I wondered through fiction to look for the truth
Buried beneath all the lies
And I stood at a distance
To feel who you are
Hiding myself in your eyes

And hold on before it's too late
Until we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

And the risk that might break you
Is the one that would save
A life you dont live is still lost
So stand on the edge with me
Hold back your fear and see
Nothing is real til it's gone

And hold on before its too late
Until we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

So live like you mean it
Love til you feel it
It's all that we need in our lives
So stand on the edge with me
Hold back your fear and see
Nothing is real til it's gone

Hold on before its too late
Until we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

Hold on before its too late
Until we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

It's all that we need in our lives
It's all that I need in my life

Song Meaning:"Before It's Too Late" is the song my wife and I chose as our wedding song, so it's pretty meaningful to me.

That said, I never thought about it enough to have any clue what it was really about. So I decided to sit down and take this song apart line-by-line for my blog and find out what, if anything, is the deeper meaning and substance of this song.

This is a song about risk-taking and not stagnating, about embracing your true self and rejecting conformity, about living and loving fully being what’s necessary to live a fulfilling life. So is there substance? Yeah. Much, much more than I’d expected, to be honest. Is it heartfelt and honest? Most definitely. Is it acceptable as a wedding song? Yeah. Yeah, I’ll take it.

Anybody who wants to read my in-depth, line-by-line interpretation of this song's meaning, feel free to check out the article on "Before It's Too Late" on my blog here: dabidsblog.wordpress.com/2010/09/25/music-interpretation-song-analysis-before-its-too-late-goo-goo-dolls/

Song Meaning:transformers isn't famed for the sam and mikaela theme but still their story is beautiful, if not a little cheesey and cliche. critics say the movie, and the seuqel in theatres now, is every teenage boys wet dream - how very true. i don't know any guy who wouldn't want to go through what sam did in the story, and no i'm not just referring to megan fox. this song basically embraces the philosophy (for lack of better term) of youth and youth's appreciation of life. and i believe that it's never okay to stop embracing your life nor ever too late to begin embracing it again. you're here, on earth, reading this right now, living, breathing, might as well try to enjoy it as much as possible. a life not lived is still lost - how very true

General Comment:I like the last line, i reckon it changes the whole perspective of the song

If you look, the chorus states ''its all that we need in our lives''. Whereas in the last chorus, Rzeznik sings ''its all that WE need in OUR lives'' twice, but then finishes off by singing ''its all that I need in MY life''

Dont know about anyone else but this changes the way i look at the song altogether. For the whole song i picture scenes from Transformers and think about how they both help the good ones fight the bad ones etc etc...and then i heard the last line and remembered how he always wanted her but felt she was too good for him and he wouldnt stand a chance etc etc. So it's all that he needs in his life...to be with her. He stood out at distance, to feel who she is....

    Thats what i reckon anyway

General Comment:To me this song is about someone who knows what it is like to regret a lot of things. I feel like this song is telling you to take all the chances you want, because if you don't , thats it, you don't get another shot. And if you be who you are, then everything will fall into place.

General Comment:This song is def amazing! Personally it doesn't get me as much as black balloon or here is gone or slide, but the lyrics are just as good!

"I stood at a distance to feel who you are hiding myself in your eyes..." So often we try to be what we think others want to see in us, but we are scared to get close to them until we feel we can show who we really are. I think this song is about taking a chance and not being afraid to show your true colours to the world

General Comment:I think this is about a guy who is falling for a girl who is very insecure, and has lots of fear in life. She's holding herself back from taking risks and actually being who she really is, and the guy is afraid she's not living life because of it.

In general, it's a hopeful song and it is so comforting. I could be the person he's singing about...

It's a reminder that life is too short to put up with fear. Just live it with all your heart, don't let anything hold you back. It's over before you know it.

General Comment:Don't listen to what others say, just be who you are, and don't let others control you. If you don't take risks, you aren't living at all.
