were buried holding on
    Wrong and fooled once again
We are the loneliest of men
    All your friends are gone
    Nobody hears you
    All your friends were wrong
    Nobody cares
(this part is tricky and remember this is all my take on it but i think this is where hes coming to terms with all the people hes lost and maybe hes just giving up. when he says you were buried holding on it shows me that he still wanted the connection but something or the other person didnt so he just kept on holding on while the other person left. and when he says wrong and fooled again i see the new relationship he was working on fell apart. Its pretty much just him letting go.) Im sorry for the length haha

General Comment:We can only speculate at what Anthony Green means, because this is his expression of his own experience. Please keep in mind that what we're reading and what we're writing has only to do with OUR OWN experience, not his, and that whatever we come up with is a mere interpretation of his words. Remember that although language gives the illusion of sharing an experience, everything that arises in our life is OUR's not anyone else's.
    That being said:

When I listen to this song it resonates with a lot of my feelings. Especially the loneliness that comes with understanding that although you may have friends, family, and spouses, every relationship in this life is impermanent. What I hear is his own struggle with this type of understanding. The first few lines "it climbs in slowly behind, you trust youre neighbors theyd never suspect what you're like, welcome them into your life, no one has to know playback delete and rewind" seem to me like he's talking about waking up to the people around you, and beginning to trust them, but still with reservation. We all want to be liked, so sometimes we waste our time trying to manipulate our personalities to be more congruent with society's beliefs. Rather quickly we come to find that by conforming we are shutting out parts of ourselves which end up causing us further suffering. But until we find that out we spend time reflecting, throwing theories/ideas/concepts out and going back to the "beginning" trying to start fresh.

When I started opening to people I discovered that not many people really care about what you have to say. In my own interactions with co workers, customers, family, friends, etc I noticed how if I try to discuss things with people they quickly close down, no matter what the subject. So I started paying attention to what I was saying and I've noticed that nobodies interested in my life, mostly because everyone's living there own. Each time I notice this in my life it seems more pronounced, like I'm more aware of something. So you get "nobody wants to hear another story about how you couldn't write right...each one is louder then the one before people you care for..."

Brilliantly it seems like he understands the experience of opening up and finding your own path and he hints at that freedom in the lines "you'll be relieved when you open up, you let yourself seem vulnerable but the morning sun will make our bodies comfortable in taking off our clothes everything hidden is suddenly ." On a side note, if I look at this from the perspective of my (extremely small amount) of buddhist study it seems like what he's saying is "Drop your self, and find that you're still here" almost like an "enlightenment" experience. But I'm a bit too enthusiastic about that idea to take it too seriously.

Obviously, to me, the "keep it on the inside, cause thats the safest place to hide" is about becoming a little more introspective/introverted. Honestly I don't know if he's pointing to becoming your own best friend, or becoming TOO introverted and losing yourself in your head, both are closely related and they each involve a little of the other. Inference tells me that becoming too introverted can be crippling emotionally so I hope what he means is to let your experience unfold internally and flow out. rather than being so caught up in the external world that we have no idea what's going on inside ourselve
The last part "all of your friends are gone." resonates with where I am in life right now. A few years out of high school all of my Best friends either won't talk to me, or have gone away. Quite literally sometimes i feel like the "loneliest of men." and while this seems extremely negative, because the experience is VERY painful and confusing, the sun always shines after the darkest of night. So it's almost like he leaves the album on a hopeful note.

I hope you found this interesting, but for all intents and purposes you probably didn't.

My Interpretation:Even though I don't think that the way I interpret this song is the way it was meant to be, but that's what I love about circa's songs. The lyrics are so deep that you can relate to them in a lot of different situations. When I hear the song, I kind of take it literally. I'm a perfectionist at some things, and I like to make myself seem perfect with no problems even though I clearly have a lot. This song basically tells me that I will be much happier if I open up and let people see me for the real me. And I feel like it was talking about me when it says, "You keep it on the inside 'cause that's the safest place to hide." Its just really inspiring knowing that if I let myself seem vulnerable that people will still like me, maybe even more. I hope all you guys were inspired by this song to be the real you too.
