Lyrics for Wet and Rusting as interpreted by girlbeast

Wet and Rusting Lyrics
I made you a present, you'll never expect it
And when you unravel the secret will travel
It's hard to take risks with a pessimist
I hope that this shaking will help us awaken
Separated by skin 'til we let ourselves in
It's hard to take risks with a pessimist
It's hard to take risks
I hope one will burn me, I know you'll desert me
(This is the closest I've come to touching you the way I want)
The hope can be painful, I'll try to be faithful
(It's hard to take risks)

It has a very melancholy sound to it, but it's not sad or depressing or anything. I have nothing insightful to say, I just love this album.

oh, man.

i noticed that i had this album on the computer in my office, so i came home and decided to listen to it. it perfectly characterizes my current situation. the mood of the song and all! so beautiful!

now, if i put it on a mix for her, hopefully she won't take it too hard that she's a pessimist and it's hard for me to take risks.

sorry to turn this site into my own personal blog. :o

I just adore it when the piano kicks in... I want to fill the bathtub to brimming, put this on LOUD and sink under the water, blowing bubbles and staring at the ceiling through the waves. Menomena... yum!

You're right though, this is so sexy. I think it's the speed, fast piano, slow rhythm, and the lyrics are awesome too. I didn't even realize it until I came here.

well if that's sexy to you, then i bet you get wood listening to coldplay....

but yeah, great song. definitely a little more to it than sex. Kind of holding onto a relationship with someone you want to be with, but isn't right for you? Holding onto the hope that they will change, perhaps a sunnier attitude? Only the guys that wrote it know for sure...sly dogs...

just a guess...

Great song. It is definitely intimate, but by no means sexual (at least i see no evidence for it).

Based on the lyrics and the video and the context within the other songs, I think this is about diving in and taking action, of making strides, of taking risks. Taking risks requires faith, the faith to act even in the face of death (as the video demonstrates).

search youtube for the unofficial video posted on there.
i think it's cooler than the official music video.
the real one seems a little disorganized to me, though i like where they ride on the trampolines.

it's hard to take risks.

he's inlove with a difficult person
she never make up their mind;
they're both ambivalent.
"its hard to take risks, with a pessimist", but
it's worth it. even if in the end he gets burned.
he always gives in, anyways. heknowsbetter.
"I hope that this shaking will help us awaken"
maybe this time we'll realize it's wrong,
maybe this time we'll learn
and use that knowledge
for our own benefit.
"I hope one will burn me, I know you’ll desert me"
She'll change her mind about him, and he knows it,
he likes her to the extent where he'd rather
those few times of happiness even if it means
there will be many times of depression.
but he couldn't leave, even though he know better.
"The hope can be painful, I’ll try to be faithful"
self explanitory.

this song is good
but its my real life experience.
always relinquishing,
never ends.

I think this song is more of a downer than everyone thinks...Not just the melodies, but knowing that in the end you are going to be hurt...it just isn't pleasant.

"Separated by skin ‘til we let ourselves in"
I hear this song saying that humans remain foreign and distant from one another unless they choose to be intimate. However, that choice involves making oneself vulnerable. It requires having faith in the people you are letting in; trusting that they won't judge, hurt or scar you. When the lead singer comments, "it's hard to take risks with a pessimist," he is explaining that it is hard to achieve intimacy with his partner because she/(he, if gay) is too cynical to have complete faith in him. He may also be commenting on the fear he feels when trying to let her in. Knowing that she is a pessimist, he knows that she/he is quick to judge things negatively, including whatever parts of himself that he shows her/(him).

First of all, I highly recommend that anyone who likes this song listen to the cover called "LOAF: A Deli Tea Version" AND a remix called "E.R. Don Remix" I found them in torrents... They are each stellar, in absolutely divergent ways, and well, they're both beautiful. If you can't find it, send me a PM or something and I'll send you the file.

The drummer is amazing on this track.

I heard the lyric as "Separated by skin TINT" for a long time, but either way, I think that the guitar sigh after that line is pure sex. I also think that this song is yearning for the best kind of sex, the kind where you're not separate anymore. The violence of the the staccato drumming also wonderful.

I'd say the most earnest line in the song is the “This is the closest I'll come to touching you, the way I want” and in my experience I have always lived that line in the sense of being with girls that are beautiful, sweet, that are sincere in their love, but that have hang-ups with irrationality and that are, in a word, unreasonable. This can take the form of (religious) faith, or any kind of mysticism, because once faith enters a conversation about what people believe is true, there's no more conversation. You know you're fighting a losing battle if someone believes the things they do just by fiat. You can still love them, and care for them greatly, but “This is the closest I'll come to touching you, the way I want.” ...until you get over your religious/collectivist memes. I'm not a fan of faith, it's not a virtue.

I like to think the “faith” mentioned in the ending is faith in your own self, your HOPE that people will come to reason.
