I'm a preacher, sweating in the pew
For the salvation I'm bringing you
I'm a salesman; I'm selling you hooks and plans
And myself, making demands
[Chorus]
When I'm home alone, I just dance by myself
And you pull my hips so close; volume goes with the truth
Signing off "I'm all right in bed, but I'm better with a pen."
The kid was all right but it went to his head
I am God's gift, but why would He bless me with
Such wit without a conscience equipped?
I'm addicted to the way I feel when I think of you, whoa
There's too much green to feel blue
[Chorus]
When I'm home alone, I just can't stop myself
And you pull my hips so close; volume goes with the truth
Signing off "I'm all right in bed, but I'm better with a pen."
I'm all right in bed, but I'm better with a pen
I'm all right in bed, but I'm better with a pen
The kid was all right but it went to his head, whoa

"I'm a preacher, sweating in the pews
for the salvation I'm bringing you.
I'm a salesmen, I'm selling you hooks and plans
And myself, making demands".
**I think he is talking about how fake people are and how you can get disappointed by believing everything you hear**
"When I'm home alone, I just dance by myself.
And you pull my head so close volume goes with the truth.
Signing off, I'm alright in bed, but I'm better with the pen.
The kid was alright, but it went to his head."
**I think here he is saying when he acts like himself, but only when he is alone and the closer he gets to "her" he starts to act more and more like himself without noticing. The more and more comfortable he got with "her" the more chemistry he thought there was and he got cocky and it turned her off.
"I am God's gift, why would he bless me
with such wit without a conscience equipped.
And I'm addicted to the way i feel when I think of you
"There's too much green to feel blue."
**This goes back to "her" and now how he's feeling more and more confident. My favorite line is line 3. And the last line, to me, says he has too much envy inside that he is not upset over losing her at all.
"When I'm home alone, I just can't stop myself.
And you pull my head so close, volume goes with the truth.
Signing off, I'm all right in bed, but I'm better with the pen.
The kid was all right, but it went to his head."
**I think this is the next girl he is pursuing. Then another, then another, etc.
he hides behind his words and music, he talks tough but he can't back it up. at least thats how i take it.
i think this songs about having trouble facing homosexuality!?
