Lyrics for Kill All Your Friends as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Kill All Your Friends Lyrics
Well you can hide a lot about yourself
But honey, what are you gonna do?
And you can sleep in a coffin
But the past ain't through with you,

Cuz we are all a bunch of liars
Tell me baby who do you wanna be?
And we are all about to sell it
Cus its tragic with a capital 'T'
Let it be, Let it be, LET IT BE!

Cuz we all wanna party when the funeral ends
[Ba ba ba, ba ba baaa
And we all get together when we bury our friends
[Ba ba ba, ba ba baaa
It's been 8 bitter years since I've been seeing your face
[Ba ba ba, ba ba baaa
And you're walking away
And I will die in this place

Sometimes you scrape and sink so low,
I'm shocked at what you're capable of.
And if this is a coronation
I ain't feeling the love

Cuz we are all a bunch of animals
that never paid attention in school
So tell me all about your problems
I was killing before killing was cool
You're so cool, you're so cool [SO COOL

Cuz we all wanna party when a funeral ends
[Ba ba ba, ba ba baaa
And we all get together when we bury our friends
[Ba ba ba, ba ba baaa
It's been 9 bitter years since I've been seeing your face
[Ba ba ba, ba ba baaa
And you're walking away and I will die in this place

You'll never take me alive, you'll never take me alive
Do what it takes to survive cos I'm still here
You'll never get me alive, you'll never take me alive
Do what it takes to survive and I'm still here
You'll never take me alive, you'll never get me alive
Do what it takes to survive and I'm still here
You'll never get me [Get me!, you'll never take me [Take me!
You'll never get me alive!

Cuz we all wanna party when the funeral ends
[Ba ba ba, ba ba baaa
And we all get together when we bury our friends
It's been 10 fucking years since
I've been seeing your face round here
And you're walking away and I will drown in the fear.

I really don't think this song is about "the emo trend" or anything like "teenagers". Just an opinion, but I always took the song for what it says: "And we all wanna party when the funeral ends, and we all get together when we bury our friends, it's been (8-9-10) (bitter-fucking) years since I've been seeing your face, and you're walking away and I will die in this place". To me it means something like we all have friends we grew up with, and most left you high and dry, and you only see them again at high school reunions and funerals/weddings ect.. In Gerard Way's comic book "The Umbrella Academy" "The Apocalypse Suite" one of the issues (the second one) is titled "We Only See Each Other At Weddings And Funerals" where the characters father died and the group of super heros, which all split their separate ways years ago, get together to bury their father and are reunited to save the world again, and through out the issue and the rest of the comic book, they are all angry at each other for whatever reason they left. So, I would think that this song is about a friend or family member who died (i.e. Gerard's Grandma, who he writes alot of his songs about) and all of the "poser friends" come to the funeral and he is thinking "What the fuck?!?! Now you want to see her/us?" I know when my girlfriends friend died (She grew up in a small butt-fuck town of Oregon and left as soon as she turned 18), we went to the funeral and she got the same response from all her childhood friends. It's true that most people once they get out of highschool go their separate ways and start new lives, and some people just stay home and live it out in their home town, and this song, I feel, is about those lost relationships from childhood put even more at edge when a friend dies, everyone goes through it, and if you haven't yet, trust me, your friends will die, it's a part of life. But this song is great, got me through a lot of hardships, like when my dad abandoned me for a new family, and all I sang was " You'll never take me alive, you'll never take me alive, Do what it takes to survive cause I'm still here, You'll never get me alive, you'll never take me alive, Do what it takes to survive and I'm still here"

When I hear this I think o some elderly people who haven't seen their friends in years, besides at funerals. So basically, They may as well go and kill all their friends one by one if the funeral is the only time they will see the ohter friends. This was probably not the intened meaning, bu that'what I get out of it.

I don't like this song very much. I really hate when it goes, "Ba ba ba, ba ba baa..."

I prefer incoherent screaming and random chords thrown together. Ha ha. Some one said that before. No, seriously. I prefer stuff from Bullets.

I think that it is about the way we have friends that we used to talk to every day, and were insereprable(May be Misspelled) with then you guys grow up and apart to the point where though tou still say that your friends you only end up seeing each other a place like a funeral. They all were a lot alike but not anymore. Once the funeral ends they end up partying and forgetting the death because they are finally together again. Before they leqave they all say they should keep in thouch, but never will. One of them stays at them is basicly saying see you at my funeral because he knows that, that's the only thing that get them together.

Lyrically one of my favourite MCR songs..

This song makes me think about how at funerals, nobody says anything bad.. even if the dead person was a complete douche, we only say good things about them even if it's a lie
"Cos we are all a bunch of liars, Tell me baby who do you wanna be?"

I don't know if that was the intended effect, but it's how i interpret it.

The Chorus Kinda Links With The Chapter Of The Umbrella Academy: We Only See Each Other At Weddings And Funerals.
& 'But The Past Ain't Through With You' Is Another Chapter In The Umbrella Academy...So It Could All Link To That In Someway.

