I made my place by the door
I didn't know what i was waiting for
It felt just like home
Except no grass, no yard, no pictures hung

I could see across to the park
And there were friends
They were laughing hard
They looked just like my own
With no face, no name, no voice i know

I finally made it
I made a clean getaway
I finally made it
I made a clean getaway

I met someone at the bar
He had a great smile and a great heart
It felt just like love
Except no fear of losing and it wasn't tough

I finally made it
I made a clean getaway
I finally made it
I made a clean getaway
And i miss you
I miss you every single day

Song Meaning:Just heard this song on Pandora, and it grabbed me. I'm going through this right now, except on the other end.

    It's not a clean getaway.

"It felt just like home, friends, love... Except... "

This is not her home, these aren't her friends, and it isn't love at all.

Like Dorothy, she felt she had to leave and go somewhere over the rainbow to find something she thought she did not have. And she's not finding it.

"And I miss you, I miss you everyday"

And if You are reading this, I miss you too. I miss you everyday.

General Comment:this song and its meaning is pretty self explanitory, it just perfectly describes the feeling of loneliness and moving on, slowly but surely.. gorgeous.

General Comment:I feel like even though the narrator says she's "finally made it," she's gotten rid of everything that meant something to her. She knows (intellectually) that cutting everything off was for the best, but her heart is being pulped by it.

    I definitely agree with poncho524.

General Comment:She left her life behind to start a new one. She had friends, a job, and someone she loved, or probably still loves. But that person left her, either physically or emotionally, or both, I don't know, but they left her and she could no longer breathe in the place she lived without them.

So she moved... and left everything behind and now she looks out and sees other friends laughing and having a good time like she used to with her friends.

"No grass, no yard, no pictures hung" means it is a home, but it doesn't resemble her previous home, all the little things that make your home yours, is missing from her new place. It is without color.

    General Comment:the part of this song that affects me the most is;

    And i miss you
I miss you every single day

everytime I hear that it cuts straight into me. The simplicity and honesty of it..

General Comment:and i agree with poncho524, there is irony in the clean getaway, because it doesnt seem clean at all if there is still something left "back there" to miss.
