Came home in the middle of the night
my father says what you gonna do with your life
Well, daddy dear you're still number one
Oh, girls they wanna have fun

oh, girls they..

The phone rings in the middle of the night
My mothers says when you gonna live your life right?
Well, mother dear, we're not the fortunate ones.
Oh, girls they wanna have fun.

Oh, girls they..
Thats all they really want
Those girls they wanna have fun.

Some boys take a beautiful girl.
Only hide her away from the rest of the world
Well, not me I wanna be the one in the sun.
Girls they wanna have fun.

Oh, girls they
thats all they really want
those girls they wanna have fun.

I love this version of the song. I first heard it on MTV's The Hills. Its so different from the original track that I didn't even recognize it.

To me, he chose to cover this song to sing more from a guy's prospective. The girl's version is just more carefree and fun. Laswell's version is so beautiful. I think he is saying he is the type of guy that could be perfect for this girl. He doesn't want her to be locked up in the house and controlled. He wants to "be the one in the sun" right there with her having fun.

Personally I think this is so much more pondering and poignant. It was genius to do this from a guy's perspective...it's so beautiful. You can almost see this guy talking to his parents, see him with his girl. The last chord gets me every time. "Some boys take a beautiful girl and hide her away from the rest of the world..."

I'm in looove with this song and the way he covers it,! the cyndi lauper version seems like the girl is so oblivios , but in this version, i see it as: she's a girl lost and is caught up in partying and boys, and her parents see her spiraling downward but she tries to reassure them that she's fine and that she has her priorities straight meanwhile she doesnt know how to help herself, all she knows is as long as shes having "fun" she's happy, but doesnt realize the reprecussions of her 'fun' and doesnt want any type of commitment to boys because they just tie her down, she's too free spirited

I absolutely love this cover. I hate the original but Greg's cover of it is one of my favorite songs. He just adds a whole new perspective to the song. Cyndi Lauper makes the song seem carefree and living-in-the-moment, but Greg's spin is serious and sad, but in a completely wonderful way.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