I Think It's Definitely Got Something To Do With No Seeing People Anymore & When You Do See Each Other It's Because Something Big Is Happening - Like A Funeral, & When You Get Together You Realise Everyone's Changed, Which Is What The Verses Are About...Ya Know?

'I Was Killing Before Killing Was Cool' I Love That Line =]

This song is my favorite off the B-sides.
MCR is my favorite band IN THE ENTIRE WORLD, I love them so much, and they inspired me to become a writer since I always would come up with stories based around their songs.
I wrote a short story about this song, and it was about a young man whose childhood friends abandoned him for other people, and turned against him.
So later in his life when he was in college he gets in with a few of his old friends, and by this time he has new friends and such, who were also abandoned by their friends.
So they come up with a plan, and slowly start killing off all of these people who've done them wrong in the past, and it ends with only this young man who kills ALL of his friends (even the ones who were also betrayed) and he gets chased down by the police until they corner him in a cemetery, where he has a gun in his hand and he shoots himself as they're about to arrest him.
So basicly the story is about becoming obbessed over revenge and such, and going to far into that in stead of forgetting about the people who've done you wrong and go on with your own life.

I think this song is about how so many people will do anything to fit in and be "cool"; how every day people lie and backstab and hit below the belt to get what they want.

i don't know if my interpretation is correct but i think the song is about how imperfect friends are, and being a friend yourself makes you imperfect for them too.

Based on the first stanza:
"Well you can hide a lot about yourself
But honey what are you gonna do?
And you can sleep in a coffin
But the past ain’t through with you,
Cos we are all a bunch of liars
Tell me baby who do you wanna be?"

the thought that struck me here is that friends are people who you think you can always count on, but in fact, they can also commit mistakes which can hurt you, mostly the 'plastics'... and until the death of that friend, what you'll never forget is what he/she has done wrong to you..
And you can never change the fact that, there will always be times when you had to lie to your friend, which may be in a positive or negative aim....

But the chorus says, that even if you wanted that so-called friend to die (well this is just what i understood), he could never live without having one..
"And you walking away and I will die in this place."
Well, no man is an island right?

To me; this song is making fun of the emo thing, to me it's like... "woo my friend left this world!!!" and, also about the "because we are all a bunch of animals who never payed attention in school" makes me think of how kids don't pay attention in school (duh) and end up not knowing/wasting there life. the line "if this is a correnation i aint feeling the love" makes me think of how like.. if you wanna be emo there's not much love to join.. haha i love emo kids don't worry

I think everyone might be taking all the mentions of death and killing a little too literally.

"I was killing before killing was cool" is obviously a referance to the "emo" trend.

"We all wanna party when the funeral ends" I think is just saying that it's the hard times that bring us all together, or possibly to shock people. Heaps of people I've played this song to are really outraged by the lyrics, but we DO all party after a funeral, don't we?!

And of course, there's references back to their school days. Judging by Disenchanted, Teenagers, the filmclip for I'm Not Okay, they just had a really rough time at school.

That's my opinion anyway. =]

If it means about the friends being a bunch of backstabbing people who gossip and betray you, then I can totally relate to this song.

But I also agree it could tie in with the patient story.

I think it talks about how hypocritical, fake, and low most people really are.

The "Kill All You Friends" deal (and the chorus), to me, is basically saying that it's sad that someone has to die before we actually notice, respect, and love them. Some people act like they were best friends of the person who died at funerals when, in reality, they probably had so much shit with them or just ignored them.

Brilliant song.

my favorite line is:

"And you can sleep in a coffin
But the past ain’t through with you"

I like this because it made me think about something I never thought about, how dieing doesn't necessarily stop your past, like not everything is gonna disappear instantly

It's not really a matter of interpretation. The whole song sums up a plotline in Gerard's graphic novel (I think it's a graphic novel, anyway) called Umbrella Academy. A line from the song, "...But the Past Ain't Through With You," is one of the chapter titles.

It's about a character called the Rumor, who gets done in by her own unique powers and through the prowess of her so-call friends-- Any lie she says, happens.

I think this song is about fake friends. People that pretend to care about you but stab you in the back.
It's about ending a relationship with those people and being happy about it.

"Cos we are all a bunch of liars, Tell me baby who do you wanna be?" I think is about how pople lie and pretend to be someone their not, pretend they are your friends. Or how you lie and act like someone else to fit in with your "friends".

"And if this is a coronation
I ain’t feeling the love" I feel it refers to when they do all this nice things, are nice to you, etc. but you feel it isn't honest, there's no love.

The part "So tell me al about your problems" Makes me think of when they pretend to care about you, but they really don't.

But of course it can be interpreted in many ways and makes sense. :3

Me and a friend came up with a odd and most likely wrong meaning to this song.
A man was taken to prison for killing his friends, one of the ones he didn't kill is visiting him, then he's watchinh her/him walk away,
"And you walking away and I will die in this place"
This place being prison. The funeral bits are most likely about him seeing his friends at the funerals of the murdered ones. Sounds like a cool story xD
