She said call me now baby,
And I'd come a running,
She said call me now baby,
And I'd come a running,
If you'd call me now baby,
I'd come a running
I'm on call,
So be there,
One and all
To be there,
When I fall,
To pieces,
Don't you know,
I'll be there waiting
I'm gonna brawl
So be there,
One for all,
Be there,
When they fall,
To pieces,
Don't you know,
I'll be there laughing
I'll come a running,
I come a running,
I've come a running,
Be there!
I'm on call
So be there
I'm on call to be there!
And I'd come a running,
She said call me now baby,
And I'd come a running,
If you'd call me now baby,
I'd come a running
I'm on call,
So be there,
One and all
To be there,
When I fall,
To pieces,
Don't you know,
I'll be there waiting
I'm gonna brawl
So be there,
One for all,
Be there,
When they fall,
To pieces,
Don't you know,
I'll be there laughing
I'll come a running,
I come a running,
I've come a running,
Be there!
I'm on call
So be there
I'm on call to be there!

That it's from the girl's perspective after the first bit.
He's a bit of a mess, but she's there.
I don't think it's about God at all.
Hope not anyway, it's one of my favourite songs.
I am thinking the "She" in the song isn't just some woman or girl he's in love with. I believe "She" is a reference to God and the perspective of the song is from Jesus point of view. The song, imho, is alluding to the battle between good and evil at the end of time. Jesus is "On Call" to be there. The thought of what could occur at the time of his calling haunts him, and yet his will to be there to help the people he loves is indomitable.

She said call me now baby,
And I'd come a running (x2)
If you'd call me now baby,
I'd come a running
I’m on call
TO be there
One and all
To be there
When I fall
To pieces
LORD, you know
I’ll be there waiting (x2)
I’m gon’ brawl
So be there
One for all
Be there,
When they fall
To pieces
LORD, you know
I’ll be there laughing
((I come a running
I’d come a running
I’ve come a running))
((I’ll be there
You’ll be there))
I’m on call ((to be there))
I’m on call ((you’ll be there)) (x2)
I’m on call to be there
The first stanza could be a representation of their mother and her faith. She was really religious and that could be showing her devotion to God. The family travelled all over; that is to say, wherever God “called” they “ran”.
Even this album was named with a religious influence. They have the a devotion to God (as I said previously) even if they fall they know that their God feels the same way about them and that He’ll come to pick up “the pieces” that they “fall” into.
As a Christian myself, we are told we are in a battlefield. We fight not against people, but evil (a bit abstract I know). In the war of it all he knows that God’s side will win (with God being there-on their call)
Present, future, and past- consistency… you get the gist for the rest!
The lyrics in this song are WEAK, but the bass line is pretty awesome.
