Lyrics for Adelaide as interpreted by eltroyo11

Adelaide Lyrics
You're repeating me lines
That you think I want to hear
But I don't want to hear anymore
As if sorry is any consolation
For what it's worth
You're stringing me along
Shouldn't need anyone
Shouldn't need anyone
Just scared of being alone
But by the time you've figured this out
And I'm already gone

Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene

You keep giving me signs
That you think I want to see
But you're nothing like you've seen
Hiding behind your half smile
But the truth is so undeniable
Shouldn't need anyone
Shouldn't need anyone
Just scared of being alone
But by the time you've figured this out
And I'm already gone

Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
Making a scene

Like lipstick traces on pillow cases
Some things in life are unforgettable
Like love, loss, lies, and lust, woah
Some things in life are undeniable
Like lipstick traces on pillow cases
Some things in life are unforgettable
Like love, loss, lies, and lust, woah
Some things in life are undeniable

Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene

The only line I'm not sure of is the lipstick one in the bridge. Any help would be much appreciated.

It's

Like lipstick traces on pillow cases
Some things in life are unforgettable
Like love, loss, lies, and lust, woah
Some things in life are undeniable
Like lipstick traces on pillow cases
Some things in life are unforgetable
Like love, loss, lies, and lust, woah
Some things in life are undeniable

thank you so much for putting up the lyrics.

second verse, 3rd line, seems more like a typo though"but you're nothing like you've seen"...everything else seems fine to me

i think it's "you're stringing me along" instead of "You're stranding me alone". what do you guys think? i'm not sure, my speakers have been wrong before.

Crap, sorry about the stringing/stranding thing. I forgot to edit that when I got the album.

And you're welcome.

I really wish trusted users could edit songs. It would make the place run just a bit smoother.

Its true Anberlin rock.
I heard that this song was named after the city Adelaide here in Australia, but it sounds more like it is a persons name after reading the lyrics.

This song is trully awesome! its so goood!
i'm from australia and this song i'm pretty is about when the band played in adelaide and the lead singer reallly liked a girl who lived there, but she treated him really badly and didnt care for how he felt, because he really liked her! and so he couldnt use the person's name as that would be slightly inappropriate, so he used adelaide for the name!

but he wrote this song without her knowing and "But by the time you've figured this out, And i'm already gone" says that when that girl finally realises wat he felt, he'll be gone! and "for what it's worth. you're stringing me along" - she's just using him.

and then he says how she really him going this time.. just frustrayion..

but i might be wrong.. but still a fantastic song and i love it!

adelaide is a girls name too. so i doubt it has anything to do with adelaide in south australia lol.
i think they probably just like the name adelaide coz Stephen has been quoted on wanting to use the name Anberlin for his first born daughter, but the band was formed first so he used that name for the band instead. So i really believe that Stephen just has a thing for nice sounding names.

not really having anything to do with the meaning, but I was reading Emma by Jane Austen and they put definitions in the back and i was flipping through it and I saw the word Adelaide and I flipped back and sure enough, it said Adelaide and I freaked out and then I fell asleep with the song in my head. x)

Well it is the name of a huge city in South Australia but I guess it could be either the name of the city. I don't know much about the songwriters life, but maybe they had an affair in the City of Adelaide and refer to the girl by the name of the city it happened in, as to keep her name anonymous and that he connects that city with her name. Either that or its just her name lol.

This song is totally about being "just friends" with a girl. "Stringing me along" seems to say it all. Gotta hate the feeling, gotta love Anberlin for writing a song about it.

Whoah, this song is GOOD. Ffffabulous lyrics. Pretty self-explanatory, about a guy who's sick of this girl (who's name, i suppose, is Adelaide, though that's the name of a place in Australia) who keeps stringing him along and giving him signs.. that she thinks he wants to see. Straightforward, cutting edge and perfect for when you have someone in your face who won't leave even though you tell them you hate them.

I should send this to someone I know, the Player..

Love♥it

Hm. Before I even heard this song, the song title reminded me of a character in the musical Guys and Dolls named Adelaide. The lyrics sort of match her, too. It might not be about her, but that's just my two cents.

no this song is about the city in Australia. during warped tour before they sang this song he said "we've been to so many different amazing places around the world and one city really inspired us in Australia and that;s adeliaide

In my opinion I don't think anyone has hit the nail on the head. I think this song is about a girl who feels she is no one is less she has a guy to lean on (I know way too many girls like this). She says and does what she thinks he wants to hear so he will stay with her. I think the whole song is her trying to get him to stay. He then realizes this is what she was all along and didn't really necessarily like him. I think the lead singer my have ended up with a girl like this before (maybe in Australia), but when she finally realizes that he is going or has wised up to her plan she makes a scene to hope to get him to stay. My roommates girlfriend is exactly like this and despite the warnings.

I think it is about a girl who basically used the guy and now she feels sorry and wants him back. But he's like i don't need you becasue she might use him again. He realizes she isn't worth thinking about and she will be forgotten.

Okay, first thing this is an incredible song. But I just had to point out a slight error in the lyrics:

its "love, loss, lies, and US", not lust.

and yeah, I'm reading that straight out of the CD booklet. Just thought I'd point that out.
