Oh in the morning
I stumble
my way towards
the mirror and my makeup
it's light out
and I now
face just what I'm made of

There's so much more
left to do
Well I'm not young
But I'm not through

Oh in the evening
I stumble
my way towards another day
we struggle
it's dark out
it's time now
that I pick up my hustle

Make a call
make some cash
make your mark
make it last
tiny scores
tiny rooms
lofty goals
met too soon
too soon

Well here I stand
a broken man
If I could I would raise my hands
I come before you humbly
If I could I'd be on my knees

Come lay down your head upon my chest
feel my heart beat feel my unrest
If Jesus could only wash my feet
Then I'd get up strong and muscle on
Oh in the morning
I stumble
my way towards
the mirror and my makeup
it's light out
and I now
face just what I'm made of

There's so much more
left to do
Well I'm not young
But I'm not through

tiny scores
tiny rooms
lofty goals
met too soon

    General Comment:Make a call
    make some cash
    make your mark
    make it last

The writer contrasts viewpoints on work, ranging from a mundane routine to something with a lasting effect on the world.

    lofty goals
    met too soon

The writer might feel he's met success too soon and now has lost his purpose.

If Jesus could only wash my feet
Then I'd get up strong and muscle on

General Comment:"Menomena" is a portmanteau of the words "Men" and "Phenomena". Do the math on the pronunciation. I'm 99% sure it is pronounced "men-AH-men-ah". Love the new CD though. A sonic Masterpiece.

My Interpretation:I was just about to say something along those lines...about how the song is about male prostitution or a drug addiction.

The lines: "Make a call/ make some cash/ make your mark/ make it last
tiny scores/ tiny rooms/ lofty goals/ met too soon/ too soon" says it all, especially if you think of it as a sexual encounter. (ask if you don't understand what i mean)

In the morning he looks at himself in the mirror and looks at what he's worth, perhaps someone who lacks value after a night of prostitution. Then he gives a justification by saying although he is not young, he still has much more to experience in life. Then once it becomes night, he has "stumble" to "pick up [his] hustle", meaning he uses this sexual activity--usually performed at night--to get by.

Later on, he states that he knows his actions are sinful when he calls himself "a broken man". There is a sense of guilt when he says that his heartbeat is "unrest" and wishes for Jesus to wash his feet-- symbolic for a forgiveness of his unholy actions.

I would also like to add that the pronunciation is probably similar to 'phenomena' but replace the ph with an m.

General Comment:Is Menomena still in the aftershocks of being raised on Jesus? Because Craig Thompson DEFINITELY is, probably will be his whole life. The foot-washing talking about Jesus's impotence makes me think that maybe they are...
