Let me apologize to begin with
Let me apologize for what I'm about to say
But trying to be genuine was harder than it seemed
And somehow I got caught up in between
Let me apologize to begin with
Let me apologize for what I'm about to say
But trying to be someone else was harder than it seemed
And somehow I got caught up in between
[Chorus]
Between my pride and my promise
Between my lies and how the truth gets in the way
The things I want to say to you get lost before they come
The only thing that's worse than one is none
Let me apologize to begin with
Let me apologize for what I'm about to say
But trying to regain your trust was harder than it seemed
And somehow I got caught up in between
[Chorus]
The only thing that's worse than one is none
And I cannot explain to you
In anything I say, or do, or plan
Fear is not afraid of you
Guilt's a language you can understand
I cannot explain to you in anything I say or do
I hope the actions speak the words they can
For my pride and my promise
For my lies and how the truth gets in the way
The things I want to say to you get lost before they come
The only thing that's worse than one is...
For my pride and my promise
Between my lies and how the truth gets in the way
The things I want to say to you get lost before they come
The only thing that's worse than one is none
The only thing that's worse than one is none
The only thing that's worse than one is none
Let me apologize for what I'm about to say
But trying to be genuine was harder than it seemed
And somehow I got caught up in between
Let me apologize to begin with
Let me apologize for what I'm about to say
But trying to be someone else was harder than it seemed
And somehow I got caught up in between

I think that means that he broke a promise or something and it was really important. Like he was playing truth or dare and got out something he was supposed to keep a secret, but in the end let it out and the next day everyone knew about it and he got in trouble and the girl's trust was aken and he's trying to get it back, hence the words " But trying to regain your trust was harder than it seemed," and " But trying to be someone else was harder than it seemed
And somehow I got caught up in between, between
My pride
And my promise"
Of course he's apologizing, and yes, it can be used in any apology-need situation. But i have to say, a lot of these theories about cheating are pretty good specially iamanincubusfan and johndh90 ones. But to me, it always felt a little apology to himself. It reminds me a little to "pieces" by Sum 41. You see, he is being fake, he tries to be perfect or something like that, he's not being evil, and he's feeling good. "But trying to be genuine was harder than it seemed
And somehow I got caught up in between" That's what it means to me, he wanted to fit somewhere and he liked the way things were going, but he wasn't being true to himself or his beliefs.
But trying to be someone else was harder than it seemed-- here, he sees that by being fake, thigs were't going so great as he thought.
And somehow I got caught up in between--obvious, between, his roots and who he is and who is is becoming.
Between my lies and how the truth gets in the way--- Everytime he does something, he remembers that is not real.
The only thing that's worse than one is none---I think, this one, is not another person, The 'ONE', is HIMSELF. And he'd rather be the ONLY ONE that actually knows and respects himself, than having a lot of people who think they do, but he knows is not real. NONE, would mean everybody else and himself believing in the fake one, and no one not even himself believing in the honest one.
Maybe it doesn't make sence to you, but to me, who relate with these meanings and have helped me so much get through a lot of stuff lately, this is what it means, being honest and true to who you are, and trying to go back the right way.
The only thing that's worse than one is none
there is so much to say about it.
it's written much like a confession, to cheating, most likely. but, it's applicable to almost any type of relationship. in the first part, he apologizes right off the bat, and immediately defends himself. the whole time, he honestly meant to do well and be 'genuine' but was bound to fuck up because of his pride.
pride, or selfishness, is what guides most ppl to fuck up. pride is what drives many ppl to cheat: the need to feel wanted and to show the world what they have to offer. his promise was to be faithful, and refrain from hurting the other one in the relationship. or, it could have been a promise to change.
he wants to be honest with 'her', but fear of losing her keeps him from confessing or from revealing his true identity. he only tells her who he wants to be, not who he is.
"But trying to regain your trust was harder than it seemed, And somehow I got caught up in between.. Between my lies and how the truth gets in the way"
maybe after his first 'cheat' or 'fuck up', he tried to stop. but without the patience to build the trust back, he gives up, and becomes caught up in his own lies. it gets harder to manipulate 'her' into believing he is the man that he wishes to be.
"And I cannot explain to you
And anything I say or do or plan
Fear is not afraid of you
But guilt's a language you can understand"
he cannot be honest because his actions reveal his true self, and she would not stay with him. she loves the person he has convinced her he is, but not the real him. fear does not work on her, so he cannot use threats or intimidation to keep her from searching for the truth. however, he can manipulate her using guilt. perhaps making her feel guilty for not trusting and believing in him.
I had a boyfriend, the first i ever loved, who cheated on me, repeatedly. he was able to manipulate me enough to believe all of his lies, and i was the last to know. at the end, when i finally let him go, he sent me this song. it said everything he couldn't.
it's creepy how well this song matches him.
Never have I heard a more opportune song at a more opportune moment.
I don't know why everybody's hating on it so hard. I guess we all just have different opinions. *shrugs*
peace out
