Lyrics for Illusion as interpreted by interface2x

Illusion Lyrics
I know it's hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door
Each time you get hurt, I don't want you to change
Because everyone has hopes, you're human after all
The feeling sometimes, wishing you were someone else
Feeling as though you never belong
This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy
I truly understand, Please, don't cry now

Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion trying to change you
Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion trying to change you

Being like you are
Well this is something else, who would comprehend?
But some that do, lay claim that
Divine purpose blesses them
That's not what I believe, it doesn't matter anyway
A part of your soul ties you to the next world
Or maybe to the last, I'm still not sure
What I do know is, to use the world is different
As we are to the world but, I guess you would know that

What does this song mean to me?
It means everything to me.
Since the very first time, the very first second I heard the first line the first time I heard the snippet, I felt attached to this song, every word (especially the second verse), and I can't stop listening to it. It's not a 'sad' song, it's a comforting song, and it has the most personal meaning to me out of all other VNV songs. I can't wait to hear/see it live. Tell Ronan to bring a mop, to clean up my tears. :)

It feels, to me, like an anti-suicide song, like a friend convincing something they shouldn't go through.

Actually, it made me feel glad too, even if I did have a good day.

This song makes me think of only one person. It's an absolutely amazing song, and it was embedded in me forever the moment I heard it live. The chorus makes me wistful, with almost the urge to cry and cling to that certain person.

"The feeling sometimes, wishing you were someone else
...
Feeling as though you never belong
....
The world is just illusion trying to change you"

Lovely song. I feel like it talks about people who differ for various reasons and don't fit to social cues but the whole distraction with society this brings up, is bringing them into a state of confusion, mixed feelings, wondering if they have to change or stay the way they always were. It begs them for acceptance of what they are instead of sorrow that kills you because you don't fit in a society that's here to be mean to you. I don't know whether the "please don't go, I beg you to stay" talks about a suicide or another way of leaving reality, though I'll have to think about.

hi just joined.

This song? well i feel a bit different about it.

I feel its a song about me and my wife.
I met her 30 years ago. it was heaven on earth in the beginning.
Then she got ill. a terrible disease on the brain afflicted her.
Now in the present she is in and out of Psychic hospitals
fighting her schizophrenia.
Thats what i feel when i hear this song, my love for her and the things that goes around in her head.

Twisted? maybe
but we all hear differnt things.

I love this song. It reminds me of a conversation I had with someone very close to me, who essentially said everything that's in this song. Now I can't hear it without crying. It will forver be assosciated with this person. I love this song, and I love him.

this sond.. one is so comforting.. to me its about love.. unconditional acceptance.. "To thine known self be true"... its about a moment I had with my wife... you see where we live our faith is not accepted.. and is looked down about..

I shared this song with her today.. and niether one of us could stop from crying.. we spent the whole day taking in the world in all its beauty.. it inspired a perfect day for us..

Its a love song to me. Just so deep. Hard to verbalize how this song makes me feel.. and its right after "secluded spaces" ... perfection.. VnV at their best...

just makes me long to kiss my love..

no matter how hard life hits you, you have to get back up and keep going. Sometimes it sucks, and you really dont want to. You want to hate everyone, kill as many as possible before they take you down. But you cant, you gotta keep moving, keep being true to who you are, and hopefully one day someone will realize how perfect you are.

I do like the lyrics. I like the meaning in the song, he's trying to comfort someone who is sad and who wants to withdraw from reality. Accept that the world is an illusion and there is no reason to withdraw.

But I must say that the lyrics are also technically not so good. They don't really fit the song (too many syllables here and there).

Nevertheless, Ronan is a very good poet.

laurelinwyntre - that is EXACTLY what I think is meant by the 'illusion' in this song.

I still think the second verse is the key to this song.

I don't think the person in the song wants to withdraw from reality. I think they experience reality in a different way than most people, and live in a reality that is different from most people - which makes them feel out of place just about everywhere they go. I don't mean another reality, as in some kind of delusional level, but more on a different spiritual level than the one most of us are used to Apparently Ronan relates to this person, as in 'to us the world is different, as we are to the world'. I think the person in this song was at a very desperate time in their life where there was really no one who could understand what they were going through, so this was his way of comforting them, as best as he could, while at the same time, making the lyrics so that other listeners could relate to them.

oh...Optimus6128...

I do think the "please don't go, I want you to stay" is referring to leaving *this* physical reality (which is illusion) in some other way, not suicide. I'm glad you came to consider this in your interpretation...I really like your insight posted here. I think you are very close to the true meaning...

"this world is just Illusion trying to change you"

Worlds of Exile and Illusion is also a science fiction written by  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursula_K._Le_Guin

Consider these other lines from the Judgement album in relation to Ursula's book titles:

The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia

"a place Dispossessed of any sanity"
Descent, VNV Nation

The Farthest Shore

"to reach The Farthest Star"
-The Farthest Star, VNV Nation

laurelinwyntre - did you copy and paste that from the Weltfunk forums? Someone posted almost the exact points a long time ago over there. Anyway....
Interestingly, "Worlds of Exile and Illusion" involves telepathic communication. How ironic. Although I don't think anyone other than a few people I know, see what I see in the song Ilusion...

This song actually makes me cry. It means so much to me. It's almost as if they're singing to me in the sense that I do feel like I don't belong, and I am a bitter person because of how I've been hurt over the years. It makes me feel comforted that someone else I've never met knows how I feel and how to make me feel less alone. It also makes me feel vindicated in that I do feel spiritually Im on a different level, and that I see and understand things others don't. This makes me feel out of place often and like I can never open up or attach to anyone else.

It also makes me think of my first love, whom I lost five and a half years ago and still grieve over. What i wish I could've said, could've shown her. Thank you Ronan, for making me cry, for release, and for feeling loved and understood.

This song lyrics make me so sad and happy at the same time, they're like an expression of my feelings said by someone else, it's strangely comfortable to know that he and I are passing through the same situation, but at the same time it reminds me that longevity will keep us away, it's like trying to clear your view from the illusion you are trying to believe yourself, it's like there's a part of us that wants to be together but it's not more than an illusion.
I really like VNV nation lyrics they have this kind of special element that makes me feel so comforted by reality and I find them always very adaptable to any context I'm into, I always find them really inspiring but always so depressive, this songs represents that merging of feelings very properly. -cries-laughs-

This is a great song. I stumbled upon it mostly by accident.

Everyone has a desire to kind of fit in. Being kind of shy, lonely introvert, I've had this feeling a lot in my life, a kind of frustration to simply fit in like everyone else. It truly helps to have friends who encourage you to be yourself, like the narrator sings in this song.

This song is also so great to me because it's simple. There's no definite rhyme scheme or colorful language. It's just one simple man pouring out his heart with the best words he can.
