ok here's a new idea, besides the hey chirs theory:
maybe this is pete wentz telling the media and everybody to get the heck out of his life.
when he says "and I want these words to make it right but it's the wong that make the words come to life" and then later the "put your finger back to the key" he's talking about how he knows that gossip magazines want to tell the truth but lies are more interesting and sell so they type what they believe isn't true. the chorus is basically saying that even if he does something that only lasted one night, the media is forcing him to remember it even if he doesn't want to. the line from closer is a reference to one of the biggest rumors about him, which has been said a thousand times and I don't need to say again. in the second verse, when he says that "been looking forward to the future but my eyesight is going bad" he's taking on the persona of the media, who try to predict and follow everything he does but can't see the truth. then, in the third verse, he talks about the public's reactions: how they say he's sold out, and how they believe the media's gossip about his alleged one night stands with "page six lovers," famous tabloid party girls. when he says "get me out of my mind get you out of these clothes/ I'm just a liner from getting you into the mood" he's mocking the way people say that he thinks.
that's my opinion, at least.

the chris thing really makes sense...but i kinda hate the song i like most of their new album but this songs really poppy and overly catchy. Is it just me or is Pete really full of himself lately? Its kind of getting annoying. why is he dating ashlee simpson

this song is very cool. totally different to any other fall out boy stuff. Its kind of boy-bandish though.
I only think in the form of crunching numbers in hotel rooms collecting Page Six lovers is relateing to the "page six" girls in london newspapers.
I dont really get the whole no vowels in the title though...bit weird. must relate to an old song title.

I agree with the Chris theory, especially as it does seem to fit so well, but I reckon there are a host of other meanings as well.
My OWN meaning [not what the song is actually about.. but what I like yo draw from it] is along the lines of a break up where the girl has moved on to another guy, and they're singing to the first guy the words from the girl's mouth, and they're kind of vindictive and trying to say she never really liked the relationship anyway: "thanks for the memories, even though they weren't so great" and "he tastes like you, only sweeter".

Just an interpretation of certain parts of the song :)
It's crazily catchy as well.

When I first heard this song I heard "...collecting patients' lovers"
haha.
I actually think I like the patients' line more.

I always had this inkling it was about Hey Chris. Of course, it could easily be about media interference in Pete's life; always being expected to act a certain way. It could be about both, of course.

The video seems to support the media interference idea- the pressure to conform to the norm- of course, the video itself could be one massive twist of the nature, the media wants a song about how the media sucks- not a song about Hey Chris.

Or none of my theories could be correct.

See, a lot of parts key in with Hey Chris- but "collecting Page Six lovers-" people are going bonanzas with Pete and supposed bad-girl relationships.

And yes, Fallen Leaves, you might use vowels, but I think the idea is "slutty exes/ex-best friends who have no time for the likes of you" don't. Personally, I like the title.

And siknutz, who said he was dating Ashlee Simpson? This song could very well be a cry out against how everyone thinks he is. :|

for the record i dont like fob but a friend reffered me to this song, and ive spotted a couple patterns you could say, havent herd the song but, the text here points to a couple refrences to some good music

Oh my god it all makes sense now!! I was reading the questions that people can post on Fall Out Boy's website and then pete replies to them. someone was going on about how the line "he tastes like you only sweeter" was so screwed up b/c they're guys, unless they were talking about a girl saying it to them, like it's in quotes. so anyways, petes answer was: watch the movie 'closer'. that's even more scrwed up." so i get on here and someone says that line is from the movie 'closer.' im glad i get it now. and i love this song
