Lyrics for Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) as interpreted by laymon

Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) Lyrics
Walks into the room
Feels like a big balloon
I said, "Hey girl, you are beautiful"
Diet coke and a pizza please
Diet coke, I'm on my knees
Screamin, big girl, you are beautiful

You take your skinny girl
I feel like I'm gonna die
Cause a real woman needs a real man here's why
You take your girl and multiply her by four
Now a whole lotta woman needs a whole lot more

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy come on around
And there be gonna do baby
No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A waterin hole with the girls around
Curves in all the right places

Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful

Walks into the room
Feels like a big balloon
I said, "Hey girl, you are beautiful"
Diet coke and a pizza please
Diet coke, I'm on my knees
Screamin, big girl, you are beautiful

You take your girl and multiply her by four
Now a whole lotta woman needs a whole lot more

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy come on around
And there be gonna do baby
No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A waterin hole with the girls around
Curves in all the right places

Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy come on around
And there be gonna do baby
No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A waterin hole with the girls around
Curves in all the right places

Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful
Big girl you are beautiful

Get yourself to the butterfly lounge
Find yourself a big lady
Big boy come on around
And there be gonna do baby
No need to fantasize
Since I was in my braces
A waterin hole with the girls around
Curves in all the right places

I love Mika! This song is my favorite! He reminds me soooo much of Freddie Mercury, and it's amazing that he wrote a song that mirrors, "Fat Bottomed Girls." Delicious girls, like myself, need more songs like this. It's so catchy, I'd love a guy like Mika.

-linds "with curves in all the right places."

tigerstripes...

i thought that too.
i'm not a "big girl"...

but found it patronising.. and think he's vying for the attention of being a 'breakthrough' thinker.

Tigerstripes,

I think that, when he says "big girls," he does indeed mean BIG girls. Look at the album liner notes and the picture for this song. Now he probably didn't draw it, but he finalized it, so he sure does mean BIG girls.

I mean, comparing a big girl to a big balloon? That isn't just "more flesh on their bones than Nicole Ritchie." And while "curves in all the right places" is positive, the big balloon bit just plain isn't. Plus I do think he's really just aiming for a feel-good vibe on this song; I do not think these lyrics are very sincere for someone who REALLY likes a girl big.

Personally, I think he's gay, and this song is just one sign out of many on this album. And yes, that always seems to follow Mika around whenever he is talked about, but that's OK. And of course it's fine to be gay, but to talk about what "real men" want in a girl -- it really isn't his place.

Uhh he says "multiply her by 4". He's talking about big BIG girls, not just a size 14.

I'm a big girl and although I don't like him, I do think he is sincere. You people are being too freaking sensitive. You think that whenever people talk about us they are being negative. Start liking yourself and you'll realize that other people do too!

Oh and dudes get off his dick. Just cause he's cutesy and emotional doesn't mean he's gay.

Favorite line of the song: "Now a whole lotta woman needs a whole lot more" cause it's the fucking truth.

The only thing preventing me liking this song is the horribly out of tune bass line. Almost a semitone in some places! jeezus...

"Especially because in Grace Kelly he alludes to Freddie Mercury."

I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about Freddie Mercury. Considering he's talking about Grace Kelly, I think he was talking about Fred Astaire when he says "So I tried a little Freddie"

i'm pretty sure he's being sincere, 'specially cuz he dedicated this song to his close friend beth ditto.
if he was just going, "i'ma get more record sales!" he wouldn't have dedicated it to beth.
i also think he was alluding to queen, because in the liner notes for "grace kelly" he DID spell it "freddie". my mom thinks he sounds a lot like freddie and i tend to agree.

I just love this song. It's catchy and I think that anyone who has a problem with it probably has never felt like the biggest "balloon" in the room - and I'm a size 12. Just my opinion.

P.S. The lyrics aren't exactly right.

I think Mika has it right there: big girls can be very beautiful. And this song sounds awesome!

BUT what bothers me is that the lyrics make it sound like being overweight is a good thing and all girls should be "big" ("multiply her by four") . It's not a good thing. Being really overweight is a HUGE health risk, and if you're that big, you really should order that diet coke, no matter what Mika screams at you.

Now, I'm not really a 'big girl,' but I acknowledge that I'm bigger than a lot of the poor little twigs I see everyday. This song just makes me feel... awesome.
I think it's really just a fun, feel-good tune; simply something you can dance to like a fool and be happy about. I really doubt he means "take your girl and multiply her by four" /literally/, it's just a line that's supposed to communicate, "hey, these girls are all too skinny, let's get 'em a little bigger."
Also, I've been past the Butterfly Lounge, and it really is nice to see people of all sizes getting and to have a good time. :]

"Oh and dudes get off his dick. Just cause he's cutesy and emotional doesn't mean he's gay."

Straight men are not flamboyant, sing constantly in falsetto, etc. TRUST me. He is beyond just cutesy and emotional. Plus, out of all his songs, I hear zero sexualization in any of his lyrics, or speaking of women in a romantic context, which just about any songwriter who is straight does, at least in some of their songs. I mean, look at REM - Michael Stipe didn't necessarily seem gay, but he NEVER wrote about love. And Stipe finally admitted that he WAS gay, and that he has always struggled with it. So he was a closet case!

It's obvious. It sounds like a song written more toward his female friends to give them a confidence boost, rather than someone who has a sexual or romantic interest in big women. But it just does not sound sincere in any event.

should it really though?? i am bigger and i am still undecided on this song and the debate that surround it months after it was released. I like the idea that it is to make big girls feel better about themselves but at the same time it can make me feel uncomfortable when i'm out. I have had it sung to me several times by guys on nights out and one guy even followed me down the street with it playing full blast out his car window and i never quite know if i should take this as a compliment or people winding me up about my size, in the grand scheme of things i'm not as big as a lot of people (size18) but if size doesn't matter could they not just sing another song to me that didn't mention my size???!!! however i don't think mika intended to offend anybody i think it really was just meant to make people feel good such as his friends maybe even a message to guys to say that girls can be pretty regardless of size and as for the gay argument does it really matter???!!

I think its rather bold of him to profess his love for Big Beautiful Women!

Me myself being a BBW i am some what proud to know that the mainstream pop world can included a song that isnt by typical standers the "norm" !!!

A full figured woman can be just as beautiful as your typical underfed starved size 2 lady! Its all in the matter of how she presents her self!

anyway tho this isn't my usually tasted in music i still LOVE this song!

I've heard that he wrote this song, inspired by the prejudice his own mother got for being a bog woman. I think his heart was in the best place it could've been when he wrote this song. It sends out a message that big girls, whether they have a bit more fat to make them average, or if they're larger than life, (No offence intended, I think that big women are beautiful) That they look beautiful in their skin.
