I knitted you a hat all blue and gold
To keep your ears warm from the Binghamton cold
It was my first one and it was too small
It didn't fit you at all, but you wore it just the same

I remember the first time we danced
I remember tunneling through the snow like ants
What I don't recall is why I said
"I simply can't sleep in this tiny bed with you anymore"

I should tell you that you were my first love

So it's Christmas time, it's been three years
And someone else is knitting things for your ears

I have come to learn I'll only see you interrupting my dreams at night
And that's alright. And that's alright
And that's alright. And that's alright

I should tell you that you were my first love

And it's alright. And it's alright. And it's alright

(And it's alright) we were seventeen again together
(And it's alright) we were seventeen again together
(And it's alright) we were seventeen again together

I should tell you that you were my first love
I should tell you that you were my first love

We were seventeen again
We were seventeen again
We were seventeen again

Pretty straight forward. On my own personal note :), this is also how I feel about my first real girlfriend. She was amazing, I was in love, she wasn't, I still don't know why, but I don't care anymore because "that's alright".

    Ingrid you do narrate lives.

Recently I found the program I used to download music while I was in college. The program had since been shut down, the songs wouldn't play. All I was left with was a list of the music that took me through college. Anyways. I went though hundreds of song titles, finally coming to this one. I take comfort in this song, it reminds me of my first boyfriend obviously. We were together for five years. We started dating in high school and grew up together. Once at college, we slept tangled up in each other in my tiny twin sized bed. He was perfect, I can't recall one time he was mean to me. Yet it ended. He will always be my first love, and I do always think about him at Christmastime...

ingrid writes with a bittersweet, melancholy air to her words, channeling perfectly the moods and remembrances of a love lost.

the hand chimes accent perfectly the second verse, lending a holiday spirit, as well as punctuating ingrid's constant vocal switches.

this is exactly how I feel about my first real boyfriend. He was great, and he was my first love, and I'm not sure why it ended, but it's alright. I don't miss him, but I'll never forget him, either.

What I don't recall is why I said, "I simply can't sleep in this tiny bed with you anymore.".

it's like she's saying it was so innocent and perfect but i have no idea why i thought to end it.

and the 'i should tell you that you were my first love. we're seventeen again' makes me think she never said it at the time but she's taking him back to say it now. not wanting to be back there, but not wanting to never have said it either.

    its awesome.

I love this song. I just went to my 10 year high school reunion, and saw a guy that I always, always liked, but never told.

"I should tell you that you were my first love..."

All the regret mixed in with nostalgia and wishfulness. A perfect mix.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
