The colored lights, they brightly shine.
Unlike your eyes avoiding mine.
The snow is folding sheet upon sheet.
Our hands not holding as we cross the street.

You have had your fill your fill of me.
You have had your fill your fill of me.

I wore the dress I thought you loved.
But my boots are filling with snow you shoved
Off of the car we climb into.
You finished first, I must catch up to you.

You have had your fill your fill of me.
You have had your fill your fill of me.

How can I catch up when I don't don't want to?
How can I catch up when I still want you?

You have had your fill your fill of me.
You have had your fill your fill of me.

December baby, you are my,
December baby, you are my,
December baby, you are my,
December baby, you are mine.

General Comment:I feel like everyone is correct with the interprutation of wanting to be with someone who is no longer wanting or feeling the same thing. However I think there is more to the verse that seems to be the topic of discussion
    The bridge:

"How can I catch up when I don't don't want to?
How can I catch up when I still want you?"

Yes, she want's a man that no longer desires her the same - however the first line '..when I don't want to' is out of exhaustion. Out of feeling unwanted and disvalued - not simply because he doesn't want her, but because of the particular feeligns she experiences from him not wanting her - she actually doesn't want to catch up because he doesnt give her any reason too, doesn't hold her hand, tell her she's beautiful, or even look her in the eye, but at the same time she 'still wants to' because she is still completely in love with him. She doesn't want it to end.

and 'December, baby.' Was or will be the last time they are together; in december, he was her baby, he was her's - "my december baby" that was the end of their love. She is holding on to that time as he was hers and she was his.

This is how I would interpret the song.

General Comment:For me this song describes the very end of my last relationship. Mostly the:
"You finished first, I must catch up to you.
You have had your fill your fill of me."
He would intentionally only see me once a week or two so that he could "miss" me. When I did get to see him, I could see him grow bored of me by the end of the visit because he had had his fill of me... I know Ingrid writes these to describe her own life, but it's crazy how relatable her lyrics are. Love her!

She doesn't want to be over him even though he's over her. She misses what they had.

General Comment:This song is about someone who is in love with someone who doesn't want them anymore.
I agree with what a lot of people are saying.
But I actually think one part is talking about a sexual experience...

"My boots are feeling with snow you've shoved
Off of the car, we climb into.
You finish first. I must catch up to you.
You have had your fill, your fill of me."

She puts it so nicely you can hardly tell.

General Comment:I love this song! This explains my situation so perfectly, not to mention it happened in December. Especially the part where she says "How can I catch up when I don't want to, how can I catch up when I still want you" She is referring to the fact that she cannot catch up to him and his feelings for her and she admits she still wants him. It's so sad, but exactly how I felt. Perfect.

The ending where she says "December baby you are mine" may mean that she still thinks of him as hers even though their relationship has ended and may not want to let go.

General Comment:What I love abou this song is the fact that it tells a story with little words. The bridge filters into a messy chaos of sound, drowning in a downwards spiral. You can hear the relationship get destroyed by the music. The sudden stop is that numb feeling of knowing the past and blankly unaware of what's ahead. Almost immediately, the music starts up again, but the listener knows it's not the same as before, things are now different. At the very end, almost every instrument drops out, and she's gingerly sings, "December Baby, you are mine". This part sounds as if she is still in love with him, but is in denial that they broke up.Or she is wishing that they were still together.

General Comment:I love this song. It's beautiful and touching.

    I think the part
"How can I catch up when I don't don't want to?
How can I catch up when I still want you?

refers to the fact that "he" has moved on and is over "her" but she can't catch up and match the way he is feeling.

She hasn't moved on because she still loves him and wants him...

General Comment:Such a beautiful song. I think it's about the fact the other person's moved on ("your eyes avoiding mine") and you're trying to catch up with them, but can't. It's such a horrible feeling when you know the other person doesn't feel the same way anymore and you want to make them, but can't. "You have had your fill, your fill of me" is about the fact he's done with her, he's got what he wanted from her and is now ready to go.

Also, I reckon the juxtaposition in the lines

"How can I catch up when I don't don't want to?
How can I catch up when I still want you?"

Is that she doesn't want to catch up with him because she knows it's a bad idea because he doesn't want her anymore, yet at the same time she wants to catch up with him because she still feels the same way... But it's not a good idea.
