I wish that we could talk about it
But there, that's the problem
With someone new I couldn't start it
Too late, for beginnings
The little things that made me nervous
Are gone, in a moment
I miss the way we used to argue
Locked, in your basement

I wake up and the phone is ringing
Surprised, as it's early
And that should be the perfect warning
That something's a problem
To tell the truth I saw it coming
The way you were breathing
But nothing can prepare you for it
The voice on the other end

The worst is all the lovely weather
I'm stunned, it's not raining
The coffee isn't even bitter
Because, what's the difference?
There's all the work that needs to be done
It's late, for revision
There's all the time and all the planning
And songs, to be finished

And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
'Til the day it stops

And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
'Til the day it stops

And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
And it keeps coming
'Til the day it stops

I wish that we could talk about it
But there, that's the problem
With someone new I could have started
Too late for beginnings
You're smaller than my wife imagined
Surprised, you were human
There shouldn't be this radio silence
But what are the options?

When someone great is gone
When someone great is gone
When someone great is gone
When someone great is gone

When someone great is gone
When someone great is gone
When someone great is gone
When someone great is gone

We're safe, for the moment
Saved for the moment

    Song Meaning

I always interpreted this song being about an affair. The ride of emotions when you find someone cool new and exciting - all perish in a moment when you get caught. You’re safe for the moment once your partner forgives you. But, only for the moment. And the rollercoasrer keeps going until the day one dies.

Some lyrics which brought me to this conclusion are as follows:

    1) I wish we could talk about it - but that’s the problem (He no longer can speak to the mistress)

    2) With someone new I could have started - it’s late for revision (He is settled with his wife - and it’s late he’s too old to entirely start over with someone else)

    3) You’re smaller than my wife imagined - surprise that you’re human (His wife’s mental flux over the situation - the shock to find the mistress is real. Perhaps all the wife’s former worries that something is off were right)

    4) The worst is all the lovely weather - I’m surprised it’s not raining (The darkness of being found out - and with a glimpse of relief that the secret is over)

    5) I miss the way we used to argue locked in the basement (Hiding the relationship - secret places safe for them to be)

    6) There shouldn’t be this ray of silence - but what are the options (Someone you care for leaves and you can’t call them to see how they are - because, they were never meant to be here with you forever.

    7) When someone great is gone you’re safe for the moment (Getting out of the affair, unscathed, until the next one)

I could be wrong tho :)

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
