Hum Hallelujah Lyrics
It's all a game of this or that
Now verses then Better off against worse for wear And you're someone Who knows someone Who knows someone I once knew And I just want to be a part of this The road outside my house Is paved with good intentions Hired a construction crew 'Cause it's hell on the engine And you are the dreamer And we are the dream I could write it better Than you ever felt it So hum hallelujah Just off the key of reason I thought I loved you It was just how you looked in the light A teenage vow in a parking lot "Til tonight do us part" I sing the blues And swallow them too My words are my faith to hell With a good name A remix of your guts, Your insides x-rayed And one day we'll get nostalgic for disaster We're a bull, your ears are just a china shop I love you in the same way There's a chapel in a hospital One foot in your bedroom And one foot out the door Sometimes we take chances Sometimes we take pills I could write it better Than you ever felt it So hum hallelujah Just off the key of reason I thought I loved you It was just how you looked in the light A teenage vow in a parking lot "Til tonight do us part" I sing the blues And swallow them too Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelu Hallelujah (Hum Hallelujah), Hallelujah (Hum Hallelujah) Hallelujah (Hum Hallelujah), Hallelu (Hum Hallelujah) A teenage vow in a parking lot "Til tonight do us part" I sing the blues And swallow them too So Hum hallelujah Just off the key of reason I thought I loved you It was just how you looked in the light A teenage vow in a parking lot "Til tonight do us part" Vow in a parking lot Till tonight do us part Teenage vow in a parking lot "Til tonight do us part" I sing the blues And swallow them too

if you took the time to truly listen to some of fall out boy's music besides what is on the radio, you would like it.
you can't judge them by their singles.
singles are usually very mainstream sounding and poppy to attract all types of listeners, and that applies to any band out there.
don't criticize a band that you've never taken the time to fully listen to.

take it easy, man. i just thought, you know, i can say my own opinion because i have human rights, but i guess i was wrong. i get told to 'stfu' and yes i know what that means.
why would i waste my money on buying a fob album? honestly, i'd rather spend money on good artists with good albums. when an artist releases a single - a good artist, anyways - they wouldn't be thinking of how it sounded so it can attract new fans/costumers, they'll pick a song they love and want more people to hear. they pick ones that mean a lot to them. if all their good songs aren't pop, then why don't they release the good songs? if they are a good band, which i doubt, then they'd pick songs they like a lot. songs that mean a lot to them and they like. if they are truly a punk band, they'd like their punkier songs. but the songs they select as singles have a pop vibe.
burn. :)...
AGREED. Pop rock. and overplayed.
hairy balls indeed!

this is pointless to argue.
i love them.
you hate them.
end of story.
but i do have to ask...
what is the crime of being pop punk or pop rock?
some people prefer lighter music sometimes.
why do people have to make it such an insult to be called pop punk or pop rock?
it's just a type of music!
why do people have to criticize and call them "pop crap" or whatever?
i don't go on lyric pages of bands i'm not fond of and spout off and insult it for no reason.
why does everyone have to do that?
i'm not even speaking specifically of fallen leaves or any of the other people who left negative comments on this song.
everyone does it on sogmeanings!
what's the deal?

It's all a game of this or that
Now verses then
Better off against worse for wear
[They have a lot of choices to make in the music industry. One thing could break them, one thing could make them. The 'better off' would make their music rocket or 'worse for wear' they could be still 5 tired boys in a broken van.]
And you're someone
Who knows someone
Who knows someone I once knew
And I just want to be a part of this
[i think this may be talking to old fall out boy fans, saying how they 'used to know him' and how he used to be and he just wants to be the old pete again.]
The road outside my house
Is paved with good intentions
Hired a construction crew
'Cause it's hell on the engine
[he's saying that everything he does may have good intentions but it ends up all wrong, hence the construscion crew he wants to 'smooth everything out']
And you are the dreamer
And we are the dream
I could write it better
Than you ever felt it
[Peter realizing that his lyrics have really helped people through really hard times and they have always dreamt of feeling like they're not alone and are understood. He's saying that he can put into words what others have felt.]
So hum hallelujah
Just off the key of reason
I thought I loved you
It was just how you looked in the light
[Hum Hallelujah was the song Peter was listening to when he OD'd 2 years ago. He's saying that he knows over dosing was 'just out of reason' but he did it anyways. He thought he loved the pills but at the time they seemed like the only answer.]
A teenage vow in a parking lot
"Til tonight do us part"
I sing the blues
And swallow them too
[I think he said once he had just bought a copy of TTTYG from Best Buy so maybe, he was saying good bye to the boys. He OD'd in a Best buy parking lot. swallow the blues refers to swallowing pills]
My words are my faith to hell
With a good name
A remix of your guts,
Your insides x-rayed
And one day we'll get nostalgic for disaster
We're a bull, your ears are just a china shop
[he's saying that some of the stuff he sings may send himto hell or has raised hell. the guts & insides refers to seeing how people really truly are inside. one day, maybe they wont care if FOB goes to hell. Bull/china shop refers to them wrecking havok and making attention i think.]
I love you in the same way
There's a chapel in a hospital
One foot in your bedroom
And one foot out the door
Sometimes we take chances
Sometimes we take pills
I could write it better
Than you ever felt it
[I do not know that the chapel thing means but the pills/chances is pretty obvious. They took a big chance by signing to a major lable & b/c of it, Pete took pills.]

