  My Opinion:I agree that with buriedalivebylove and innocent_sheep on what this song means.
  I love this song 100%, I've been listening to them since I was born (1996)(= && I know all of their songs by heart<3
  It stinks, but I must agree that I can relate to this song in both ways. I'm a girl, and I do like misterioous, dangerous, badass guys more than the nice innocent ones.
  foolish.heart, sometimes its not that we go after what we can't have, or that we like jerks. For me it's that I'm more attracted to them lookwise. I would love a guy who looks badass but is really very sweet.
  && It's the same thing with guys. Guys like girls that are mean, bitches, and whores.
  They pay no attention to the nice, innocent one (even though those have better bodies than the whores sometimes)
  So this goes both ways.

  My Opinion:I'm so sick of dealing with girls like the ones in this song. I just dated a girl for like 2 weeks who decided to break up with me (and lied to me about the reason to make herself seem like a good person), and now she's dating this shit head who she's said before is an asshole. I knew it would start going downhill when she told me "nobody has ever treated me as good as you," so now I gotta do like Joel says and break apart her heart. The only difference between me and Joel is that I'm doing it just for the sake of breaking her heart, not to get her back

  General Comment:The song is basically a message from Good Charlotte about how messed up our society has become. Instead of appreciating really good, loyal people we flock to the ones that are either emotionally or physically unattainable. They are basically making a comment on how sad it is that it has to come to this, but there really seems to be no other way nowdays. At the end he is just saying, "can't you see what thinking like this did to me, I'm starting to think and act like that as well". You can tell they are incredibly dissaproving of this, but admit that they too are falling into this routine of breaking hearts.

  General Comment:The song to me is dealing with two types of guys. You have the nice one who'd love the girl without hurting her. But the girl doesn't want to be with him because she knows she can have him. Then you have the other guy who doesn't care that she's the girl he's with. She doesn't have him. So basically it's like a challege. He basically breaks her down. Until she can't want to be with anyone else but him. Joel sings that he doesn't want to understand this, because it's horrible, and shouldn't be that way. The girl shouldn've have to be broken down like that. The nice guy is doing what he does, but isn't getting the girl. Joel also doesn't want to understand that. Because good should beat evil. The girl is sad but also trying to be what the mean guy wants her to be. He doesn't give her what she deserves, because she isn't broken yet. Because she's not completely worthless to others, he can't give her what she wants. The nice guy knows now what is happening. The girl only cares about the chase.

  General Comment:Ah - story of my life for the last year! Easy is just not for everyone. Hard to get, not yours for the taking, having to bust your hump to get their attention. Oh - ya, as soon as I was available to her, she got bored and left. This song holds truth for many! Character quality comes to mind. ultima and blackjackd89 have the target in-sight.

  Of course some girls are like this. But if they are ... they're being kind of a bitch.
  Guys, you don't need to act like a jerk to get her attention. If you do, and I'm not trying to sound too mean, she's not worth it.
  There are PLENTY of girls who actually appreciate the sweet guys who give them attention.
  
  This is a great song though, lol. I think it's also about being bitter that this girl burned him, the sweet guy, so he's saying apparently you have to be a jerk to get the girl.

  General Comment:Basically, this song means a girl will not be interested in you if your the nice guy. She knows she already has got you, theres no more fun in it. She controls you. Girls are always going to want what they cant have. To keep her, you've got to break her heart.

So Hes Saying You Cant Keep A Girl By Being A Good Boyfriend And You Have To Break Her Heart To Keep Her For As Long As You Live. You Have To Keep Her Trying. For Example .... You Tell Her You Dont Want Her. (REVERSE Psychology *What You Cant Have You Want More*) So If She Dont Think He Wants Her. She Will Want Him That Much More.

  A girl thinks she loves a guy and refuses to accept the fact that he's a complete jerk. It's kinda like he's trying to get rid of her while she's trying her hardest to somehow make him love her the way she loves him. The truth of it is, that guys can tear a girls heart to shreds but the girl will be so lovesick that she forgive and forget in an instant and never cease in trying to gain it all back.
  
  I bet everyone can relate somehow to this song...the situation is happening constantly.
