When the lights go up and the game is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
When the bell rings out and the fight is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
When the lights go up and the game is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
When the bell rings out and the fight is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
It's time for us to start throwing down
Take a look and see who's standing now
It's time for us to start throwing down
Look and see who's standing now

Didn't even know that you and I were cross
Until a sneak attack on the weak side
Unaware that we were in a fight
I guess that's part of the problem
But guess what

When the lights go up and the game is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
When the bell rings out and the fight is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
It's time for us to start throwing down
Just look and see who's standing now
It's time for us to start throwing down
Look and see who's standing now

Say what you want about me
Throw up what you want to throw up at me
But when you mess with those are around me
That's when you and I will have a problem

When the lights go up and the game is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
When the bell rings out and the fight is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
It's time for us to start throwing down
Just look and see who's standing now
It's time for us to start throwing down
Look and see who's standing now

I'm not afraid of loving my enemies
Turning the other cheek
Blessing those that would curse me
I honestly want peace with you
But when you come against my country
When you come against my family
You try to destroy my people
I can't just stand by
There's no way that I can stand by
This time I will not stand by
I am coming, and if I come
Then pain is coming with me
Now I'm coming and pain will be with me

When the bell rings out, this fight is on
Are you ready for me
Cause I'm ready for you
It's time for us to start throwing down
Just look and see who's standing now
It's time for us to start throwing down
Wow, look and see who's standing now
Look and see who's standing now
Look and see who's standing now
Look and see who's standing now

I'm not saying that's how the meant it, but that's how it sounds to me.

"Didn't even know that you and I were cross Until a sneak attack on the weak side Unaware that we were in a fight I guess that's part of the problem"

As a country, we didn't know we were at war before 9/11 (and make no mistake, we WERE). And, now that the game is on, we're ready.

And btw, on their website, it has where the got the idea from. 1 Samuel 30:1-18, which basically talks about the Amalekites had launched a sneak attack, and then David went and opened a can of whoop ***. lol

So, it fits my theory too.

Make sure you don't let "turning the other cheek" make you think that a Christian has to be weak and submissive. That phrase actually shows that we should be strong and assertive. God made us to be warriors for him and not doormats for the world. Here's some info on "turn the other cheek". new-life.net/faq001.htm Keep living in Christ :D

    My Interpretation

You guys have got it all wrong. It's written to seem like he's describing a school-yard fight, but the bridge makes it very clear that this is an allegory for terrorist attacks against America.

"Didn't even know that you and I were cross Until a sneak attack on the weak side Unaware that we were in a fight"

This describes that many Americans were caught off guard by the 9/11 attacks and had no clue who attacked us and why.

"I honestly want peace with you But when you come against my country When you come against my family You try to destroy my people I can't just stand by"

Again, he'd rather not be at war, but given the blatant attack on U.S. sovereignty, the hand has been forced.

    Song Fact

For The Antidote radio program I asked Kevin Young of Disciple what his intentions were regarding the song. He text back: "In Disciple, we always try to write songs that point to Jesus in an evangelistic way, but we also try to maintain the freedom to write about any topic whatsoever. So “Game On” definitely fell outside of the evangelistic realm. The song came about when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was a member of Al-Qaeda and a major voice of jihad against American soldiers, was killed in the middle of 2006. When the news reported his death I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. Should I be happy? Should I be sad? As a Christian, I believe that Jesus is calling me to be a peacemaker, and not to defend myself, and definitely to not support violence. So I basically just started having a conversation with God about when is it ok for a Christian to fight. I looked to example of Jesus… he never fought back, he turned the other cheek, and even offered forgiveness to His tormentors. But this same Jesus in 2 Thessalonians 1:4-9 defends the weak and those who have been persecuted with righteous justice. So the song “Game On" really formed out of this conversation….. and I’m still having this conversation with God as I strive to be more like him. I don’t claim that the theology of “Game On” correct or incorrect, but it’s how I walked away from my conversation with God on that day in 2006….. that I will not defend myself. But that I do have a mandate to protect and defend my wife, my children, the weak, and even my country. For me, that’s the best way to get my thoughts out…. write a song about it. And that’s the story of “Game On.”

You know, on their last CD they had a song that was a tribute to our soldiers. The song sounds to me like a tribute to the enemy.

"Didn't even know that you and I were cross Until a sneak attack on the weak side Unaware that we were in a fight I guess that's part of the problem But guess what

When the lights go up and the game is on Are you ready for me Cause I'm ready for you When the bell rings out and the fight is on Are you ready for me Cause I'm ready for you It's time for us to start throwing down Just look and see who's standing now It's time for us to start throwing down Look and see who's standing now"

I think it's a fight song for Christians to, if I dare say it, "rise up" against the problems that we might not even know are in our lives. I don't see anywhere here that it's a tribute to the enemy.

i completely agree with swithbak, just because ur a christian doesn't mean u have to be weak and submissive, i actually think a lot of the time its opposite. theres a book i was readin with my pastor that says that God made men to b the way we all want to be, which is the tough guy or the guy that can take care of himself and the guy that is adventurous, and that completely goes against what the world thinks about male christians these days. but this song rocks so hard its unreal.. i listen to it all the flippin time, i actually m right now lol, ain't nothin better than a bunch of christians talkin about defending those closest to them at all costs

all religion aside, it's a good song, musically. for an agnostic like me, I think this song is just about getting ready to kick someone's ass. hell, if I were going to fight to some music I'd put this song on.

I think it's about Christians standing up for what they believe in instead of being afraid when attacked (like I'm sure I will be) by people that don't believe and feel better about themselves by saying God doesn't exist.

Regardless, this would be a perfect song for the opening of Raw, or Smackdown. It sounds like entrance music lol.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
