Came home in the middle of the night
Father says what you're gonna do with your life
Well daddy dear you're still number one
Oh girls they want to have fun
Oh girls they
The phone rings in the middle of the night
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Well mother dear we're not the fortunate ones
All girls they want to have fun
Oh girls they
That's all they really want
Those girls they want to have fun
Some boys take a beautiful girl
Only to hide her away from the rest of the world
Not me, I want to be the one in the sun
Girls they want to have fun
Oh girls they
That's all they really want
Those girls they wanna have fun
Father says what you're gonna do with your life
Well daddy dear you're still number one
Oh girls they want to have fun
Oh girls they
The phone rings in the middle of the night
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Well mother dear we're not the fortunate ones
All girls they want to have fun
Oh girls they
That's all they really want
Those girls they want to have fun
Some boys take a beautiful girl
Only to hide her away from the rest of the world
Not me, I want to be the one in the sun
Girls they want to have fun
Oh girls they
That's all they really want
Those girls they wanna have fun

the cyndi lauper version seems like the girl is so oblivios , but in this version, i see it as:
she's a girl lost and is caught up in partying and boys, and her parents see her spiraling downward but she tries to reassure them that she's fine and that she has her priorities straight meanwhile she doesnt know how to help herself, all she knows is as long as shes having "fun" she's happy, but doesnt realize the reprecussions of her 'fun' and doesnt want any type of commitment to boys because they just tie her down, she's too free spirited
Amazing voice & love the piano.
To me, he chose to cover this song to sing more from a guy's prospective. The girl's version is just more carefree and fun. Laswell's version is so beautiful. I think he is saying he is the type of guy that could be perfect for this girl. He doesn't want her to be locked up in the house and controlled. He wants to "be the one in the sun" right there with her having fun.
