really good first track, hope the rest of the album is of a high quality!
the meaning seems pretty obvious, he is obsessed by this 'ruby' person. it may be a metaphor or something maybe? thats the only complication i can see

well there was an awful lot of novelty songs on the last album so i guess there is a possibility this song is actually about a curry.

(think cockney rhyming slang)
also if you realli look at the lyrics you can see sum lines that can b used as metaphors to back up my theory

however in all seriousness gr8 song
i particularly like the bridge:

Ruby! awesome song... I believe it's about this guy wanting to date a girl he really likes but he is sensing she doesn't really like him, just probably having him as a second option, and it's killing the guy because he is really hung up on this Ruby character...

usually im not really into Kaiser Chiefs but this song is catchy and once you have heard it a couple of times it starts to sound good.

Not really a big mystery what it's about; a guy who is in love with a girl called Ruby(Finding out what you’re called and repeating your name)
she obviously isnt interested, and he is frustrated;

After, in my opinion, a bloody awful first album i thought this song would be as bland and boring as the majority of the songs on employment. How wrong was I! An absolutly brilliant song which gets in your head and refuses to budge. What an amazing comeback!

to me this song means that the guy is in love with a girl he doesn't know nor ever talked to. He's getting possitive 'vibes' of this girl (eye contact etc.) but he's not for sure if it's even directed at him. this doubt and the lack of balls to make a conversation is making him a bit crazy.

I could be terribly wrong but this is what's happening with me at the moment so i like to think this is where's the song is about.

This song is completely about the last five or so months of my life. There was this girl I was incredibly interested in and by all accounts so was she. It turns out she was just stringing me along, playing with my head, and using me.

It hurt even more because she was also one of my best friends (or so I thought) so it was a double wammy. I think the line "Know what your doing, doing to me" exemplifies just how much she was fucking with that person's head.

So that's what I feel this song is portraying at least to me.

yeah...the song is pretty catchy and its great. the message is pretty simple, about a girl who doesn't care about a guy/relationship anymore. i think the video shows that nicely, with the band singing about the girl/the problem, meanwhile everyone else (and the girl) just continues life around them...

just a note tho...why does the board seem to fill up with random messages of about "oh, this is about me and how i'm sad b/c some guy/girl doesn't like me"...sigh, cry my a river... and thanks for peopel like lyricalharmony who contribute so much to songMEANINGS.net by posting about how much they love a song...good grief...

well i guess its about this guy saw this ruby person, and becomes totally obsessed by her (verse 1)
and the second verse: nothing else matters and he wants to know who she is (finding our what youre called, and repeating your name)
and she doesnt notice him at all (chorus)
but im not sure what the 3rd verse is though

it is so fun...
but i also feel related to it... the part of
"could it be.. that you're joking on me.." that's exactly how i felt in the past months... and..apparently he was joking with me...so i find this song relieving and the rythm makes me feel so much better about the situation =) i love them

This is a very catchy song... I also like the backround vocals ah ah ah ah ahhhhhhhhh...! Drummers are so very cute when they sing. Anyways, I was listening to this and (forgive if I'm wrong, I learned this in third grade) I thought: hmmm... a ruby is a diamond, and a diamond is the hardest mineral.. rock... thing that you can have. Could it be could it be? jk! I was just thinking that our Ruby girl has a very hard personality, yet she is shiny and very attractive... she certainly didn't treat this guy fairly anyway.

I've got 2 theories here, 1 he could of just met her (Ruby), he doesnt know anything about her, but he wants to/ or is doing her. 2 I think he's just met her there getting know each other and he's totally become obssessed with her. (Im new to this) lol
