Danced all night, and slept all day
Careless with my heart again
Fearless when it comes to playing games

You don't cry, and you don't care
Afraid to have a love affair
Is that your ghost or are you really there?

Now, I can't walk
I can't talk anymore since you walked out the door
And now I'm stuck living out that night again
I'm not falling apart

Weather on a sunny day
Time slows down; I wish you'd stay
Pass me by in crowded, dark hallways
Mmm

I try my hardest not to scream
I find my heart is growing weak
So leave your reasons on the bathroom sink

Now, I can't walk
I can't talk anymore since you walked out the door
And now I'm stuck living out that night again
I'm not falling apart

I heard you say you needed me now
What's the problem? I can't see
You destroyed me; I won't fall apart again
I'm not falling apart

Take what you wanted
I will be just fine
You will be better off alone at night
Waiting and falling
Constantly calling out your name
Will it ever change?

Now, I can't walk
I can't talk anymore since you walked out the door
And now I'm stuck living out that night again
I'm not falling apart

I heard you say you needed me now
What's the problem? I can't see
You destroyed me; I won't fall apart again
I'm not falling apart

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

General Comment:It's about 2 friends who've ended up sleeping with each other. One develops feelings for the other, whereas the other doesn't want anything more. They continue to have a sexual relationship, and to the singer's dismay, the "friend" has not developed anything and just sees it as sex.
Throughout the explanation, I've put friend in parenthesis, because this friend isn't really a friend. A friend is someone who doesn't use another, especially when such deep feelings are involved.

Please excuse the super long explanation, by the way. This may not all be accurate, I may just be projecting. But, whatever. That's what music is for, people will interpret things differently.

"Danced all night and slept all day/Careless with my heart again/Fearless when it comes to playing games"
    - I don't think he's describing himself at the moment. I believe the line 'danced all night and slept all day' describes his "friend" as someone who is a free spirit. 'Careless with my heart again' is how he feels in the situation, that his friend knew there was something there, that he has feelings for them, however they didn't mind it. 'Fearless when it comes to playing game,' again describes how the "friend" is a free spirit. They're fearless, careless and don't mind playing games, making him feel like there's a chance that they can be together.

"You don't cry and you don't care"
    - The "friend" doesn't show any emotion to his feelings.

"Afraid to have a love affair"
    - I don't think this necessarily means that the "friend" is currently seeing someone. I believe it just means a new relationship with him. He's pursuing something, and he feels like it's love. The "friend" is the one who is afraid to purse anything, especially since the singer feels so strongly for them.

"Is that your ghost or are you really there?"
    - Once again, the "friend" is emotionless. They don't care.

"Now I can't walk, I can't talk anymore/Since you walked out the door/And now I'm stuck living out that night again/I'm not falling apart"
    - He can't function properly, he's lost. He wants to be with the "friend" so badly. He continues to relive that moment the "friend" walked out on him, because it's something they always do. He then tries to be sarcastic and says, 'nah, I'm not falling apart.'

"Wither on a sunny day/Time slows down; I wish you'd stayed/Pass me by in crowded, dark hallways"
    - See how a rose or a plant flourishes in the sun? It's happy and getting all the rays it needs to live. Well, this is the opposite for him. Often, people are at their best on beautiful, sunny days. But, for him, although it's a sunny day, he's sulking. "Pass me by in crowded, dark hallways," he'll be sulking in the darkness on his own.

"I try my hardest not to scream/I find my heart is growing weak/So leave your reasons on the bathroom sink"
    - He's trying his best to compose himself, but he's slowly losing. He's upset, and nothing can make him feel otherwise until she feels the same, so he tells her to leave her excuses as to why they can't be together on the sink - the drain. The drain is where waste/garbage goes, so to him, her excuses are garbage.

"I heard you say you needed me now/What's the problem; I can't see"
    - His "friend" has come around again, now that they see he's slowly moving on. They're showing interest, saying they need them as "friend" now, because they're going through problems. But, the singer is being a bit vengeful, saying "yeah, whatever. I don't see a problem."

"You destroyed me, I won't fall apart again"
    - He's finally told his friend, "you destroyed me. I was once this confident, happy-go lucky guy. However, I'm onto you. I need to fix myself. I'm not gonna let you destroy me again."

"Take what you want/And I will be just fine"
    - Once again, he's telling his "friend" sarcastically, 'take whatever you want from me,' which is sex and that he'll be fine. There's a little sadistic pleasure in it, though. Because, it's the only way he'll be able to spend time with his "friend."

"You'll be better off alone at night/Waiting and falling/Constantly calling out your name/Will it ever change?"
    - He's telling his "friend," that they'll be OK regardless what happens. That at night, when they leave to go back to their place, they won't feel anything, whereas he'll be destroyed. He'll long for them some more. He'll be waiting for them, still falling for them. Constantly thinking about them. He then asks, "what the fuck? Is it ever gonna change? This cycle is exhausting."

