    My Interpretation:it may actually be about a miscarriage. i always thought it was about a relationship ending. "and you may think you lost it" meaning your lover's love or maybe your sense of self or entitlement.

    When I heard about this song, I thought it was about abortion too.
    I wonder who they are talking about???? Did it happen to them or to a friend of theirs??
    Annie is the only one that I know who is married... interesting...

    I like this song even though it's a sad topic. Reflection.
    The beat/melody is fun.

    General Comment:beyoncefan, you're on a right track but I really think it's more about miscarriage than abortion, there's nothing about the narrator having any choice in the matter. There's a line we have the choice to breathe" but i think it's about moving on, not giving up. Moreover, about the person she's singing to:
    And when the doctor called it off

    He doesn't seem happy about it, does he?
