Etceteranough
Etceteranough
Etceteranough
Etceteranough
Etceteranough
Etceteranough
Etceteranough
Etceteranough

Fire it up, fire it up
When we finally turn it over
Make a beeline towards the boat or
Have a drink, you've had enough

Fire it up, fire it up
If you need some conversation
Bring a magazine to read around
Our broke down transportation

Fire it up
Is there enough?
Is there enough?
Is there enough?

Fire it up, fire it up
When we fine the perfect water
We'll hang out on the shore
Just long enough to leave our clothes there

Fine enough, fine enough
Oh, we ate all of the oranges
Off the navels of our lovers
Grabbed a book and read the cover

It honestly was beautifully done
Like trying to hide the daylight from the sun
But even if we had been sure enough, it's true, we really didn't know
Even if we knew which way to head, but, still, we probably wouldn't go

Fire it up, fire it up
We pushed off, we're rolling boulders
Crashing down the mirrored stairways
To a blast basement canaries

Fire it up, fire it up
When we fix the carburetor
Then we'll push off once again
In an hour or so later

It honestly was beautifully bold
Like trying to save an ice cube from the cold
But even if we had been sure enough, it's true, we really didn't know
Even if we knew which way to head, but, still, we probably wouldn't go

Well we always
Well we always
Had it all
Had it all
Had it all
Well we always
Well we always
Had it all
Had it all
Had it all
Well we always
Well we always
Had it all
Had it all
Had it all

My Interpretation:"When we finally turn it over
Make a beeline towards the boat or
Have a drink, you've had enough"

To me, it feels like this is just describing how both young and old contribute to communities, companies, things such as that, to create something good for everyone, and afterwards the young inherit it and the old or tired retire.

"When we find the perfect water
We'll hang out on the shore
Just long enough to leave our clothes there"

These people building the community find a nice, quiet spot with a pretty landscape and nearby rivers, etc. They build houses and such, and become accustomed to their small-town life.

"Oh, we ate all of the oranges
Off the navels of our lovers
Grabbed a book and read the cover"

These people, now no longer having to put in a serious effort to survive, spoil themselves with materialism and things that come easy to them rather than concern themselves with learning or understanding conflicts outside of their own lives.

The rest of the song makes me think of the next generation beginning their own legacy, becoming adjusted to that, and then spawning their own kids who will create yet another legacy. Essentially about making achievements when young, settling down when old, and accepting what the new youth has in store.

My Opinion:I love love love Modest Mouse <3
    Simply amazing vocals.
    - Just one comment thought, why does the beginning lyrics say "etceteranough" when it sounds exactly the same when it's written "is there enough?"

General Comment:I always thought this was about smoking free-base or crack. "is there enough," crackheads are always worried about running out of rocks. "Rolling Boulders" = crack rocks. "Two of life's best mine canaries:" these guys hang in dark closets smoking crack. Boom, that-just-happenned...

Song Meaning:I don't know what etceteranough means, or why the singer made it up..but to me, the song is pretty obviously about a guy on a road trip, with some friends and accounts of things he did on the trip "Make a beeline towards the border Have a drink, you've had enough" the drink part could refer to him and his friends having had enough of reality and thus drinking. the ice cube and suin thing could mean that their quest is fueled simply by dreams and futility and there's no point to it, as there's no point to saving an ice cube, etc.

Also, whoever said the rolling boulder/tire/acid thing is an idiot....

General Comment:maybe part of this song is about letting things that are supposed to happen, happen.

"Like trying to save an ice cube from the cold"

you can save it with heat, which will ruin the ice cube anyways, or you can just let it melt. Weather you do something about it or not, the icecube WILL STILL MELT. Just let it happen.