Song Meaning:One of my all time favorite songs and lyrics.

The worst feeling is when you lose someone who is not coming back - you just feel shattered. This song is about someone trying to not fall apart - holding themselves together. But that is just the thing you can't hold yourself together - no one can under those circumstances. You just feel paralyzed. You feel like you can’t talk or walk.

My Interpretation:And on the part where he says, "leave your reasons on the bathroom sink"
I think he is implying that the only way he will stay with her is if she is pregnant with his baby.

Could be wrong! But just my opinion.

General Comment:This song is so deep and true. Everytime I hear it I am brought to tears because it tells of a constant push and pull dealing with love. I had a relationship like this with a guy and I was so stupid. He was constantly trying and trying to get me to love him and I pushed away most of the time and only wanted him sometimes. I took so much from him. He took a lot from me.
    Damn.

My Interpretation:It's almost as if he's replaying every memory of his relationship in his head. Like he's drowning his sorrows by nights out on the town and meaningless flings to block out her memory. The more he does, though, the more he realizes he's falling apart. So he's trying to keep it together, telling himself that he isn't falling apart and reasons why he isn't and shouldn't be. By the time he gets to my favorite lines in the song (Take what you wanted, I will be just fine. You will be better off alone at night), he meets her again, maybe coming to get her things and he decides to tell her he's fine and doesn't need her. The minute she leaves, probably around the 'waiting and falling' line, he breaks down and is actually falling apart, but keeps telling himself he's fine until he can't anymore.

General Comment:The way this song starts, it sounds like it should be playing during the prom scene in Grease,...I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

General Comment:This song is one of my favourites off of the new album (Which i adore).
I'm not sure about the one night stand thing but it's a good idea. It makes logical sense when you think about it. It's certain that he's getting over a girl who's obviously let him down.
The thing i'm most intrigued about is the lyric
'so leave your reasons on the bathroom sink'
I'd love to know what you guys think but for me i think it means he wants her to leave her excuses and her lies somewhere where he won't go looking for them, somewhere where he won't ever find them because if he knows why she did what she did it won't help him get over her.
This song has a very personal meaning to me because i saw them live last year for the first time and it was the best night of my life. I'm absoloutely in love with maroon 5 and the chorus completely sums up how i felt when i had to leave the arena and them behind.

    'Now I can't walk
I can't talk any more since you
    Walked out the door
Now i'm stuck living out that night again'

I can never listen to that lyric without feeling happy yet sad at the same time.

General Comment:This album works so well for how I feel about my ex. Its an amazing hurt or broken love, broken heart.
I'd love to tell him I'm not falling apart, but neither of us would believe that.

General Comment:For some reason I think this song is about a one night stand between two people who arent strangers, but who are already familer with eachother. the song takes place the night after.

Danced all night and slept all day
    Careless with my heart again
Fearless when it comes to playing games

He wasnt thinking, most likely drinking too much but at that moment he went for it, and didnt think of the consequences.

You don’t cry and you don’t care

The girl he's in love with seems to show no emotion toward the incident.

Afraid to have a love affair

Either they're both seeing other people or Its her whos already in a realtionship and has just cheated but is afaird to go further and have a "love affair".

Is that your ghost or are you really there?

It's the next day and they're in bed together and [I think he's probably a bit disorineted] he's doenst beleive that she's really there.

    Now I can’t walk, I can’t talk anymore
Since you walked out the door
And now I’m stuck living out that night again
    I’m not falling apart

The chorus refers to how he is feeling since she left his place and all he's left with is the night he was with her. And since she shows no signs of emotion, he tries to imitate her .

    Wither on a sunny day
Time slows down; I wish you’d stayed
Pass me by in crowded, dark hallways

It's been awhile since they've been together and he wishes that perhaps she had stayed longer in bed and maybe that could have turned into something more but instead she passes him in the hallways or in the street but again, she shows no emotion.

I try my hardest not to scream
I find my heart is growing weak
So leave your reasons on the bathroom sink

He wants to do something about it, to say something but he cant, and he feels himself getting weaker. I think that they probably have been together more than once and when they have its at his place. The bathroom sink means that she may have left something of hers there.

I heard you say you needed me now
    What’s the problem; I can’t see
You destroyed me, I won’t fall apart again
    I’m not falling apart

She calls him whenever she feels down but he feels tired and used by this, but again tries to convince himself that he feels nothing.

    Take what you want
And I will be just fine
You’ll be better off alone at night
    Waiting and falling
    Constantly calling out your name
    Will it ever change?

    He wants to finish it.
That she'd be better off without him, when its really him that will be better off without her.
That even if he wants to stop thinking about her, he wont. A part of him will still be waiting for her. He dreams of her, calling out her name and he doesnt know if that will ever change.

that's what I got out of it, why do guys think?

General Comment:Yes it's a very sad song lyrically, but the sound is kind of upbeat. I think it would make a good single.
