She had an earthquake on her mind
I almost heard her cry out as I left her far behind
And knew the world was crashing down around her

I sink to the ocean floor
Because I know that we are more
But I've made this mess
I built this fire
Are you still mine?

[Chorus]
'Cause, baby, I'm not all right when you go
I'm not fine
Please be all mine
I never want you to go because I am all yours
So please be all mine

She had an earthquake on her mind
Apparently, the kind that would bury us alive
By putting all this weight on us forever
I lie here on the ocean floor
Broken castle by the shore
And I made this mess
I built this fire
Are you still mine?

[Chorus]

Let me save us
I've slaughtered us
I've murdered our love
I can taste it,
This blood in my mouth
This knife in my lungs
Have I murdered our love?
Have I murdered our love?

[Chorus]

'Cause, baby, I'm not all right
Baby, I'm not all right when you go
Please be all mine
I never want you to go because I am all yours
So please be all mine

My Interpretation:SO since we are all entitled to an opinion ima go ahead and leave my interpretation :D

She had an earthquake on her mind
I almost heard her cry out as I left her far behind
and knew the world was crashing down around her

**"earthquake" being the trouble in their relationship (possibly she know9s he's doing something shitty and cant stop him) , crying out as he leaves(to do whatever it is that’s troubling her), breaking down because she’s upset?

I sink now to the ocean floor
cause I know that we are more
    but I've made this mess
I've built this fire, Are you still mine?

**"Sinks" could be that he's sulking or willing sinking into whatever troubles come his way, made this mess - he f-ed up?, built this fire- trying to forget it (burning/cleansing) -, are you still mine - maybe she'll forgive him.

Cause baby I'm not all right when you go
I'm not fine, Please be all mine
I never want you to go because I am all yours so please be all mine.

**i think this is actually from the chicks point of view, or whoever the person he left far behind is, asking him to not go do whatever he's doing.

She had an earthquake on her mind
apparently the kind that would bury us alive
by putting all this weight on us forever

**so whatever happened has been said and done and now she/they can never forget it.

I lie here on the ocean floor broken castle by the shore and
    I made this mess
I built this fire, Are you still mine?

**the ocean floor being him at his lowest point, (the castle referencing the amazing relationship they had that has now fallen apart) the mess and fire still being him screwing up and trying to forget he’s done it.

    Let me save us
I've slaughtered us, I've murdered our love

**he wants to fix it, but its gotten so bad that he cant, he done murdered it.

I can taste it, This blood in my mouth
    This knife in my lungs

** i agree with what has been said before about this referencing his inability to voice what he’s feeling.. just not in the gay way aha. Blood in is mouth stating he sees it was his fault.

    Have I murdered our love?

** he wants to know if there is a chance to save it by asking if he had murdered it now.

Cause baby I'm not all right when you go
I'm not fine, Please be all mine
I never want you to go because I am all yours so please be all mine.

** i consider the last part to be a sort of role reversal in which now HE is asking HER not to leave because he dun goofed.

****I know I didn’t state this but I do agree that whatever the problems they're having are, could be drug related. (knew the world.. *him knowing it hurts her but doing them anyways.)

so yea there ya go :) what I think, if ya don’t like it a shouldn’t have read.

General Comment:I'm going out on a limb here, but i'm thinking that they're trying to say people aren't the same when they're high and it sometimes ruins the relationship between others. I'm not going to go through every line, but that's pretty much what i got out of it whether it was him who was giving in and 'she' left, or she was the one and he left... or the 'she' is the drug of choice and he wants to stay on it forever.
i can see all of those being acceptable.

My Interpretation:One of my favorite Used songs!

Now time for me to decipher this baby...

She had an earthquake on her mind
I almost heard her cry out as I left her far behind
and knew the world was crashing down around her

Despite what most people think, I believe this whole song is solely about ONE girl and not two. The "earthquake" in her mind seems to be a hindrance of some sort, a time of trouble, but what exactly the situation is isn't made quite clear. The point is that in her time of trouble, the guy wasn't there for her. He knowingly walked out on her during the worst time of her life. I guess I sort of see it like this: during a real earthquake, you would never purposely leave a loved one behind to be trampled on [and quite possibly die] by rubble, would you?

I sink now to the ocean floor because I know that we are more but
    I've made this mess
I built this fire, Are you still mine?

The guy fell into a deep deep misery, as deep as the "ocean floor" out of sheer guilt and love. Seems to me he loved this girl that he abandoned and he's blaming himself for not having reached out a hand. He made their relationship's own funeral, he "made this mess," and he's putting all the blame upon himself.

Cause baby I'm not all right when you go
I'm not fine, Please be all mine
I never want you to go because I am all yours so please be all mine.

That last line always gets to me! In fact, I don't think this part needs to be interpreted at all.

She had an earthquake on her mind apparently the kind that would
    bury us alive
by putting all this weight on us forever
I lie here on the ocean floor broken castle by the shore and
    I made this mess
I built this fire, Are you still mine?

The disturbance in her mind affected the two of them. They will both forever remember their relationship as a very sad and depressing one. The guy is still stacking all the blame upon himself and for some reason or another doesn't want her to leave despite the discourse that has happened between them. He still wants her to stay with him; he still loves her. "Broken castle by the shore" just suggests to me that the guy's manhood was "broken." (Not literally!) To me, a castle conveys an image of a man's domain, his territory, his manhood.

    Let me save us
I've slaughtered us, I've murdered our love
I can taste it, This blood in my mouth
    This knife in my lungs
    Have I murdered our love?

Let me see if I can turn this into modern words. "Let me still salvage this relationship! I ruined everything, and not just ruined, SLAUGHTERED! MURDERED! I've really done it. Have I really murdered our love? Oh god, I've done it..."

This is a sweet ass song, imho.

General Comment:I usually don't like 'love songs', and with The Used I usually only like stuff like 'The Bird and The Worm' or more darker stuff, but I can't deny the fact that this song is pretty damn good for them.

General Comment:To me, it seems like in the beggining of the relationship, 'he' didn't want 'her' because of an arguement, fight, ect (I heard you cry, as I left you far behind) . But towards the end, 'he' realizes that he made the mess (built the fire) and now wants her back and has nothing (Broken castled by the shore).

General Comment:when i hear this song, it definitely doesn't make me think about a gay relationship at all, so i just want to put that out there first for anyone who says this song is about him being gay.

i recently broke up with my boyfriend of 10months because he treated me like shit. he pointed out all of my flaws and i grew bitter. i kept it bottled up how much it bothered me- how much i grew to HATE him for the nasty things he said to me... even though he was only trying to "make the relationship better."

this song basically illustrates the relationship PERFECTLY. its clearly about a girl who bottled up feelings about a guy who did something to wrong the girl, thus creating an "earthquake." and of course, he is remorseful, because he didnt want it to end. whatever he did, it wasnt his intention to end the relationship.

and i know my "ex" agrees that this song illustrates what we are going through right now because he is the one who posted it on his xanga when writing about the break up. (wow, that xanga reference made me sound like im in high school! way to lower your age, zooey!)

and for the record, i like this song as well as dark days and smother me. but youre all right, this is nothing like their old stuff, which is infinitely better! (:

General Comment:I think the "Lies For The Liars" Album is their best album. But the lyrics were better on the other albums. In Lies for the liars there are more attitude, not just depressed feelings in melody. hopefully they'll leave emo music.
