    Song Meaning:I was at a concert of Tyler's last night, and he explained the meaning of this song and the reason why he wrote it. Apparently, way back when, there was a girl who he was interested in and was trying to get to go out on a date with him. She kept turning him down because she was convinced that he was "the devil" because he was a musician. Those were his words exactly. He wrote the song to show her that he wasn't a bad guy, and that she shouldn't let the stereotypes of musicians cloud her judgement of him. He said he never ended up getting with her, but he was glad to have gotten a good song out of the experience.

    General Comment:this song was featured in one tree hill (if you've ever seen the show you'll get this) and he plays the character chris keller, who has a rep for being a player/jerk... but he loves the girl haley, and he wants her to see him for who he is hence, "i am what you see, i am not what they say. but if i turned out to be, could you love me anyways?" i think tyler wrote this almost a bit self conscious of himself even, just saying that he'd made a rep for himself and just wanted to be seen as him... not viewed as a player, or a jerk, or anything other than tyler.

    General Comment:the song is about loving or like a guy as what he is..and not judge him by what other people say about him or whatever...take him as he is right? the thing i like about this song is, that he could be a geek or a "bad guy", does'nt really matter. This is a song for people who are perhaps in love and wants the girl to take him like they see "him"Let the girl decide, you know:) if she can?

    General Comment:I like austinrita's interpretation :-) But I can see it in a different light too...

    It's almost like she is manipulating him; stringing him along so to speak. IE-- "I'm not hip to all your tricks, your algebra, your politics."
    Buttt the tell-tale line for me is when he says, "I have confidence issues with your intentions." To me, this says he can't trust her.

    But he still wants her... Oh my, does he want her. And I get the feeling he'd do anything for her-- but can only do so much, because of her manipulation, and the fact that for whatever reason, she won't let him in. So, instead of putting up with her nonesense-- he just is there, willing to wait. Hence MY MOST FAVORITE LYRIC of the song, "Standing annonymous, hoping your heart will just wake up and ask for me by name. Maybe someday it will ask for me by name-- just not today."
