Lyrics for First Time as interpreted by jasonwadeofcourse

First Time Lyrics
We're both looking for something
We've been afraid to find
It's easier to be broken
It's easier to hide

Looking at you, holding my breath
For once in my life I'm scared to death
I'm taking a chance letting you inside

I'm feeling alive all over again
As deep as a sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Well maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right
Where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

The world that I see inside you
Waiting to come to life
Waking me up to dreaming
Reality in your eyes

Looking at you, holding my breath
For once in my life I'm scared to death
I'm taking a chance letting you inside

I'm feeling alive all over again
As deep as a sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Well maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right
Where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

We're crashing
Into the unknown
We're lost in this
But it feels like home

I'm feeling alive all over again
As deep as a sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Well maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right
Where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

Like being in love she said for the first time
Like being in love with you the first time

To me, I think of it as two people who were in love a while back. But something went wrong, and they broke up. And for a while it seemed "easier to hide" and "easier to be broken". But now that they've found eachother again, all of the feelings are rushing back, and it's how they first felt all over again. They're scared, but they're both letting each other back inside.

Or maybe this is just me referencing it to my life. Who knows, haha.

I think this song could be interpreted as doing anything for the first time and how scared you feel about it. So yes, it could be interpreted to mean a salvation experience. It could even be interpreted to mean a new relationship, the birth of a child, or any kind of a life change for that matter. As for me, after a rough couple of years in the education industry, I have come to the realization that there is a distinct possibility that I am being called to be a pastor...and yes, believe it or not, I can relate this song to that! There's just something about making a life change that seems to be present in this song, be it studying to be a pastor or a new relationship or whatever. You notice that this song is sung in an upbeat fashion so it's a scary (but exciting!) change in someone's life.

It's a good song but...
it's too popular and can get annoying after a while.

Well, lets look at the meaning here...
(another great acoustic arrangment might I add!)
The song wasn't written by a teenage boy who fell in love for the first time....it's written by a middle aged man in regards to a current relationship. There were relationships in my high school/college days where everything was there, but it just didn't work out. As I can relate in my late 20's, have had quite a few relationships where it wasn't there, I didn't feel it. And then...all of a sudden, one (a relationship) comes along where it's there. It catches you off-guard, you don't expect it because you're not looking for it. Everything is there, and as the female states in this song...it's like the 'first time'. The butterflys, nerves, the stomach aches, etc.
That's what this song is about, it's about having had, loosing it and then coming across it again down the road. And all the while, not looking for it, but, just finding it as you live.

LIKE BEING IN LOVE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!

how come that i can say he's afraid to take the risk to have a relationship
because of this part

Looking at you, holding my breath
For once in my life I'm scared to death
I'm taking a chance letting you inside

he's giving a try or letting himself to take the chance

and in this part

I'm feeling alive all over again
As deep as a sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Well maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right
Where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

he's not only afraid but at the same time he's blissful
because wen we fol in love in the 1st tym, we have mix emotions ayt?
we're so happy, excited and inspired but then afraid as well ayt??

"Looking at you, holding my breath
For once in my life I'm scared to death
I'm taking a chance letting you inside"

"For once in my life i'm scared to death" simply means that he has finally found something worth living for so therefore he is scared to lose her or lose the happiness he has found within her.

another interpretation i perceived by this song links back to the song "whatever it takes"
in this song he is "taking a chance letting you inside" and in whatever it takes the girl tells him "You gotta let me inside even though it hurts"

there obviously is some connection between the two songs, possibly about the same girl or some personal difficulty of letting someone else in.

I think this song is about two lonely, broken hearted people who have found each other and just found comfort, not necessarily love or sex. They've just found someone who shares their experiences and someone they can talk to.

I've always taken this song as a first love kind of song...
I think of a man and woman together,
but I heard it on my Christian rock station on Pandora. I know that the members of Lifehouse are Christians, but I don't think of this song as worship at all.
With that being said, I love this song, and Jesus. :)
