Lyrics for McFearless as interpreted by Razorlight16

McFearless Lyrics
Strain, living with a name
They get the best of me
But I'm no walker away
No complaint
I got much to gain
So they keep testing me
And I keep feeding their face

They could go off
And hit the road
And what would I care
Hell I ain’t goin nowhere
I got the reigns
And courage I was made of
And they've got fake love

So I know I must show
It’s my show
I must go
With my soul
Not my hand
Where I stand
It’s my role
It’s my soul

Pearls and necklaces and girls
And all the pretty things
I ain’t seekin to have
It’s safe to say
If I don’t get this out of me
I might quite easily
End up dead or just mad

Cross my “T’’s
Try to dot my “I”’s
But that’s just blinding me
I ain’t livin that way
I roll my sleeves
And make a better man of me or
I might easily just give up on this show

It’s my show
It’s my show
I must go
With my soul
Not my hand
Where I stand
It’s my role
It’s my show

I must show
It’s my show
I must go
With my soul
Not my hand
Where I stand
It’s my role
It’s my show

It’s my show
It’s my show

Good try on the lyrics but there are a couple of them off. I would list them but as i listen to kings i grow less sober by the second...

i think this song is about needing to have the release of energy that you get from playing a live show. And how it is so personal but you have to show it to everyone there. Like the show must go on kind of thing. And how being a musician is not only his job or role but it is in his soul to do this.

Some of the lyrics make me think that everyone around him is putting a ton of pressure on him and watching his every move and trying to keep him down, but no matter how much they screw him over he's going to do what he's destined to do just so he can prove them wrong. Just by showing up and doing this deed, this show, he'll get his revenge.

The correct lyrics are:

"Strain living with a name,
They get the best of me,
But I'm no walker away,
No complaint,
I got much to gain,
So they keep testing me,
And I keep feeding their face

They could go,
Off and hit the road,
And what would I care?
Hell, I ain't going nowhere
I got the reigns
And courage I was made of
And they've got fake love,
So I must show

It's my show,
I must go
With my soul,
Not my hand,
Where I stand
It's my role,
It's my soul

Pearls and necklaces,
And girls and all the pretty things,
I ain't seeking to have,
It's safe to say if I don't get this out of me,
I might quite easily,
End up dead or just mad,
Cross my t's and try to dot my i's,
But that's just blinding me,
And I ain't living that way,
I roll my sleeves to make a better man of me,
Or i might easily,
Just give up on this show

It's my show,
I must go
With my soul,
Not my hand,
Where I stand,
It's my role,
It's my show

The actual lyrics are:

Strain living with a name
They get the best of me
But I'mma walk away
I don't complain
I got much to gain
so then you pester me
And I keep feeding their face
but they go
walk and hit the road
What would I care?
hell i aint going nowhere
I got the reigns
and courage i was made of
and they've got fake love

So I know I must show
it's my show
I must go
With my soul
not my hand
Where I stand
It's my role
It's my soul

Pearls and necklaces on girls
and all the pretty things
i ain't seeking to have a safety say
if i don't get this out of me
i might quite easily
end up dead or just mad
cross my t's and try to dot my i's
but now she's blinding me
and i aint living that way
i roll my sleeves to make a better man of me
or i might easily

just give up on this show
It's my show
I must go
With my soul
not my hand
Where I stand
It's my role
It's my show

It's my show [2x]

Sick song, i read this on a web page, some type of review on the album, which praises the crap outa them, rightly."Without a doubt though is the musicianship of the boys, most obvious on the unfortunately named ‘McFearless’ which presents Kings Of Leon on Acid, combining a ravaging wah-wah driven riff and Chemical Brothers tub-thumping with a desperate vocal"

This song makes me think of living up to expectations.
Everyone has this idea of what they want for the Kings.
But they don't want to be anyones puppet.
They want their own stuff. To be their own people.

I agree with you kissthesestars. Caleb's pretty much saying that people are doubting them and each time he keeps proving them wrong and sometimes it gets to be too much but he just rolls up sleeves and deals with it because he's "mcfearless."

I have a different interpretation to what has been said above. I believe there are strong sexual references throughout the song in particular the line 'pearl and necklaces and girls' a rather vulgar lyric if interpreted in this context. I think that the song is about their growing disillusion with the groupies and constant promiscuity that comes with touring. There is a pressure to perform (their 'show'), to please these girls that throw themselves at them the 'fake love'. Caleb though wants to escape from this cycle, he feels the 'strain' and worried he may end up dead or just mad.

Would appreciate any responses

I can't believe no one has picked up on this ideal yet. I think KOL is telling a tale of a man that is courageuous enough to live his life, against all odds, the way he sees fit. In this way it makes him "McFearless" enough to live. The chorus strongly supports this saying that he can't be judged by his "hand/where I stand" but instead where he goes with his "soul" and he must fill his "role" because its his "show". Show being a metaphor for life.

I didn't pay attention to this song, and it could be because I'm really drunk right now but this song is fucking awesome! Everyone one of there songs just builds and builds to an amazing ending, the "its my show" part right towards the end is incredible. This song is an orgasm set to a melody :)

I'm pretty sure that they aren't saying McFearless too.. If you look at this video, you can see that McFearless doesnt fit it. It sounds like they are saying "And I'll stand by" or something.. Look at Nathan at 2:45.

definate reflection on his life and how music is his life as he shares his soul with the world.
i used to think the lyrics went 'strange, liveing with the fame,
i can't complain. . .' and that it was about being famous. i liked thinking that but i think it does have the same meaning. kings are unreal.

McFearless?? Is this song straight out of Greys Anatomy or something, which would be fitting seeing as both that show and this band have caused more heartache on this Earth since when Madonna said she would return to acting. This band is the epitome of crotch-jockey bullshit, in a holier than thou society which feeds off the tits of a camel to satisfy its growing urge for self truth! I believe people when they say hell exists, coz im sure a version of this song will be played in the elevator as you descend into hell, fire and damnation. This song reminds me of someone i used to know. Makes me cringe to think about them even now, which begs the question, how many Kings of Leon fans does it take to change a light bulb?? The answer, 23. 1 to change the bulb and another 22 to look through a 2 week old edition of the New York Times searching aimlessly for a positive review on this song, or a hip Andy Warhol art piece dubbed "If the world never washed itself?" with a full page spread of each of the Leon members in crazy pastel colors. In conclusion, i feel Andy Dufresne (The Shawshank Redemption 1994, Columbia Pictures) said it best "You either get busy livin', or get busy dying". And with the help of this song, you'll prey for death or a visit by "the sisters" than have to cop an audible load on the face that this song always will bring.
