He knew what he wanted to say
But he did not want to word it
The dirty little Herbert
Was thinking an escape
But the place was well guarded
The guiltiness that started
Soon as the other part had stopped

D is for delightful
And try and keep your trousers on
I think you should know you're his favorite worst nightmare

D is for desperately trying to simulate what it was that was all right
Three quarters of an hour ago
That led him to be in a position
And every copper mission
On every other episode

He's nearing the brink, but he thinks first
The parallel universe perhaps could be the perfect scene
He's nearing the brink, but he thinks first
The parallel universe perhaps could be the perfect scene
He's nearing the brink, but he thinks first
The parallel universe perhaps could be the perfect scene
He's nearing the brink, but he thinks first
The parallel...
I think you should know you're his favorite worst nightmare

D is for delightful
And try and keep your trousers on

You should know you're his favorite worst nightmare

General Comment:LizzIKLEZ is spot on. It's about a guy cheating...

    "The Guiltiness That Started
Soon as the other part had stopped" the 'other part' is the sex.

General Comment:Dudes.... I'm embarrassed I got this so fast. It's about his dick. Listen again. The dirty little Herbert was trying to escape his pants. He's trying to do the right thing but his his favorite worst nightmare won't let him. D is for.....

General Comment:Its 'simulate' .. it makes loads more sense, "desperately trying to show/imitate what it was that was alright.."

General Comment:I think it's about a man and a woman too. Most Arctic Monkeys songs tend to be about relationships. But they're not the only band that uses words like "guiltiness." I mean, it's the title of one of Bob Marley's songs. And if it wasn't for the said "poor English," there would be no rhythm. Don't you think that's the purpose of using words like "compromission?" The beat wouldn't be the same unless that many syllables were used. Thanks for doing your reasearch, skttrbrain.

General Comment:My fave line: "He's nearing the brink but he thinks first/The parallel universe perhaps could be the perfect scene"

It sounds like a suicide attempt to me... He's going towards the brink but he doubts... and "the parallel universe" might mean the afterlife, someplace else.

I love that little twist when it goes "The parallel... I THINK YOU SHOULD KNOW YOU'RE HIS FAVOURITE WORST NIGHTMARE"

I looove it, it gets me every time.

General Comment:I asbsolutely love this song, definitely one of their best.

I'm pretty sure this song is about a guy cheating on his girlfriend, and he wants to tell her, but he doesnt know how and he'd enjoying his relationship on the side too much.

Favourite Worst Nightmare, he's talking about the situation he's in. he's his own favourite worst nightmare. because its his worst nightmare, he hates doing it, but he loves it at the same time.

He wants to tell her "he knew what he wanted to say" but he wants to keep both relationships and doesnt know how to tell her "but he did not want to word her"

AM are being sarcastic and partonizing towards him
"try and keep your trousers on" saying he cant control himself.

"position" has a double meaning. As in, the position he's in with the relationships, and also sexually speaking, as in he was in som crazy position a short while ago.

the guiltiness had started, well, speaks for itself, as soon as the other part had stopped

    well.. innuendo really ;)

he thinks that maybe, in another world, or a "parallel universe" it wouldnt matter if this was happening, and it was what was MEANT to happen etc etc.
    love this song :)

General Comment:This is supposedly about something that isn't good for you, but you're addicted to it anywho. like, cigarettes, drugs, gambling, etc. This particular one (as stated in an interview) is about a girl. He just realized she as bad for him, so he wants to escape. but then he decides against it..."Desperately trying to stimulate what it was that was alright
Three quarters of an hour ago"
then "That had led him to be in a position
    And every copper mission
On every other episode" he goes back thinking it will be all right, but it just goes back to something terrible again. :(

brilliant song, really. I love it!

General Comment:listening to this song even the first time i thought sexuality was involved, so i went to look at the lyrics and listened to the song at the same time and i thought of a one night stand.

    "The guiltiness that started
Soon as the other part had stopped"

made me think of after the one night stand the desire to get out of there as fast as you can. maybe not being so drunk anymore and realizing it was a mistake.

"Desperately trying to stimulate what it was that was alright
Three quarters of an hour ago"

maybe its too out right stated but i thought orgasm, and just being turned off all of a sudden, which accounts for him wanting to leave, but not being able to and her just trying to make something out of nothing.

"He's nearing the brink but he thinks first
The parallel universe perhaps could be the perfect scene"

again that made me think orgasm. and that he isnt really interested, but he wants to escape so hes trying to decide which escape to take.

maybe i just interpreted this competely wrong to you, but i like that idea.
