One at a time,
Constants becomes surreal.
One at a time,
Heart attacks
are concealed.
I can see that I
Lose the joys of life.
One at a time
Suicides are revealed.
You will see that I
lost another life.
But tonight,

I'll let you tear it up.
If you don't wake me up.
But if you tear it,
We can't repair it.
So please don't wake me
till someone cares.
Now no one cares.

One at a time
I watch them all forget.
One at a time
I'm lost in little deaths.
It's the place that I
I forget my life.
Like tonight.

I'll let you tear it up.
If you don't wake me up.
But if you tear it,
We can't repair it.
So please don't wake me
till someone cares.
Now no one cares.

Will the flood behind me
Put out the fire inside me?
Will the flood behind me
Put out the fire inside me?

I'll let you tear it up.
Oh Oh Oh
I'll let you break it up.
Oh Oh Oh
If you don't wake me up.
Oh Oh Oh
But if you tear it,
Oh Oh Oh
We can't repair it.
Oh Oh Oh
So please don't wake me.
Oh Oh Oh
Till someone cares.
Now no one cares...cares.

I'll let you tear it up.
If you don't wake me up.
Cause it's apparent
That you don't care, and
It's sunk into me,
Because I don't care
Now no one cares

General Comment:One of the beautiful things about AFI songs is the ambiguity, that you can make it fit how you need it to fit and there's no right or wrong answer.

To me, this song is about a person who is so trapped within themselves that they're coasting through life on automatic pilot. A person who feels forgotten by the world, and to avoid the pain associated in to the slow decent in to obscurity has decided to stop feeling until someone comes along that changes the status quo. The line "I'll let you tear it up if you don't wake me up, cuz if you tear it we can't repair it" means, to me, that you can have my body as long as you don't wake me emotionally... because if you do that, I may not be able to go back to the world of no feeling... which is why the line "So please don't wake me until someone cares."

Particulary loaded is the line "Will the flood behind me put out the fire inside me?" This is an obvious reference to the band's name, but more so it speaks of the spark of hope inside everyone that everything can't feel this awful all the time... but when there's this huge mound of shit building behind you it starts to feel like maybe that fire of hope is going to be extingished.

General Comment:Well, the comment made by Metaddica about how davey said this was a song dedicated to a city that has done alot for music, i pretty much can guess now what this song is about.
New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina. It talks about how "ill let you tear it up" meaning the weakness of the levees were not strong enough to hold up to the force of the hurricane, so they were basically letting the storm tear up the city. And how no one cared after the hurricane about New Orleans, they were just a bunch of little deaths, nothing important. Describing the way bush and FEMA didnt do much for them after it happened. And then it says "will the flood behind me put out the fire inside me" describing that will the flooded city of New orleans, the flooding of everything and everyone, put out the fire and the anger they have for no one doing anything about their tragedy.

    Anyways..just my take on it..

General Comment:like someone else said before, to me this song is about nothing else than depression. pretty much all the symptoms are there: all the joys of life are lost, constants become surreal, life becomes blurry, just wanting to sleep, not caring about anything, feeling like no-one understands, those little deaths, well I can't explain it but I feel them during my days and they ain't orgasms for me :) and feeling like the illness puts out the fire inside of you.

This is what it means to me.

General Comment:Ha... :) I think I have to agree with the mean boy here. This site doesn't exist so that little girls could discuss about who's hot and who's not. It's songmeanings, you know...
I know I've posted a lot of shitty comments myself too, but at least I'm not going around calling blond guys (whos names I don't know) hot.

General Comment:I wouldn't call her a fan, personally.

If you don't know the lead/rythym guitarists' name then they shouldn't be able to be called a fan.

    That's just my opinion.

General Comment:I disagree. I believe this song is about our unfortunate generation. Although, kjarkas point of view is understandable.

oh, and ShyBoysWinXO? I'm pretty sure Davey wouldn't take a liking to you putting down fans of his.
Maybe think about that before you're rude to somene who enjoys the music just as you do.

General Comment:To what sk8ordie1990 said, I think it makes sense because anyone can have their own interpretation.

Davey and the rest of the band is definitely wondering if people's slander and other put downs will extinguish their fame. On the other hand, Davey seems to have the drive to do anything to maintain his glory and repuation, if you interpret "Miss Murder" that way.

I don't think they'll ever fade, however. Their fans have faith in them, and they will always be behind AFI.

General Comment:Until i read these reviews i THOUGHT i had a good i dea of what it was about, but now i realize that ersatzaxiom must be right...

however in addition to the thoughts ersatzaxiom had, id like to say that when it says "will the flood behind me, put out the fire inside me could possibly mean, will the flood, being used in reference to a cumulative mass of talk about the band, eventually put out the fire insde me, or afi.. i think he is asking, will this talk eventually drown afi out and end afi as a band...

does this make sense? please, tell me what you think, this is my first comment..

General Comment:i think this is a song to all those "fans" that put down AFI for being famous. He's saying i'll let you tear it up, as in put down the band but don't bother him with it because he doesnt care, because he knows the real fans will stay behind them. And hes hoping this flood of fame won't put out his fire, but if these people finally tear the band with slander they can't repair it. He did an interview for our local radio and talked about how any fans that would put them down for finally making it aren't real fans, "Cause it's apparent, that you don't care"
