Lyrics for Strange Lights as interpreted by makingbeds

Strange Lights Lyrics
What direction should we choose
Were lost and still confused
I walk into the sun
With you the only one
Who understood the ways
The hours became days
The weeks turn into months
We walk into the sun
So glad to have a guide
Less lonely for the ride
And should this car ascend
At least Im with a friend
In space all things are slow
No sound with speakers blown
The silence fits the scene
The prince is now the king
Neon blurs my sight
Im guided by strange lights
Im rattled and Im stunned
We walk into the sun

"The walk is taking days"

Erm, it's definitely not 'taking' ... but I can't tell at all what it really is.

"Because walking's half the fun"

True that.

But whatever, this song should be the first track on the album. It's the easiest to connect with. Once you connect with this song the others will make so much more sense and sound so much better.

I believe this song is touching on the reassessment individuals experience when “awaking” from a bender, binge, or long drug induced duration, where they haven’t accomplished anything but meandering through space and time and how easy it is to loss track of the time that is spent in such odd feats. It also hints on the solace that is felt to have someone who has equally wasted their time with you and how valued those relationships are for someone who feels desponded from normality’s realm. Albeit, Atlas Sound expressed his despise for psychedelia, the lyrical content seem appropriate to dub psychedelic. As you intake more and more of it, individuals have a tendency to gravitate towards obscurity, or, guided by strange lights. That's my half ass decipher.

"the music for strange lights was written entireley by lockett, who told me about a dream he had in which he and i and our friend walked into the sun together, knowing it was going to kill us, but we did it anyway just to be doing something together i guess. I think of this as an unrequited homoerotic lovesong from me to someone else. Its very complicated. It's mainly about brotherhood or friendship. It's about companionship, and facing uncertainty with someone to share it with. Pretty sentimental stuff but its the product of our interpersonal relationships and stuff and is really meant to be sincere."

To Aoshie, it would make absolutely no sense to put this song first. They weren't attempting to make it accessible to...whoever, they recorded this CD during two completely different sessions with polar opposite tones, feelings and execution. Bradford Cox has been noted to be dealing with a lot of personal issues during the making of this CD, which is vividly apparent on the first half. After the transition through ambient songs and mood swings, you arrive to happier tones and concepts. This belongs towards the end, because the CD as a whole progresses the same way production did.

His vocals sound so delicate yet deeply emotionally affecting. The whole Spring Hall Convert-Strange Lights-Hazel St. "trifecta" near the latter half of the album is just glorious to hear. Three great pop songs back-to-back-to-back; just lovely.
