My moon, my man's a changeable land
Such a lovable land to me
My care, my co-lead barber I know
There's nowhere to go but up

How on my sleeve my beggar should be
The song's out of key again
My fools, my things
We're digging the things
If the candlelit page again

Take it slow
Take it easy on me
Shed some light
Shed some light on things
Take it slow
Take it easy on me
Shed some light
Shed some light on things

My moon and me
Not as good as we've been
It's the dirtiest clean I know
My care, my co-lead barber I know
There's nowhere to go
There's nowhere to go

Take it slow
Take it easy on me
Shed some light
Shed some light on things
Take it slow
Take it easy on me
Shed some light
Shed some light on things

My moon
The moon my man
My moon
The moon my man

My Interpretation:i'm just going to put out my interpretation, i could be wrong but this is how i like to think of this song. also, are these the correct lyrics, because i've ran into different ones...which are the ones i'll be doing my interpretation from.

My moon, my man So changeable and Such a lovable lamb to me -

the moon is personified as a female, it represents change, growth and decay. It is the biggest object in the night and often associated with magic, So this verse to me is saying this relationship has grown but is also filled with a lot of troubles, her moon ia a huge part in her life, and he's changed a lot since they've met which maybe she's weary of, but he's stil very lovey to her.

My care, my coat Leave on a high note There's nowhere to go but up-

She cares so much for him, but needs time away, they leave eachother on a high note, she thinks this time may fix things, things will go up and not down hill from here.

Heart on my sleeve Not where it should be The song's out of key again-

She gives her full attention to him, her heart is on her sleeve still, all though it's not where it should be since they've hit another rough patch

My moon's white face What they're gonna face? It's the calendar page again-

i think this is just describing the man, his white face, and maybe she's wondering what's comming next, what people are thinking. the calender page to me means a few different things, maybe it's an annerversery, or time has slipped away...

Take it slow, take it easy on me Shed some light Shed some light on me, please
Take it slow, take it easy on me Shed some light Shed some light on me, please -

The man has changed a lot since they've left and more since she took time away, she's not getting used to the change, wants it to slow down. She wants things back to how they were origionally, she wants a life with his lights, i like the "shed some light one me please" because it makes you think of the moon...

My moon and me Not as good as we've been It's the dirtiest clean I know -

her and her man aren't doing as well as they've ever been, but when it's good it's good, when it's bad it's bad..

My care, my coat Leave on a high note There's nowhere to go There's nowhere to go-

same as before but she isn't leaving, he's the one she wants, she wanta to be there with him

Take it slow, take it easy on me Shed some light Shed some light on me, please
Take it slow, take it easy on me Shed some light Shed some light on me, please

My moon, my moon, my man My moon, my moon, my man My moon, my moon, my man My moon, my moon, my man

General Comment:I don't believe this is a song about a bad or failed relationship. I think it is about the usual ups and downs that couples go through when they are trying to make it work.
"My care my coat, leave on a high note, there is no where to go but on..." This leaves me picturing a couple; they are in love and fighting, she leaves the house to get away for awhile but not on a bad note, because there is no where to go. No where she would rather be. But like all relationships with ups and downs, you need space to be your own person.
"Heart on my sleeve, not where it should be, the song's out of key again..." It's quite scary falling in love and committing to someone else, your heart on your sleeve leaves you extremely vulnerable. As an individual it is not easy to depend on someone else so completely. There is no wonder why she is struggling with the relationship, but also no hint that she wants to end the relationship.
"My moon and me, not as good as we've been, it's the dirtiest clean I know..." She loves her man. It's my moon, my man: two different entities. She watches the calendar, implying it is a long term relationship, seeing the changes they go through and telling him to "take it easy on me." Compromises need to be coming from both sides so her man needs to "shed some light" on her and make her feel the love. Relationships with never be perfect at all times, it is a song about getting through those though times.

