Some things never change
Or go away
I wait around
And now it's yesterday
Like some little kid
Who's overgrown
The lonely one
Who's never been alone

But I don't want to ever go back
To my old ways
Cheatin' and creepin' around
I don't ever want to go back
To the old days
Leaving the dead underground
But I don't ever want to go
No, I don't ever want to go back
To my old ways again

Always waiting for
The rain to stop
And praying for
The other shoe to drop
Let your worries go
We're all in love
A tidal wave
That comes from up above

But I don't want to ever go back
To my old ways
Cheatin' and creepin' around
I don't ever want to go back
To the old days
Leaving the dead underground
I don't ever want to go
No, I don't ever want to go back
To my old ways again
I don't want to go back
To my old ways again

General Comment:MY opinion in the song is about him simply growing up. From being an immature person who holds grudges, "Leaving the dead underground." An unfaithful person who doesnt know what he wants, "cheating and creeping around" And sitting around and not changing his life instead of making different decsions, "always praying for the other shoe to drop" and "I wait around, and now its yesterday". And hes changed and realized the errors of his old ways.

General Comment:Some detail, since I'm drunk and bored - The song is about the mindset of a reformed criminal. When he refers to being "some little kid who's overgrown" and finding "a tidal wave, that comes from up above", I think he's talking about the selfish and presumably childish perspective of an opportunistic criminal who experiences great difficulty sympathizing with others. But in prison, he is forced into a community and realizes just how wonderful being a part of something can be, even if it is a chain gang. Thus, his not wanting to go back.

General Comment:I agree with artslut on this one; after a long time spent decrypting and decoding these riddled and metaphorical lyrics, I have come to the conclusion that he doesn't want to go back.
