I play a game 'til I'm dead
Or on a magazine
I wanna look like I'm dead
Dancing on a string
I eat the food when it's there
Make a mess of things
Get that look everywhere
But keep that look off my face

Everybody else wanna fall in love
There's no room for love in a modern sky
Living in the era vulgaris
Just drool in the dark
As you stare at the lights

From a crumbling tower I see everything
London, Tokyo, New York City
There's no love any place

Everybody else wanna fall in love
There's no room for love in a modern sky
Living in the era vulgaris
Just drool in the dark
As you stare at the lights

All we creatures helplessly attacking repetition
Over, over left with who we are
Did you tell anyone?
Did you tell any place?

Everybody else wanna fall in love
There's no room for love in a modern sky
Living in the era vulgaris
Just drool in the dark
As you stare at the lights

Living in the era vulgaris
Just drool in the dark
As you stare at the lights

Just stare at the lights

General Comment:The time set on the words Era Vulgaris in the chorus are like vul-gar-us at a step i can't figure out. (possibly 1/16 on vul than 1/24 on gar-is or flip-flopped) Though the way it's pronounced sounds like fal-gaar-us kind of, It's definitly an odd song. Thats why I Love It!

General Comment:Am I the only person who thinks this sounds a lot like Them Crooked Vultures' Spinning in Daffodils?

General Comment:You know what? I still can't catch the line 'living in the era vulgaris'. It sounds like there is something extra there, but I can't place it. Sounds like 'Living in the Era vul-fucking-garis' or something like that.

But yes, I love this song.

General Comment:I think it's "I eat the food when it's dead", not "there"

General Comment:This song was about Hollywood. Where josh homme found his inspiration for the album (Era Vulgaris) the dark culture of a shallow civilization

General Comment:Has anyone heard the Richard File Remix or this song?
It's on the Germany Special Edition thing.
    It's pretty good.
But the chorus is left out.

This whole song is a failure of our culture...

    Pretty much...

Everybody else wanna fall in love
    There's no room for love
    In a modern sky
    Living in the era vulgaris
Just drool in the dark as you stare at the lights

Everybody wanna fall in live ? Theres no love ? Well no shit ! This 'love' is drunk bitches with stds...

In "A modern sky" Living in the age of excess ??

    Well hey buddy...Josh Homme says:

'Just drool in the dark as you stare at the lights'

and he might just have a point...

General Comment:Anyone who's read anything about this album or song should know that Era Vulgaris actually means The Common Erain Latin; but just because it's the common era doesn't mean that it's any less vulgar, or that we're any less a part or even the cause of it.