BUT HEY! analyzing other's art is a beautiful thing because we all take our own experiences into their words. If we can relate a song to ourselves and bring our own meaning to someone else's lyrics then the artist did the job right. Good art is timeless, anyone at anytime can bring their own life directly into someone else's song and define it according to them at the moment. So, for all the anal sex people; niiiiiiice.

General Comment:Personally, i feel that the moon in this song, is both describing this man, and is a metaphor for how he is only revealing part of himself to her (much like the moon which faces away from the Earth). Also, i think that she feels frustrated because however hard she tries she will never be able to see what she really wants to see. This could also mean that he is shedding light on other things as opposed to devoting himself fully to her (i.e he has been cheating)

This also ties in with how her heart is on her sleeve, meaning that she is forever waiting and perhaps even pleading for him to open up to her, whilst he simply tells her what he thinks she wants to hear. This thesis obviously relates to the correct lyrics that are later on from the other lyrics.

I love this song because i can relate to it completely. Well-done Feist!

General Comment:it could be about the relationship between a werewolf and the moon hahaha i doubt that is what she was trying to get across but the werewolf is the singer and it is asking for the moon not to be full

General Comment:It's about a relationship and how it plays with her emotions. Probably an affair.

General Comment:Seriously, you guys? I won't even address the nonsense.

I can only see two directions this could go. Maybe she is not talking about a relationship at all, but she is just talking about herself, the world, passage of time. "My moon, my man", maybe she's just talking to the moon, personifying it.

Either that or she could be comparing her man to the moon, because he is going through a lot of changes.

She wants either the world or her man to take it easy on her.

General Comment:Anal sex? Some of you like to read into one individual line way too much.

The song is obviously about an abusive relationship.

    Take it slow
    Take it easy on me
    And shed some light
Shed some light on me please

She is saying for him to take it easy on her in reference to the physical abuse. She is asking him to "shed some light" as to what she did to deserve this.

    My moon and me
Not as good as we've been
It's the dirtiest clean I know

The relationship started out good, but at some point turned abusive. She feels shame, but this type of relationship is all she knows.

    My care, my coat
    Leave on a high note
    There's nowhere to go
    There's nowhere to go

She knows she needs to leave, but feels as though she has no place to go.

General Comment:Okay, first of all, anyone who is an actual fan of Feist, knows she would never sing about something as crude as Anal sex. Really? I believe this song is mainly about running away from every relationship, perhaps one night stands? Or, another part of me wants to believe that this is about an abusive relationship.

'My care, my coat, leave on a high note, theres nowhere to go but on' is one line that supports this, as all she has is herself and her coat, leaves the man on a high note before moving on. It could also mean That her care for the abusive man has left, as she leaves with her coat to move on.

'Heart is on my sleeve, not where it should be, the song's out of key, again' Think about that, 'Heart on my sleeve' means she open and let's everything show. She's an emotional wreck, and it's obvious, where as she needs it to be strong and where it should be. 'Songs out of key, again' meaning shes out of order, and shes done it again.

'My moons white face, what're they gonna face? It's the calender page, again' is sorta difficult, but I suppose it means that she has many different faces, as they change like the moons cycle, and the men shes been in a relationship must walk on eggshells, or something like that. 'It's the calender page, again' also supports the 'different faces' type of deal. The line could also mean that she goes through men as the moon goes through its cycle, and their just a little part of her calender.

'Take it slow, take it easy on me. Shed some light, shed some light on me please' Now, the moon could be the symbol of light for her, as shes in total darkness and needs the moon to shed some light on her. Whatever the moon is, it could be the literal moon as she walks away from relationships, or a man thats most likely been with her throughout all these ordeals.

'My moon and me, not as good as can be, it's the dirtiest clean I know' could mean that things are still at a bad note, and it's the 'dirtiest clean'. Or, by this time, she could mean that their still together but both are doing wrongs.

'My moon, my man' could mean several different things. Perhaps the moon means that her man is her rock, and is with her during tough ordeals?

Not all of it really comes together to make sense, but that is what I got from this song.
