She opened her pocket,
and showed me her stash.
A stash of cash and flesh,
for a rainy day.
She said there might come a day,
when you just got nothing to say.
Nothing to think.
There is nothing left to drink.
Nothing to eat.
You'd be your own peice of meat.

And no one can take that away, from you, no one can take that away, that away, that away from you.
No one can take that away from you, no one can take that away, that away, that away from you.

No one

Tell me what you told me again
and I might believe you next time.
Maybe give it another try.
I'll open my pocket,
and show you my stash.
A small stash of cash and flesh,
to save for a rainy day.
Save for a rainy day.
I've got nothing to say.
And no one can take that away from me,
no one can take that away, that away, that away, from me.
no one can take that away from me,
no one can take that away, that away, that away, from me.

No one

General Comment:The prostitute thing fits, but I take the more general meaning of "no one can take away your livelihood". Beautiful song.

General Comment:I kind of think that this song is about prostitution. I think the beginning, it's somebody kind of looking down at the life, until they're in that situation. Then, when they have nothing left, that's what they turn to. "No one can take that away" I think is kind of a defensive thing, and her holding onto to some sort of control over herself.

Maybe I'm half a sleep and reading too far into it.

General Comment:my initial reaction to this song was that it was about a prostitute.

General Comment:i dont necessarily think it's about a prostitute, although it is plausible. i do agree with what everyone's said about being dependent on yourself. i really like how in the second verse she is so unaffected by the other person, "I might believe you next time, maybe give it another try" it's always her choice, she makes the changes.
her beatboxing at the end is lovely, it's so good without accompaniment.

General Comment:Sorry I didn't write this before, but when she says "you'll be your own piece of meat", she is longing for the day when she's well-off enough to be in control of her own body, instead of having it in someone else's control.

General Comment:I think this is about a prostitute who, although she has given her body to so many people to use, recognizes that she still has secrets and memories that cannot be taken away from her/used by someone else. It's about finding something personal in yourself that cannot be disturbed, no matter how degraded and/or used you feel.

General Comment:This song always makes me feel better... I think it's about relationships with people, not even romantic ones necessarily. You come to depend on that person for a certain level of security, but sometimes things may fall through and you lose that person. The stash is preparation for when that day comes. I always thought the message was to like yourself more, get to know yourself like you know your loved ones, so even on your worst days you'll never be lonely.

General Comment:I agree too. this is a truly beautiful song.

i think tis song means that you have to prepare for life and for bad times,
"She said there might come a day,
when you just got nothing to say.
    Nothing to think.
There is nothing left to drink.
    Nothing to eat.",
because then you can only count on yourself,
"You'd be your own peice of meat."
and if you really prepare and get ready for what may come then that is something that no one can take away from you.