It's all a game of this or that
Now versus then
(even when comparing everything in life, now and in the past, life is like a joke, its a bit sad though, like nothing we do means much anyways, all relationships are like just for pleaure and laughs)
And you're someone
Who knows someone
Who knows someone I once knew
And I just want to be a part of this
(at first i though this was about how they are tired because people say they get along with them just because they know someone who has perhaps seen them once at a party or sth like that, but the last line like brings them back to those memories of small concerts and how the word got out and people came up to them after the concerts and so and they felt happy, and that everything is so controversial, they love the feeling of having fans or just people who like their music, but all this is so hard, with so many people claiming to know them and gossip and stuff about them)
The road outside my house
Is paved with good intentions
Hired a construction crew
'Cause it's hell on the engine
(he has tried to surround himself with good things and has intended to do evertything correctly, but he couldn't and it was like hell for him trying to do always the right thing and he needed help to get his life back in order)
And you are the dreamer
And we are the dream
(its a bit stuck up but they tell you it in the face that all the fans are just dreamers, and they - well they are the dream, just as easy as its said, and they will reamin as that, and fans shouls push aside the thought ever marrying with any of them or stuff like that cos thats just a dream, noone knows how they are for real, little kids are just in love with the picture they are imagining in their head and which has no connection to the reality )
I could write it better
Than you ever felt it
(things in words aren't always the same as in real life, someone good with his words can describe a thing better the you could possibly ever feel it, to me this and the dreamer part is like mocking the fans a bit, like you can dream all you want, but you are hooked, and we know it,and like that they can make lyrics that amaze fans, they might seem real, and the fans will never reach to that level)
I love you in the same way
There's a chapel in a hospital
One foot in your bedroom
And one foot out the door
(i never took the song as a whole story, more like situations put together - different stages in life: teen love, old love:D, and this was like for me at least that the person you love is about to die, she is like with just one foot in this world:D but at least there is a chapel and we can get married, on the contrary to the parking lot scene, where its just till "tonight do us part" and like different types of love)
Sometimes we take chances
Sometimes we take pills
(this was a sex scene for me, like sometimes we take the risk, sometime 1. you take pills(the girl) 2. the SOS pill in the morning, but like the beginning of the song, it symbolises more – like his whole life is risking stupidly)
So hum hallelujah
Just off the key of reason
(its mixed and a bit confusing, but like you don’t have to be religious to take a time and think about what you’ve done, like they don’t have to be sins, but you should take time for yourself, thats why its hallelujah and off the key of reason, it doesn’t matter what you hum, as long as you have sth to look up to, and like guide you, or even just a good song the help you move on and get you going)
I thought I loved you
It was just how you looked in the light
(another phase in life, i thought i loved you, but i was stupid, and i didn't know you for real, it was the crush, friends, everything i made on first impression, not just the looks, like just a beautful girl, but the way i looked at you - love is blind)
Its a great song because each person relates to it differently, as we all have different lives and have been through different things...

Is paved with good intentions"
i think that's a play on a saying as in "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."
so maybe the phrase "One foot in your bedroom
And one foot out the door" could have something with being stuck between to things condiming them to hell.
"And one day we'll get nostalgic for disaster
We're a bull, your ears are just a china shop"
Is a pun off of FUTCT.
other then that its about Pete's ODing.

Well, take a look "The Take Over, The Break's Over" (the music video). they're trying to say that everyone changes and sometimes it might be a good thing. Just give them a chance. Oh and also read "Who Moved My Cheese"? CHANGE CAN BE A GOOD THING is what I'm trying to say...
oh and to ahmais on page 4, it IS "hell on the engine" check the lyric book! no one seems to do that!

A teenage boy and girl are in a parking lot and end up sleeping together,
(a teenage vow in a parking lot)
but they dont know each other (youre just someone who knows someone, who knows someone i once knew)
They think they will never see each other again, but the girl gets pregnant ,, the line says "sometimes we take chances, sometimes we take pills" , Thats like they didnt use a condom and she wasnt on 'the pill' so she took a chance , and it went wrong.
Then the boy is deciding wether to stay with her or go
(one foot in your bedroom and one foot in your door)
Thats just my opinion though Lol...
The Song Is Awesome.

is it genuinely true that he was listening to 'hallelujah' when he took the pills? i'm not sure if this is a crass or selfish thing to say- i hope not- but if so, it's going to be hard to look at it the same way again.

'I love you in the same way there's a chapel in a hospital
One foot in your bedroom and one foot out the door'
If you didn't get what that was, it was Pete being witty. As in, when you're lying there dying in a hospital you've got one foot in your bedroom and one foot out the door (ie, in the next world). You're halfway between the worlds of the living and the dead. Equally he's saying that as a lover, he's in her bed when he wants to be, but he's always ready to run off.
'A teenage vow in a parking lot
"'Til tonight do us part"'
That's a reference to the marriage vow 'Til death do us part. There could be a duality thing, where it sounds like he's talking about a one night stand but he's actually talking about the fact that he's not planning on living beyond tonight.
