Don't
Be...
Silent

Fight

(Violence, mêlées, & disturbances of the peace)

[Verse 1]
Here's your introduction to destruction
& the hate sustaining me
Are we safer or in danger?
Drowning in atrocities?
Riot gear, the slaves are here
Piling corpses high
Its the rich man's war
But its the poor that fight
More capitalist crimes,
More enemies than allies
No WMD's, who gives a fuck
If they die
Just kill em all, watch em fall
Skin the world with their lies
Its a rich man's war
But its the poor that fight

[Chorus]
Stand up
Speak out
Strike back
Stand up
Speak out
Strike back
They don't know
What they started
Confrontation

[Verse 2]
My religion of resistance
Challenging everything
Radicals & dissidents
Of creativity
We are the children
Of the siege you hide
In this rich man's war
Where the poor just die
More deception & greed
More wars & disease
More lies from the hive mind
That seek to deceive
A weak nation of need
Like silent thieves in the night
Its a rich man's war
But it's the poor that die

[Chorus]

Stand, fight
Speak, fight
Strike back!

Stand, fight
Speak, fight
Strike back!

They don't know
What they started

Confrontation

[Bridge]

This is my
Battle cry!

Defy the lies
Of the tyrant race
With a fist in the air
& a finger in their face!

Defy the tyrants!
Don't be silent!

Defy the tyrants!
Don't be silent!

Defy the tyrants!
Don't be silent!

Defy the tyrants!
Don't be silent!

[Chorus]

Stand, fight
Speak, fight
Strike back!

Stand, fight
Speak, fight
Strike back!

They don't know
What they started

Confrontation

[Outro]

There's no
Way they
Can stop us
Now

So let them try
We fight or we die

My Interpretation:I think it's a fantastic song, the anti-war sentiment cliche's are used, but beautiful arranged with flawless energy and certainty by Otep...instrumentally, it's a POWER HOUSE song which needs a vocal performance to match it...and it definitely does it...i love the change of pace of the song while maintaining a consistent build up and the layers of sound...definitely not hurt by the video...

My interpretation is that it's definitely anti-war and anti-capitalism...but the real message is to take a feverish stand, and contributing personally to opposing war and capitalism to a degree...

General Comment:I am getting really annoyed at all of the people saying that these lyrics are generic or suck. YES, these lyrics are straight forward, NO these lyrics are not covered in beautiful metaphors. This song is about confrontation. Confronting something means to be straight forward and simplistic about what you want, so that the message gets across. This song is an amazing anti-war song, and I love it. This simplicity of it just gets the message across stronger.

General Comment:Comment to all who call it "generic":
No, generic is that bull they play about strippers, dancing, being, ahem, thugs, having "swagger" [which is actually just overconfidence in yourself, pompous and self centered, people are proud of this now?], yeah all that dumb...eh, crap. I'm sick of it! THIS music has meaning behind it. And I'm GLAD that I don't have to hear it in every other song played on the mainstream radio. Musical meanings are best in...rations? Can't think of the word I wanted to use. But all I mean is that variety is good, yeah we don't want to hear the same thing over and over just differently worded.

Song Meaning:i feel this is her most political song she has ever written. i love the fact when she plays it live she begins it with the true act of a patriot is to never remain silent. which makes me feel empowered an american. the question are we safe or in danger let you feel the way when you are in war and it on and off again war you don't know when its safe or not. and the fact that its anti capitalist is fulfilling because its true when you are really high up on the capitalist scale you seem like you are a cruel ruler and the you will have more enemies then when she says "its the rich mans wat but its the poor that fight" has a lot of social commentary not only as a nation at war but as a working person in society working for the really well off owner who treats you like crap. its just over all an empowering and liberating experience that releases the feeing of insignificance that people feel as workers compared to those who do not have to struggle but earn more well done miss shamaya it has the quality that warhead is missing.

My Opinion:i would say this is more of a pro-war song than anti-war, but in an insurgency form than a military. i'm sure all of you would think me wrong, even retarded, but when you read the lyrics what does it make you feel? happy about your government, angry at them? maybe even want to do something to take over? this should get some to think more openly.

General Comment:Some of you guys are so closed minded you know there are more wars going on than in just ours in Iraq right? You know there are more "tyrants" than bush? There's Iraq War, and the South Ossetian Conflict between Georgia and Russia, and there's the war in Afghanistan, the Tibetians trying to revolt, the Sudanese are committing genocide and lots of other things I can't put my finger on at the moment.

The point is war happens, its horrible, its worth writing about.

General Comment:it's true...the lyrics do kinda suck but i like the flow of the music and "stand up, strike back, speak out" is my anthem. My beliefs about the war are conflicting in more ways than one. I don't like the dying, but the media controls everything you shitheads know about the war and let me tell you their are soldiers who come back home and say "i can't wait to go back" just because of all the good things that are happening for the commoners of iraq. i mean, COME ON PEOPLE!!! WE'RE DESTORYING A DICTATIVE GOVERNMENT!!!
YOU WOULDN'T BE ANTI-WAR IF IT WAS HITLER WE WERE FIGHTING, WOULD YOU? The people in iraq have suffered alot but don't always believe what you watch on the fucking news....

I do however, agree with otep on the fact that this IS A RICH MAN'S WOOR, BUT A POOR MAN'S FIGHT. You don't see any little fucking rich kids being sent off to iraq just so they can get a good education do you? No. because they have the money to get into any school they want. and if the rich want to go into war then god damn it, why don't they go too?

    out country is pathetic, seriously.
