Lyrics for What I've Done as interpreted by minuteman

What I've Done Lyrics
In this farewell
There's no blood, there's no alibi
'Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth of a thousand lies
So let mercy come and wash away

What I've done, I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself and let go of what I've done

Put to rest what you thought
Of me while I clean this slate
With the hands of uncertainty
So let mercy come and wash away

What I've done, I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself, and let go of what I've done

For what I've done, I start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends, I'm forgiving

What I've done, I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become, erase myself
And let go of what I've done

What I've done
Forgiving what I've done

Hey all. I think this song is great. It is representing Linkin Parks attitude towards what Mankind has done towards its environment, as symbolised in their fantastic song clip.

"So let mercy come and wash away

What I've done"

These words are powerful in that LP are signifying regret, and asking for forgiveness. A very powerful song with a great clip to go with it. Top stuff LP!

well i hate this song and the rest of linkin parks new album although i dont think the lyrics are badly written. they made an ambiguous song which if it hadnt been for the video could be applied to lots of people's lives. however they chose to be like lots of other bands following the trend of putting shots of everyone in the world doing things to help the environment etc probably in an attempt to make people notice their video (nickelback, taking back sunday and a couple of others) and doing this they have narrowed down their song to something which they lyrics do not even really talk about. there now im done ranting

The new album leaves a lot to be desired but this song is brilliant. It basically means not to dwell on the past cause it will get you nowhere so forget about it and move on.

I think there is a touch of religion in this song - Its almost as though they are admitting the mistakes and issues that mankind has made for themselves and the world - The line "So let mercy come and wash away", is the expecting of God to come at the end of days and correct the mistakes of man - and the line And whatever pain may come -- seems like they are ready to recieve the punishment for sins and pain they have brought on the world -

When I heard the song, I thought it was about starting over and forging a new identity. But then I saw the music video, which is full of political stuff, so I don't really know what LP is trying to say with this song.

Is it about how us fatass Americans, living in luxury and getting fat should rethink our lives, because in other parts of the world, people have to live with death and starvation every day?

People the song is about moving away from your past and forgiving the sins (wrongs) that you have done. The music video really doesn't have much to do with the song. Otherwise it wouldn't have been the theme song on "Transformers".

I think this song is about God showing us mercy and forgiving us every single time we mess up in life, and all the mistakes we make over & over. God forgets about all the bad things we've done, and literally "let's go" of what we've done. He crosses out what we've become, and accepts us for who we change to be.

Amazing song, horrible album. How LP could actually release Minutes to Midnight and think they were making good music is really beyond me. Someone must have laced their pot with some PCP or something.

I think this song is about personally changing. I think it's about letting go of what you've done, admitting you're wrong, and asking Him to forgive you. That's my opinion.

From a soldier's point of view who has not even seen the video... I can tell you that this song to me is all about forgiving oneself for ________. (Whatever your crime / sin may be) Struggling with the past no more ~ laying those demons to rest that haunt us night after fucking night. Getting up, dusitng yourself off and driving the fuck on. Godspeed.

To me, this song is about redeeming yourself or who you used to be. Specifically with addiction. Some sort of addiction or traumatic event has changed your life recently and it caused you to do things that you wouldn't normally do. You are facing yourself and your fears. You fear change from what you've become, but you still want to be who you used to be because you were happier then. This is about forgiving yourself from what you've done, in hopes that you can move on and become who you used to be or who you want to be. You don't want to be in this state of mind forever, you want to erase it and get past it.

This song IS about change, but to me its more of a reminder (to those that have heard it) of what you, I, or humanity has done; bearing those sins or mistakes as a mark of shame. the line "I'm forgiving what ive done" says alot, meaning (to me) to not rely on the forgiving of others and to forgive yourself, which is the only true way to find peace for what you have done in the past whatever it may be.
