- It’s about something like a former party girl or slut. “Fluorescent Adolescent” derives from words like “nympho” or a sexually driven young girl hence the adolescence. I feel like the song also matches up with the rest of their songs like “Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts” about young, sexually driven girls. For the intro <You used to get it in your fishnets, now you only get it in you nightdress> “it” as in dick or “you used to get it” as in “you used to have sex” in specific clothing… the clothing pieces as I imagine describe events: fishnets symbolize going out clubbing, partying, a garment for going wild. While nightdresses are like lingerie, more used in bed for the mature people- for married couples mostly (HOPEFULLY). So it’s definitely something about: used to have sex in random occasions, now you only have it in bed with your husband. <Discarded all the naughty nights for niceness, landed in a very common crisis.> so still going about the same Fluorescent Adolescent girl… she used to have naughty nights, like getting drunk and laid as I can imagine and then she got married and then discarded those nights for more pleasant events, more serious events and basically stopped her old habits. And ended up getting a common crisis… a divorce. <Everything’s in order in a black hole, nothing seems as pretty as the past though.> black hole here means nothingness. Because nothing happens in a black hole, eventless, a place with nothingness: “everything’s in order in a black hole” means all is going well (but) in a fun-less life. “Nothing seems as pretty as the past” so she thinks about her past and how pretty/fun it was and compares it to her present; it’s all well right now, but it’s not as fun as the past. <The Bloody Mary’s lacking in Tabasco, remember when you used to be a rascal?> so, there we go; she needs more spice in her drink! SHE NEEDS MORE SPICE IN HER LIFE, she remembers when she used to be a rascal/wild and free! And she just thinks of her current boring life but the Bloody Mary needs more spice! What do we add to the bloody mary when it’s boring? Tabasco! Then, in the chorus about a boy and her dreams; she’s thinking of a boy, a slag- the best she’s ever had. I imagine maybe, a playboy? And she would dream of being together and having fun with the boy? And the daft part <weren’t as daft as they seem, aren’t as daft as they seem> maybe, she’s having second choices- that the dream wasn’t so daft/stupid, maybe she can still live her dream with that boy? For the second verse about the boys being electric: c’mon why hasn’t anyone guessed? THEY’RE ELECTRIC SEX TOYS: a mecca dauber- a sex toy-shaped stationary tool! Or a betting pencil?- Just a simple, small electric sex toy? <Now when she’s told she’s gonna get it> so, she grabs her sex toys - I think. <Clinging ‘till I’m getting sentimental, said she wasn’t going but she went still> so… she was clinging to the toys and was feeling sentimental, she told herself she wasn’t about to use them but she still did. And then the Post-Chorus: “Oh Flo, where did you go” WHAT OTHER MEANING CAN THERE BE?? Flo is the name of the Fluorescent Adolescent girl or maybe they meant: FLUO short for fluorescent !! Oh, Fluo~ where did you go? So when she used the toys she suddenly asks herself where her old self went- when she was wild and free? When she was a young Fluorescent Adolescent. But idk, the band has pretty peculiar experiences (especially with ladies) judging by the lyrics of their songs, so I just try to put my point of view into theirs and see how this lyric can make sense.
