Lyrics for Show 'Em The Ropes as interpreted by CKwillburn

Show 'Em The Ropes Lyrics
Just hold your breath to make sure you won't wake up again
cause you ruined my '04 and that's the best that I could hope for
To watch you fall apart from the inside
We're gonna spread it to the world about how you lied

A free lesson on growing up - never trust anyone to the point where your back's exposed
Every person I've ever know was a fake
and you'll see your closest ones go first
Who needs enemies?
You've got friends

I'm a gentleman and you're a liar
I'll expect the best of you but it's so hard

Let's start over
When we reach the top we'll watch you bury yourself
This wasn't easy
It wasn't easy

A free lesson on growing up make the best of their worst
and never compromise what you feel is right
I make a point to be powerful when I speak
be the one to give them nightmares when they sleep
Never back down from anyone

I'm a gentleman and you're a liar
I'll expect the best of you but it's so hard

Let's start over
When we reach the top we'll watch you bury yourself
This wasn't easy
It wasn't easy

I watched the weight of your world cave in to crush you

pretty easy, its about friends that turn out to be fakes. and how they are burying themselves with all their lies.

This is not about ex-friends in general.

I'm from Ocala, FL, where ADTR is from. So I know what this is about.

This is about a specific person I need not mention. Just know this is someone they used to affiliate themselves with and no longer do. This song is a direct bash and insult to him. This song disgusts me entirely.

ADTR has the attitude of 'never turn my back on my friends.' And the nature and origin of this song I can't bash because I've heard some details here and there. However, I am very upset at this song specifically. They choose to publicly humiliate this one person to Ocala, FL and to everyone who knows this situation. Its a public "Fuck You" to this person... which is against what they claim to stand for. This makes me feel like they are full of shit.

so you're saying they should stick to "never turn my back on my friends" when those friends betray them? ok yea next time your friends betray you, be sure to stay true to that saying, see where it gets you

I agree with the two comments above me.
AceIsGnarly:
You're right, publicly humiliating someone isn't right, period, I don't care how you look at it or what the person did.
But at the same time, they never turned their back on their friends. someone did something to lose that friendship, hence the public humiliation.
But I would, however, like to know what the hell happened.
so if anyone is interested in sharing this with me, it would be nice.

I'd definately be pissed if someone wrote this about me. BUT if you were betrayed (as i know a lot of us have been) sometimes you just have to let a friend go. they are simply not worth your friendship.
Having that said, artists write most lyrics based on the events in their life and what they are feeling. its really hard to pull some random subject out your ass and write about something you have no experience with. im sure some of us here write lyrics and/or music...and raise your hand if you've ever written about a situation, good or bad, in your life. they have every right to write about this subject...and it just so turns out it ended up on the record. so...basically what you're saying is any artist that writes a song publicly about a bad thing that happenned in there life that involved someone else is wrong for doing so.

ok, im going to stop my rant. i think i made my point.

Wow, AceIsGnarly big hot shot. Lol. I'm from Coral Springs, FL, and just because your from Ocala doesn't mean you know EVERYTHING about ADTR. Hell, if that was possible then I'd know everything about A New Found Glory. and I agree Elysia, the lyrics are pretty self explainatory.

rofl...
AceIsGnarly
thinks he has higher powers of understanding and knowledge of the bands songs just because of where he's from.
Oh snap, that must mean I know exactly what the guys in 3oh!3 were smoking when they wrote their stuff.
lol.
God, dude..
for real.
It's music, let it be music, and stop playing so much into it.

well, AceIsGnarly, at least ADTR wrote a song about it instead of beating the shit out of that specific person, or even worse, killing them. you make it sound so bad, but people write songs about other people all the time, so chill your shit. plus, they dont even say the person's name. and really, the only people who will know its about a specific are apparently only people from Ocala, which isnt everyone who listens to ADTR. plus, whatever that person did to them inspired a kick ass song.
and i agree with speech geek 101
just cause your from Ocala doesnt mean you know everything about ADTR. i'm from phoenix, but i dont know what particular girl inspired The Maine to write "your as weak as the hearts you break, your as fake as the moans you make" in their song The Way We Talk.

AceIsGnarly, i dont believe that you know all this stuff about ADTR just cause you live in Ocala, but what is funny that i have no comparison about a band that came out of my town that i should know all about XD. Maryland and Delaware are shit, barely anything good comes out of here.
