Say your name
Try to speak as clearly as you can
You know everything gets written down
Nod your head
Just in case they could be watching with their shiny satellite

[Chorus:]
I hope they cannot see
The limitless potential
Living inside of me
To murder everything
I hope they cannot see
I am the great destroyer

Turn it up
Listen to the shit they pump into
Your head
Filling you with apathy
Hold your breath
Wait until you know the time is right
On time
The end is near

[Chorus]

Befor 9\11 when they were called a sleepercell. At this time those terrorists practice in america and europe to fly a plane (turn it up (the engines)).

So he sings in theire stealth perspective while infiltrate the west by hopening not been catched by the c.i.a. (satellites) which wiretap osamas satellite fon
    at this time.

Thats theire thoughts when they were making an identification card (or maybe green card) really nervous and afraid by getting caught (in the states).

General Comment:it sucks to know that nine inch nails fans have no clue what this man is talking about.
The Great Destroyer is about the active nihilist in Trent. He's the epitomy of this. He wants to destroy the old ways of this world in which the system is "fillin it (our heads) with apathy". He is the Great Destroyer and warns us to be ware of the technologies of our era. ... "nod ur head, just incase they might be watching with their tiny satelites"... duh head.

General Comment:Has anyone looked into the reference to Ayn Rand's book, Atlas Shrugged, where the Great Destroyer was a man who went about orchestrating the downfall of the corrupt socialist system that was running our government in the early 50s?
Just saying, it's a pretty direct comparison...

General Comment:I don't think this is about any current event...

At this point in the album it appears that an alien race has taken over earth and started brainwashing the populous to protect it from itself. This song appears to be about one man that has the ability to destroy the world (presumably through nuclear weapons due to the sounds at the end of the song), and does so to avoid enslavement.

The 3 songs after this are about after the world ended.

    " Propaganda "
    hold your breath

    the end is near
" Waiting for the right time to destroy everything "

Thats what I think, it's basically taken from reality and turned into a story, sorta.

General Comment:I think this is about a member of the 'resistance' telling his/her side of the story. After that, the crazy noises could be the torture of that person after being found (hence why its crazy and just all over the place, their brain is being scrambled)

General Comment:I think this song describes his view on life and his own existence and how he believes that in a sense he is god himself or the only person that is real, i get this same impression from the song only. its describing that nothing or no one else is real.. or maybe he believes that some government or much higher authority is watching every move he makes and documenting them, its a scary self centered viewpoint that some people fall into, especially when influenced and facing drug problems... plus when one spends more time in issolation contemplating life and all the questions that bulid the foundations of it these suspicions seem to arise

General Comment:"What if he is singing from the perspective of the aliens after they have decided that enough is enough and they start destroying mankind?"

General Comment:Well, in my opinion, it's more terroristic, than about 'himself'.

General Comment:on bethehammer.net/ -- there's an entry concerning interrogation techniques, and "the great destroyer" starts with a verse about interrogation. so i think this song is written from the perspective of the angry sniper. :)
