Though I'd like to be the girl for him and cross the sea and land for him
In milky skin my tongue is sand until the iridescent band begins to play

He's my Brandy Alexander
Always gets me into trouble
But that's another matter
Brandy Alexander
He's my Brandy Alexander
Always gets me into trouble
But that's another matter
Brandy Alexander

Though I know what I love most of him, I'm walking on needles and pins
My addiction to the worst of him
The low moon helps me sing

I'm his Brandy Alexander
Always get him into trouble
I hide that I am flattered
Brandy Alexander
I'm his Brandy Alexander
Always get him into trouble
I hide that I am flattered
Brandy Alexander

It goes down easy (Easy)
It goes down easy (Easy)
It goes down easy (Easy)
It goes down easy (Easy)
It goes down easy (Easy)
It goes down easy (Easy)
It goes down easy (Easy)
It goes down easy (Easy)

Brandy Alexander
Brandy Alexander
Brandy Alexander
Brandy Alexander

Ha...
Ha...
Ha...
Ha...

General Comment:Brandy Alexander is the name of a drink that Ron Sexsmith introduced to Fiest one night, they both got rather intoxicated and then Leslie wrote a reminiscent song about the night and the drink and then Ron was inspired and did the same. I am not sure that there is any romance in their relationship but definitely there is admiration and friendship between the two collaborators.

My Interpretation:The alcohol is a metaphor to a guy. Hes her brandy alexander. her addiction. shes in love with her best friend. Even though "he always gets me into trouble" shes attracted to it. And him to her, but she pretends it doesnt flatter her. They choose each other because "it goes down easy". They feel right together.

General Comment:They're sleeping together. She's addicted to him, and he to her, but neither will ever admit it even though they both feel it. She'd like to be the girl for him, but she will never admit it. She's walking on needles and pins- she knows she's about to fall hard. She's addicted to to worst of him- the fact that he won't admit his addiction. He always gets her into trouble- the posibility of falling face first. But he goes down easy so it continues- like Brandy Alexander.

General Comment:i might be wrong, but i read in a magazine (chart, i believe) that feist, sam roberts, and someone else (probably ron sexsmith, come to think of it) were having drinks together or summat, and sam roberts ordered a brandy alexander... feist wasn't familiar with the drink, so roberts explained and said that it could get you pretty wasted pretty fast, like you wouldn't even know what hit you... and brandy alexander, the song, was born.

like i said, i might be wrong, but i thought that was cool because it's like in the song... he's her brandy alexander... he "knocked her out", so to speak, and she didn't know what hit her, but now she can't very well go back. love it :) SO nice to sing.

    General Comment:oh my.
    where do i begin?
this song is one of the best things to ever happen to me.
    sorry for the cliché.
    but....
"my addiction to the worst of him"
that part really gets me. there is that special brand of infatuation in which one is completely aware of their "brandy alexander"'s faults. and his or her faults should be enough to drive one away.. but that just makes one want their brandy alexander even more. ahhh.
"i'd like to be the girl for him"
hasn't everyone felt like that? wanting to be THE person for someone?
    "always gets me into trouble"
    but i don't mind.

General Comment:Yes I love the Ron Sexsmith version also. Here are the lyrics for all whom care:

As I try to be the man for her
Far across the sea and land for her
The deep within my blood is sand until
I drink what makes me mad for her

    She's my Brandy Alexander
    Always gets me into trouble
    But that's another matter
    My Brandy Alexander

But do I thirst for all the worst again?
Is it my addiction to this curse within?
Silently I must confess this sin
tastes better after juice and gin

    She's my Brandy Alexander
    Always gets me into trouble
    But that's another matter
    oh that's another matter

    She's my Brandy Alexander
    Always gets me into trouble
    but that's another matter

And deep within my blood is sand until
I drink what makes me mad for her

    She's my Brandy Alexander
    Always gets me into trouble
    But that's another matter
    oh that's another matter
    (repeats)

    It goes down easy...

General Comment:Cassaroll168, i think you mean Ron Sexsmith, a fellow Canadian. and, yes, they did co-write Brandy Alexander, together. he just put his version out on his album, Exit Strategy of the Soul [2008]. very nice.

this is not the first "collaboration" with Sexsmith; she covered his Secret Heart on Let It Die [2004], a sweet song about overcoming unrequited love, which sums up how i see him, a very shy artist who truly deserves his just dues.

General Comment:Theres a song by Ron Sexton called brandy alexander but from the boy's perspective. Its not quite a cover, but has some similar lyrics. I don't know if they collaborated at all on this but it seems like something interesting to research.
